Cities and Memory - remixing the world

"I've been really into the concept of "anemoia," a term referring to feelings of nostalgia for places or events that one has never experienced. Listening to field recordings often gives me this feeling; they're a little glimpse into someone else's life or a part of the world, and the sound-only nature of field recordings allows the listener to use their imagination and immerse themselves into the moment.
"The recording I chose is of a quiet morning in Italy. The sound of crickets are punctuated by soft noises of people beginning the day. I've never visited Italy, but the recording transported me there, and I imagined sitting on a balcony with a coffee, soaking in the sounds as the first rays of morning light spread across the sky.
"The piece I wrote is very delicate - it doesn't overshadow the field recording, but instead accentuates the mood of the sounds. As the piece progresses, reverb washes over the field recording, transforming it into something ethereal and dreamy. Hopefully it will make you feel like you're experiencing anemoia too!"
