Martin talks to Hayley Tink from Almary Green about the role our behaviour plays in making financial decisions and being a money coach. Hayley has been an adviser with Almary Green since 2009 and started her financial advising career in 2004. Hayley is a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, the highest possible level of qualification for a financial adviser. She has won several awards for her examination achievements. She is a member of the Society for Later Life Advisers, and specialises in this area of advising clients in later life, including in relation to care fees planning and providing advice to those acting under powers of attorney. She is also an Affiliate member of the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners, (STEP) having achieved in 2011 a STEP Excellence Award for her top mark in the country in the STEP Certificate for Financial Services (Trusts and Estate Planning). Hayley reached the pinnacle of her achievements so far in November 2012 by winning the prestigious Chartered Financial Planner of the Year award. Most recently, Hayley has trained as a Certified Money Coach (CMC)® with the Money Coaching Institute. One of the few advisers in the UK to also be trained as a behavioural money coach, Hayley is able to bring a new dimension to her financial advice work, as well as providing stand alone money coaching sessions for those who wish to understand the psychological dimension of their own relationship to - and patterns over - money. What does hostage negotiation have in common with financial planning? Martin talks to former hostage negotiator Richard Mullender. After a 25-year career working in the London Metropolitan Police as a detective investigating serious crimes, Richard Mullender moved into hostage negotiation. He quickly worked his way up to become Lead Trainer at Scotland Yard’s world-renowned National Crisis and Negotiation Unit. As a hostage negotiator, Richard built his career on elite listening techniques. Since retiring, he has adapted these techniques from the field and applied them to the corporate world, teaching invaluable communication skills to governmental organisations and leading multinationals alike. Richard brings a unique breadth and depth of experience, having designed and run courses all over the world, developing the negotiation skills of officers for organisations that include the Metropolitan Police, the United Nations, the FBI. In addition to extensive crisis negotiation field experience in the UK, Richard was also deployed to Afghanistan and has been active across a wide range of international negotiation assignments. Richard was part of the negotiation team that helped secure the successful release of three UN workers in Afghanistan in 2004.
