In 1545, Tudor England was facing seemingly insurmountable odds as the French fleet gathered off the coast of the Isle of Wight, ready to invade. King Henry VIII sent his somewhat smaller naval fleet into battle, led by his treasured flagship The Mary Rose. Horror and chaos would soon ensue as the Mary Rose listed and sank only a few miles from Portsmouth shores, in full view of the King. The Mary Rose lay on the sea-bed for over 400 years before being raised in 1982, witnessed by millions worldwide on BBC television. Today you can visit the shipwreck and many of her 19,000 artefacts that have been recovered over the last four decades at the Mary Rose Museum and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Suffice to say, there are few locations which allow you to step back in time and immerse yourself in a moment of British history quite like this one! To find out more about the Mary Rose Museum and how to book tickets, go to www.maryrose.org or on Facebook @MaryRoseMuseum --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chris-tetreault-blay7/message
