In this episode 358, we feature Brian Biswas and his first novel, The Astronomer, an exploration of a man’s struggle with a neurological disease, the nature of reality, and the workings of his own mind. This book is both a love story and the tale of a man’s journey to find his place in the universe. Kirkus calls it “a fantastically strange novel that’s as grippingly eccentric as the protagonist at its center.”
Show discussion highlights:
● The personal inspiration for the character of Franz Herbert
● The appeal of magical realism
● Writing short stories vs. writing novels
● This book’s 50-year journey to the page
● Tips for how to edit your writing–and when not to edit
