Interview With Steve Kennelly, Associate Director of Medical Products at Microchip Technology Inc.

As the healthcare industry continues to evolve to meet our current and future health needs, we’re seeing the emergence of an increasing number and variety of smart and connected IoT-enabled medical devices. These are used across various disciplines and medical applications, including clinical, drug delivery, dental, telehealth and home monitoring.

Microchip offers a wide range of products, including high-voltage ultrasound components such as analog switches, transmitters, Field-Effect Transistors (FETs), FET arrays, and FET drivers, as well as arbitrary waveform generators and Transmit/Receive (T/R) switches. In addition, they provide cost-effective, highly integrated microcontrollers (MCUs), microprocessors (MPUs) and secure elements. These components can reduce the cost of ventilator designs by integrating functions such as analog signal conditioning, top-notch connectivity and peripheral options.

Developing for the medical sector, while also ensuring that devices are safe, reliable and accurate, is no small task. In this podcast episode, we speak to Steve Kennelly, associate director of Medical Products at Microchip, to discuss some of the major issues and barriers in developing technologies for medical applications. He explains what’s involved in meeting the specific design requirements and challenges associated with developing for medical applications and how Microchip is helping to lower design barriers and bring potentially game-changing healthcare solutions to market faster.

Beyond the Microchip

So much of our daily lives are controlled or influenced by electronics. We rely on GPS to direct us, we hit "brew" on our coffee machines for our mornin' cup of Joe, we wave our hands over a sensor to get running water from a faucet, and press a button to open our garage doors.

But do we really know what's going on inside? Are we aware of the universe of technology and calculations going on right under our nose?

Beyond the Microchip takes you inside the world of Embedded Control technologies to understand how the chips and sensors we can't see impact our lives in dramatic ways. They remind us why we have and embrace technology, to enhance the human experience.

Join us each episode as we look at an aspect of our daily lives that shapes what it means to be human and how we can empower the innovation that enhances that experience through Microchip Technology. Subscribe to Beyond the Microchip wherever you get your podcasts.
