Self-care has become quite a buzz word these days and we are often led to believe that self-care can cure burn out, depression, anxiety, and other effects of living in a society built on imperialism. The narrative suggests that these issues can be easily solved by finding the perfect self-care routine or just setting better boundaries (another form of "self-care"). However, this oversimplifies the root causes of such problems and shifts the blame onto individuals rather than addressing systemic issues. Jill and Linda are discussing the narratives we often hear surrounding self-care in this episode and talk about:

  • That there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to the meaning of self-care.
  • Our interpretations and perspectives of self-care.
  • Blaming ourselves when self-care gets mucked up and how we compare ourselves to others.
  • Should we be putting the onus for change entirely on us?
  • Switching something out for self-care.

We are excited that the narrative of self-care has expanded and will continue to have conversations surrounding self-care and what it looks like for us.
