Transportation and logistics companies have benefited from the widespread changes brought about by the pandemic. The shift to e-commerce over the past two years might have slowed down as health restrictions were lifted, but there is no turning back online ordering. Look no further than your average residential street and the number of trucks doing deliveries. Also, the shift to onshoring of manufacturing means that raw materials are being shipped more frequently by road, water and air. Eastern Ontario is already demonstrating that it's poised to become a transportation and logistics hub thanks to several advantages. With Hwy. 401 ‒ Canada’s busiest highway ‒ the shipping corridor of the St. Lawrence Seaway, the deep water port at Johnstown, air links and proximity to the U.S. border, more large warehouses are being erected and associated transportation companies are flourishing. These new companies are increasingly sophisticated, harnessing modern technology like robotics and sensors to track inventory and shipping.
