As reported by The Wall Street Journal, in a rare, large-scale investor fraud prosecution of a technology executive that lasted 15 weeks, the United States government put on trial Silicon Valley’s fake-it-until-you-make-it culture. In Theranos’s case, prosecutors said the head of the startup — Elizabeth Holmes — “hype and hubris went far beyond norms, exposing patients and investors to harm by peddling faulty technology. It was one of the most high-profile white-collar criminal trials in years.” But wait, there’s more. It involves sex, abuse and high profile investors and drug companies and patients that were affected by the actions of a woman in Silicon Valley that began nearly 20 years ago at Stanford University with the intentions of doing good in the world.
