Our guest on this week's episode is Ross Nykiforuk, whose storied career has seen him tour with the Northern Pikes, perform under his alter ego, "Styles Montreaux", and run a successful studio in Saskatoon, engineering and producing albums for bands like The Sheepdogs, The Northern Pikes, and Punch Drunk Cabaret. We talked about Elvis Costello, studio production, writing for film and television, touring internationally with the Pikes, and why he just might be part of the problem! Ross is witty, dry, and very direct in his assessment of various aspects of the music industry and this was a great chat. Randy and Ross have also worked closely together in the past and share a couple of recollections of past collaborations.

Head over to YouTube and listen to the excellent "It's a Good Life", recorded at Cosmic Pad, featuring keyboards and engineering by Ross: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7fU3sKpQ1I&list=OLAK5uy_neK2beHzROkbCVHlT74GlAVpbsxKzDBJI

Or if you're feeling unseasonably festive, check out the wonderfully swinging "Holiday Soul Soiree" at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6CxDOseXQoG8bWz6GAfSe5frkUG-tTtN

If you've never heard the Elvis Costello classic "Watching the Detectives" that we were talking about, (first of all, where the hell have you been living? Under a rock???), check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPDoXl9ZPs

Ross also told us that Art Bergmann (the Vancouverite punk rock singer-songwriter) was the best act he ever saw live. If you're unfamiliar with Art, we'd suggest checking out his self-titled third album, or head over to the Tube of You: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzkoQ9M9asM
