Becoming a mother was one of the most difficult transitions I’ve faced in my life.

Before having kids, I was what one might call a workaholic. I avoided dealing with my emotions and feelings by keeping extremely busy, working long hours, and overcommitting socially.

Sound familiar?

But after having my first baby and suffering from postpartum anxiety and depression, I truly had to rethink everything while working through my depression. I started going to therapy and started to understand my thoughts and how I relate to them.

Through that experience, I realized that a lot of my suffering as a new mother was coming from inside my own head. My inner mean mom was telling me I was not enough, on loop, all day long.

My guest today, Katherine Wintsch, is the founder and CEO of The Mom Complex and is dedicated to making the lives of mothers easier. She recently wrote a book about that negative inner conversation that plagues mothers called, Slay Like A Mother, combining 10+ years of groundbreaking research on motherhood with her own personal journey.

Listen to the full episode to hear:

  • How Katherine learned to love herself—and how it transformed her life
  • Why it’s essential for women to acknowledge the terrible things they say to themselves—and how to stop it so they aren’t running your life
  • Why more is not better and how you can learn to be happy with what you have right now
  • How to learn to love and protect yourself so you’re not giving away every waking hour to every other human being in your life
