Compassionate Endings In Business (Feat: Lynette S. Kim)

"Empathy and understanding are critical factors in a mediated divorce because there is no winner or loser. The end of the process is defined by an agreed upon solution. We never outwardly discuss these factors, but they are integral to every step we take. It is important to understand that ending a marriage, even by mediation, is never painless. When the process is undertaken with empathy, a more amicable solution is attainable.
My role as a professional family law mediator puts me in the role of helping people navigate through the hard conversations. This is a process I find meaningful. Sometimes these conversations are ones the couple struggled with while they were married. A family law mediator is not a therapist. My role is not to heal a broken bond nor am I acting as an attorney advocating on anyone’s behalf. When a couple, who has agreed on a mediated divorce, retains me as their chosen mediator, I am working with both parties. This role built around mutual support creates, for many of my clients, a more positive image of what a divorce should look like".
