Din & Daf: Conceptual Analysis of Halakha Through Case Study with Dr. Elana Stein Hain The case of מודה בשטר שכתבו Bava Batra 154 Bava Batra 154a discusses the following case: Where a signed shtar (contract) has not been verified as genuine by witnesses, does admitting being party to it give you an advantage (i.e., we accept your version of events), or does it put you at a disadvantage (i.e., we now take the shtar seriously on its own, independent of your events). This is called מודה בשטר שכתבו, and in this shiur we will consider what this case tells us about the relative power of admission, possession and signed contracts.
