The Greek word ekklesia is usually translated ‘church’. Apparently this goes back to King James who instructed his translators to use ‘church’. Ekklesia is probably better translated as ‘assembly’ or ‘gathering’. Its common meaning at the time the New Testament was written was ‘an assembly of the called-out or elect.’ In this discussion point, Ps Rod explains why the local congregation is so important.
