God created the heavens and the earth. He created it to work together, and much of it functions independently. The food cycle, the water cycle, and the circle of life all work without any intervention from humanity. However, some things require our work. The Bible says God created man in His own image. When He did this, he gave man the job of maintaining and tending the garden. He desired that man participate in the maintenance of his creation. Our text tells us that the plants and herbs were not growing because there had been no rain on the earth. God would provide the rain, but man must provide the effort to tend and harvest those plants. God provides the materials, and man must put forth the effort to bring fruit. If something in our life is not growing, it is not because God did not provide the rain. We must put in the work to realize the fruit. Our world devalues what it means to be a man. It tries to confuse men and women's role in God's plan. The Bible is clear: man is to tend the garden, and woman is to be an equal partner-participant by helping the man to achieve God's plan together. If we are to achieve God's plan, we must focus our efforts on the garden and put in the work to reap the harvest.
