S4 Episode 9: The Grand Game - Ted Slauson and the Perfect Bid
Manage episode 414210328 series 3345111
Whether you're a die-hard fan of "The Price is Right" or simply intrigued by the inner workings of game shows, in this episode we dive into the world of TV's longest running show, with its superfan - Ted Slauson.
Ted was a fan of the Bob Barker version of The Price Is Right starting back in 1973, and started attending tapings when he was 18 years old. Ted began keeping track of and memorizing prices of frequently used prizes and products even before he was eligible to be a contestant. Over the course of 24 years and 37 tapings, Ted used this memorization to help many contestants win cash, prizes, and new cars and even won some prizes for himself when he was called to "Come on down" as a contestant in 1992.
In 2008, Ted created a bit of scandal by communicating the exact price of a showcase to a contestant, who took Ted's bid and ended up making Price is Right history by being the first or possibly second contestant to bid exactly right on a showcase.
