Vasu Sojitra is a professional adaptive athlete, Disability Access Strategist and advocate for inclusivity. Vasu was born in Connecticut and his leg was amputated at 9 months old from a blood infection. After the hospital treatment his family decided to move back to India to be around family. Throughout that time he was constantly over growing his prosthetic leg and breaking it so they decided to move back to the US to have access to medical equipment.
Growing up Vasu started playing soccer and picked up skateboarding and skiing at 10. He saw an adaptive skier using outriggers and he convinced his parents to help him buy those. Vasu went on to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Vermont and got into backcountry skiing. With the help of some friends they engineered rigging equipment to help him excel in mountain sports. Vasu is also on the US adaptive soccer team, skateboards, trail runs, bikes. He's climbed Grand Teton, done the first adaptive ski descent of Denali and is the first adaptive athlete for The North Face.
Vasu continues to challenge the biases that go with being a Disable person of color through his work as a founding member of The Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E Initiative cofounding Inclusive Outdoors Project.
