One of our elders, Randy Meeks, concludes our sermon series on the 10 Commandments series looking at Exodus 20:17.
“ . . .desire isn’t evil because it’s strong. Desire becomes evil when it’s fixed on the wrong things.” - James Leithart

Coveting: The person with an inordinate, excessive desire to possess what belongs to someone else. The unhealthy, ungodly lust, or selfish motive to gain something God has not given.

“Covetousness hides in the heart. The Ten Words progress from “Don’t do it” to “Don’t say it” to “Don’t even think about it.” - Jen Wilkin, Ten Words To Live By

Contentment: The mental acceptance and internal satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, and conditions allotted by God without a demand for change in the external circumstances.

“Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”- 1 Timothy 6:6-10

LEARNING CONTENTMENT INCLUDES:

  • The commitment to keep God and Christ Jesus first in my life.
  • Believing it is a skill to be developed and exercised.
  • My trusting God’s will, direction, and timing for everything.
  • Acknowledging God is more than enough.

Life Church exists to glorify God by making disciples who treasure Christ, grow together, and live on mission. Salisbury, NC
