This Sunday, I will continue my summer sermon series, Reel Theology: Going to the Movies with God, with part 2, "The Boys in the Boat: Harmony, Balance, and Rhythm." If you have not seen this movie, I highly recommend it! It is available on Amazon Prime Video. It is the stirring story of the University of Washington junior varsity rowing team that won the gold medal representing the USA at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. The film gives us powerful insights into the physically and mentally demanding sport of rowing. We also discover how important it is for the team to find harmony, rhythm, and balance. There is an illustration for all of us there as well. When my life feels out of rhythm, it is easy for frustration and anxiety to make their way into my psyche. I'm going to guess many of you know this feeling as well. Falling out of balance with one another creates friction. The Apostle Paul, writing to the early church in Rome, reminds us to "live in harmony with one another; do not be arrogant." There is more, but you can see he gives us practical advice!
