Manage episode 456189939 series 3381925
A Moscow court sentenced 27-year-old Adam Shcherbakov to life imprisonment for murdering 90-year-old Roman Legoyda, a high-ranking clergy member of the Russian Orthodox Church who served as Patriarch Kirill’s acting press secretary. Shcherbakov was also convicted of robbery, car theft, and passport forgery.
Roman Legoyda was murdered on December 29, 2023, outside Moscow in the town of Gorki Leninskiye. Investigators say Legoyda’s killer persuaded him under a false pretext to drive him to an ATM and then attacked him, stabbing him at least 24 times. The killer took 100,000 rubles (then worth roughly $1,120) from Legoyda, hid his body in a nearby forest, and stole his car. Police arrested Shcherbakov just a few hours later.
