Join us in the latest Aleph Podcast episode where A For Aleph Founder Umair Dar delves into the musical universe of Waleed Ahmed, better known as Janoobi Khargosh, a true maverick in the Pakistani music scene.

Waleed’s musical voyage began in his teens, initially through the genres of death metal and progressive rock with his bands Dionysus and Lohikarma, and a solo album under his own name. It was the creation of his alter ego, Janoobi Khargosh, however, that marked a pivotal shift in his artistic expression. Embracing a unique blend of indie rock and synth-pop, coupled with straightforward Urdu lyrics, Janoobi Khargosh resonated deeply with a new wave of Pakistani listeners, gaining viral fame on Soundcloud in the pre-Spotify era.

Waleed's early exposure to diverse music genres by his parents, from Pink Floyd to Kishore Kumar, shaped his eclectic musical tastes. A request for a guitar at age eleven set him on a path of creative exploration, leading to composing his own songs from a young age.

Waleed’s repertoire is not just confined to being a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, and bassist; he's also a talented producer. His significant contributions to Pakistan's underground music scene are now receiving global recognition, evidenced by his track 'Cpt. Space' under Janoobi Khargosh being featured in the title sequence of the season finale of 2022’s Ms. Marvel on Disney Plus.

For those yet to discover Waleed's work, it’s a musical journey worth embarking on. Explore his albums like 'Survivors', 'Billi Khamba Aur Aranstashari', and the synth-pop EP 'Cpt. Space', which showcases the breadth of his creative genius.
