In this unique podcast episode, we not only get to learn about Dr. Rick Eckstein's background, but we take a deep dive into the topics of youth sports, mental health, and female student-athletes. Dr. Eckstein is co-producing a public television series, Beyond Stigma: Mental Health In Women's College Sports.
Dr. Eckstein is the author of How College Athletics Are Hurting Girls' Sports: The Pay-To-Play Pipeline. He is an expert on youth sports commercialization, college athlete recruitment and admissions, rising costs of higher education, intercollegiate athletics spending, and the unintended consequences of Title IX. In addition, he has 15 years of experience coaching youth sports.
Dr. Eckstein is a co-author of Public Dollars, Private Stadiums: The Battle Over Building Sports Stadiums. He is one of the nation's leading authorities on publicly financed sports stadiums and arenas. In addition, he was a featured contributor to the 2023 HBO Real Sports story on college athlete admissions advantages.
Dr. Eckstein is regularly cited in national and international media outlets. Most recently, Dr. Eckstein was elected to The Drake Group Board of Directors. He has received numerous teaching and research awards such as the Gallen University Service Award and the Arts & Sciences Teaching Award to name a few.
