Manage episode 466160881 series 3585096
At the heart of the Government’s agenda for the growth and competitiveness of the UK economy and financial services as a sector critical to these ambitions, is a renewed focus on skills, increasing the talent pool and workforce development. It’s a fast-moving landscape and this series aims to bring developments to members’ attention to help them navigate the changes that will inevitably come which may have a significant impact on how they approach their own development or that of others.
“Skills Conversations” is a podcast series designed to enlighten members of the Chartered Banker Institute about the evolving landscape of skills in financial services. This series, amongst other things, will delve into the key role apprenticeships play in building knowledge, skills, behaviours and a pipeline of talent in financial services, potential solutions to the development of a new apprenticeships system, and the challenges that lie ahead.
Many people have a rather narrow view of apprenticeships, associating them more with trades rather than with financial services. This series will look under the bonnet and demonstrate that they play a key talent development route for some new entrants and for reskilling the existing workforce. It aims to foster professional development by providing insights into the work of Skills England, professional bodies, employers and other associated training providers. The series also encourages active engagement, inviting listeners to contribute their ideas and perspectives to help better inform the policy discussion around apprenticeships and skills more generally.
Host(s): Mark Roberts, Head of Learning Partnerships, Chartered Banker Institute. Mark is one of the UK’s thought leaders around apprenticeships in financial services (See Annex A).
Guest(s) Luke Lyons, Process Improvement Manager at Lloyds Banking Group and Level 7 finance apprentice.
