Have you made a big decision in your career, business, or life in the last two years? Are you about to make another one? What if an important decision is about to arrive at your doorstep? Dang, this pandemic party has made good decision-making an essential life skill. Simply making a nail color decision when you see a color wall of options sharpens your decision-making skills and provides us the practice we need for crossroads decisions.

In today’s episode, I talk with my gal pal Nakita Rowell-Stevens who wrote a clever and entertaining way to heighten awareness of your decision-making and what to do if you make a decision you’re not thrilled with. She literally wrote the book on it called The Decision. But, it’s not the how-to book you might be thinking of. It’s fiction and has more than one ending! Nakita started writing short stories when she was 13 years old and hasn’t stopped. Through a series of her own decisions and adventures, she started her business Word Stylist where she helps clients with blogging, social media marketing content, web copy, email marketing, and book writing. Plus, she keeps writing fictional stories that inspire her heart.

In this episode we talk about:

  • Having the courage to make decisions in the face of fear.
  • Failure as a catalyst for growth.
  • How to make decisions to make the career, life, and business you want.

Here’s a glance:

[4:43] Nakita was surprised about the classy and sophisticated Practical Princess persona but after some thought, she agreed that it and chatty pink were the perfect persona matches.

[8:37] In her book, The Decision, Nakita tells the story in a way that the reader makes their own decisions throughout the book.

[14:33] The crossroads decision Nakita’s book, The Decision, revolves around following your heart or continuing to follow the expectations of others.

[20:27] Nakita’s advice for women in the midst of the decision-making process, don’t let fear freeze you.

[26:56] When making decisions, we must leverage our power of choice and make decisions for ourselves, not for other people.

[32:36] Failures are the building blocks of success.

[34:53] The pandemic brought Nakita some of the biggest transitions in her life.

[40:00] Nakita chose Instinct as the name for her nail color because we have a gut feeling every time we make a choice.

[43:29] In the Flip the Chip segment, Mary highlights Nakita’s advice for making decisions in this brave new world.
