With the exciting buzz around NASA's announcement of the Artemis II crew I wanted to share an interview I did with Astronaut Chris Cassidy a few months ago when the Artemis I mission was first announced.
Capt. Chris Cassidy is a retired Navy SEAL and NASA Astronaut. Chris started his military career attending the Naval Academy and after graduation was selected to the Navy Special Warfare Training School B.U.D.s (Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL Training). Once completing training, Chris was a SEAL Officer assigned to Special Delivery Vehicle Team 2, where he would accumulate over 200 hours underwater. Capt. Cassidy also served two tours in Afghanistan earning two Bronze Stars with Valor and a Presidential Unit Citation. He also served tours in the Mediterranean, and was a Platoon Commander with SEAL Team 3.
In 2004 Chris applied to and was accepted to NASA's Astronaut program making him one of two Navy SEALs to earn that distinction. During his 17 years with NASA, Chris spent 377 days in space and accumulated 60 hrs outside the International Space Station on multiple space walks. Chris was eventually named NASA's Chief Astronaut.
Currently Chris serves as President and CEO of the Medal of Honor Foundation leading a team in the process of building an iconic Museum, Leadership Institute and Monument to honor the recipients of our nations highest military honor, the Medal of Honor.
