Episode 68 of Center Maryland's The Lobby features screenwriter, creator, executive producer, showrunner and film director Eric Lodal. Lodal joins the podcast to discuss what it was like working on one of Virginia Senator Tim Kaine's first campaign, writing Laredo, and potential intersections between politics and entertainment.

About Eric:

Eric Lodal is a screenwriter, creator, executive producer, showrunner and film director. He has written and developed original television series and feature films for Warner Brothers, F/X, TNT, Fox Studios, FTVS, Sonar, Sony and New Regency. He co-created "Murder In The First" with Steven Bochco, a serialized murder mystery set in San Francisco and currently distributed on Hulu. Lodal has also developed TV series with William Broyles Jr. (Laredo), Steven Gaghan (Search and Rescue), Michael Eisner (Bel Canto), Michael De Luca and Jenna Santoianni (Simple City), Matt Tolmach (Double Badge), amongst others. Lodal is currently working on several projects including Camelot, a dramatic rendering of the Kennedy presidency and Zona, a new crime series set in the world of human trafficking.

Lodal graduated from Yale University with a double major in economics and music and received his Master's degree from The Juilliard School. He spent his twenties engaged in a variety of diverse professional pursuits, which would inform his future writings. While at Juilliard, he moonlighted as an analyst at a Wall Street private equity fund KPS. A classically trained opera singer, he has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, with the New York City Opera, and was featured on NPR's "World of Opera."

In 2001, Eric served as Communications Director for former Governor of Virginia and current US Senator Tim Kaine. He was a senior political staff writer during both the 2004 and 2008 Presidential campaigns.

In 2005 he took his first stab at filmmaking, writing and directing "The Locrian Mode," an abstract musical short film. The award-winning film was the official opening night selection at the 2006 Beverly Hills Film Festival and appeared at over two-dozen international film festivals, including The Montreal World Film Festival, Festival du Cinema de Paris and The Rome International Film Festival.

Lodal was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Northern Virginia. He currently resides in Aspen, Colorado and Los Angeles.
