Curiosity led to a successful jewelry business...
Manage episode 317132084 series 3139401
As a devoted “policy wonk” bureaucrat, the subsequent transition to solo entrepreneur came as a complete surprise. Nothing in her background prepared her for self-employment or for the field of jewelry sales. Anne Dee holds a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, UT Austin and a B.A. in Economics from Tufts University, Medford, MA. With a public service orientation, Anne Dee worked in federal and state government for 15 years, focused on public health administration. Yet during a trip to Bali in 1995, she felt extraordinarily, profoundly rooted there, with an inexplicable powerful feeling of “home” and the need to be able to go back. Based solely on her intangible connection to Bali, she left her chosen field of government and created Pieces of Bali, rapidly learning on the job and importing from the island to the U.S. Traveling to Bali 2 times each year, Anne Dee imports sterling silver jewelry and select other unique items hand-made by multiple artisans. Pieces of Bali has now been selling wholesale to stores, and direct retail at select trade shows, for 26 years!
