It's probably a lot more than we know at the moment." - Jaap de Roode Jaap de Roode is a biology professor at Emory University, and he is the author of an astonishing new book called Doctors by Nature How Ants, Apes, and Other Animals Heal Themselves . I say astonishing because I had no idea about so much of what he explores in his book. It never occured to me to consider that other species use medicine and have been healing themselves forever. Jaap tells stories of animals across nature, from bumblebees to chimpanzees, how they use plants and natural substances to treat infections, to ward off parasites, to self-medicate. Bringing children into the world made him want to make the world a safer place. Adam was motivated by the need to offset carbon, by the great comfort he found in working the land, and by members of his family who were also tree lovers (arborists and tree surgeons). Over the years, and as this incredible tree cultivating and planting project has developed and expanded throughout Bath (UK), Adam has also noticed how great friendships have been forged as the community has come together to support and implement such a meaningful cause. Tara and Vicky had the pleasure of interviewing Jacqui Storm. Jacqui shines a light on the vital relationship we have with our minds and bodies. She has been on a life journey for personal health and believes that all human beings have an inner healing intelligence. She helps people to access this through self-help and preventative therapy. Jacqui explores how the breath empowers and how it compliments solution-focused work. She sees a strong link between back pain, emotions and nutrition. Jacqui is an experienced chiropractor and acupuncturist, and a lecturer in both subjects. She studied at the Scandinavian college of chiropractors in Stockholm and the international Su Jok Acupuncture Association in Moscow. On her quest to discover healing opportunities that reveal mind and body connection, Jacqui also became a trained nutritionist, and yoga teacher. She has additional qualifications in Twist and Meridian therapies, reiki, reflexology and deep tissue massage. Recognizing that chronic back pain is always accompanied with emotional upset, Jacqui now combines spinal therapy with breath work.
