What to do With Cannabis Consumption Areas? | 10.26.21

The idea of consumption areas have been a potential under New Mexico's medical cannabis program for a while, but the state has yet to see a single designated consumption site set up. Part of that has to do with the COVID-19 pandemic, but could it also have something to do with confusion over exactly what constitutes a consumption area, and what the license requirements will be? These are important questions, especially as these unique locations take on a higher profile under the state's new recreational cannabis market. This week on the podcast, we learn more about the history of consumption areas, and the questions left to be answered as the state sets up rules and gets ready to accept applications for consumption area licenses.

In this episode, you will also hear mentioned that the Cannabis Control Division is holding this Thursday, October 28th. Regulation and Licensing, which operates the Cannabis Control Division, will be meeting to discuss licensing requirements for manufacturer, retail and courier licensing. The group will also take public input. Also, if anyone is interested, the Cannabis Control Division is also taking new applications for the Cannabis Regulatory Advisory Committee. If you are interested, be sure to act quick, though. The deadline to apply is tomorrow, October 27th.
