The United States of America: A Country That Has Left God

Christianity has always been a big part of American life. Early settlers came here to practice their religion in peace, and it was very important to them that their new home supported that right. The original 13 colonies were predominantly Christian states, with the first one being founded by Puritan separatists who wanted to live away from what they saw as the ungodly practices of drinking and dancing in church services back home.

Every president up until Franklin Roosevelt has been a Christian or had some formal Christian affiliation. Even now, there are plenty of Christians in high places - and low ones, too, for that matter - but America is no longer a Christian countryaccording to many politicians.

You could argue that we have left God behind entirely.

Why is America no longer a Christian country?

To answer this question, we need to think about what it means to be a Christian.
We have to do more than affirm that we believe in God. Jesus said that we will be judged on how we treat others.
The question many are asking today is: If we are so Christian, why are we living in a way that is so un-Christian? Many examples demonstrate why America can no longer be considered a Christian country.
These include the growing hostility to people of faith and the rise of intolerance, the breakdown of the family and the epidemic of divorce, the increase in crime and violence, and the abortion of millions of unborn children.

How have we left God?

There are many ways we have left God behind. We have become greedy and selfish, putting our desires above all else. We have lost sight of relationships' importance and replaced genuine connections with social media.

We have unwisely embraced technology as our new God, sacrificing time and relationships for more screen time. We have replaced the need for God with a drive for money and fame. And, most tragically of all, we have killed millions of unborn children, ending the lives of those who could have been our future doctors and scientists, teachers and poets, nurses and religious leaders.

The slippery slope to no faith

The fact that we see so many people abandoning the church and turning away from God is shocking, but it should not be surprising. After all, we have been heading down this path for some time now, which leads nowhere good.

We have been bending the knee to the false God of pleasure, and as a result, we see fewer people worshipping at churches and more people shopping on Sundays. And we see people in our government actively seeking to silence people of faith and to remove faith from the public square.

Atheism and agnosticism in America

Not all of the atheism in America stems from hostility toward religion. Some people claim atheism because they genuinely believe that there is no God.

Others are agnostics, saying they don't know whether there is a God and that it would be silly to commit to either position. Agnostics are often seen as wishy-washy, flip-flopping on issues of faith and God.

But in fact, many have decided to leave God behind actively. Some have reached their conclusions after reading the Bible and other religious texts, while others have agreed that there is insufficient evidence to prove God's existence.

Materialism: we worship money and fame

Another way we have left God behind is by worshipping money and fame.

We genuinely believe they can make us happy, and we sacrifice our souls to get more and more of them. We have also made sex a higher priority than marriage, allowing pornography to become a multi-billion-dollar industry that abandons real people in favor of artificial pleasure.

And when it comes to our relationship with our family members, we have forgotten that they come first. We have been too busy with work and play to spend time with the people who love us, and as a result, we have seen the divorce epidemic sweep across the country for decades.

Moral decay: We worship pleasure, not God

We have also seen moral decay sweep across the country as we have given ourselves up to pleasure and abandoned pursuing what is good and right.

We have embraced a libertine lifestyle, sometimes shoving the Bible aside as irrelevant and unhelpful. We have become a nation comfortable with pornography, divorce, cohabitation, and abortion, and we have fought bitterly to keep God out of the public square.

Is there any hope for the future?

The real question is: Can we turn things around? Can we once again make America a Christian country? The good news is that God is watching over his people and is not surprised by our mistakes.

The bad news is that he is not surprised by our mistakes, either. He expects us to make mistakes, and he expects us to learn from them. The Bible tells us that God is patient and knows that every knee will bow to him one day. In the meantime, God will be with us as we struggle to make America a Christian country again.

As followers of Jesus Christ we can not and must not be silent about the evil all aroud us.
we must stand firmly in our faith in trust in God. not man.
