MUMS (Mothers Uplifting Mothers) at Fall 2023 Salem QM, held at the Lower Greenwich Friends Meeting.

Five years ago, MUMS (Mothers Uplifting Mothers) was organized in Bridgeton by a group of Mothers in Cumberland and later Salem Counties who have lost children to gun violence. The purpose of Mums is to hold, create, and share a space for mutual healing.

It was almost serendipity that the women found Karen Barnett, Director of the Bridgeton Municipal Alliance – Youth to Youth Program, who found ways to honor every woman’s experience, and helped in organizing and developing MUMS.

Greenwich Friends Meeting and Salem Quarterly Meeting invited all Friends to join MUMS and Karen Barnett at the Greenwich Friends Lower Meetinghouse for an afternoon program to listen and affirm the women’s stories, bear witness to the road they are traveling and become part of their healing journey.

Music credit: “Old Greenwich Friends Meeting House (1771)” from Down Jersey Scenes by Paul Mack Somers — Michiko Otaki, piano.
