Acts 4:29-31 (NIV) – [29] Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. [30] Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders THROUGH THE NAME OF YOUR HOLY SERVANT JESUS.” [31] After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. Stretch Our You Hand to Heal 1. We can ask for ANYTHING in the name of Jesus. 2. No other name brings salvation or healing but Jesus. 3. We can’t expect healing if we have not been with Jesus. 4. Miracles are not a competition. 5. You must know the person behind the name. Acts 19:13-16 (NIV) – [13] Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” [14] Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. [15] [One day] the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” [16] Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. Mark 14:51-52 (NIV) – [51] A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, [52] he fled naked, leaving his garment behind. 1 John 4:4 (NIV) – [4] You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. Philippians 2:9-11 (NIV) – [9] Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, [10] that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, [11] and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 6. You must have a relationship with Jesus before you have a right to use His Name. Matthew 7:21-23 (NIV) – [21] “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. [22] Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ [23] Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” 7. What distinguishes a false prophet from a true one is obedience. Matthew 24:24 (NIV) – [24] For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 8. True miracles make people believe; false miracles make people deceived. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 (NIV) – [9] The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, [10] and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
