Jonah, Deconstruction, and the Heart of God - As a book, Jonah is unique among the minor prophets because it is focused on the life of the prophet rather than on his message or ministry. It presents us with an uncomfortable and challenging picture — God’s prophet fighting against God’s heart. Standing behind all the storms and fish and questions and struggle in Jonah, is the heart of God. God offers Jonah the invitation to let go of old ways of seeing the world (deconstruction) and to fully embrace His heart and character (reconstruction). We’ll spend our time together looking at the heart of God — the struggle of Jonah — and the healthy ways God calls us to let go so that his heart can become ours. We’ll also see how Jonah’s painful deconstruction journey becomes a template for our own whole-hearted discipleship to Jesus.
