Just as flowers bloom under sunlight, children flourish with genuine, thoughtful praise. But not all praise carries the same weight—while a simple "good job" might brighten the moment, specific recognition of character and effort plants deeper roots of confidence and self-awareness.
Notice and name the qualities that shine in your child: their persistence when tackling a difficult puzzle, their kindness in sharing with a sibling, their courage in trying something new. When we praise specific character traits—"I saw how patient you were helping your little sister" or "You showed real integrity by telling the truth even though it was hard"—we help our children recognize and value their own strengths.
