This is an episode from the Replay series in which we look back at past episodes for those new to the podcast.
Today we look back at my discussion with Jodee Gibson about trauma and coping, which was originally published on 22nd January 2023.
It’s a really good episode, thanks to Jodee, who is a human behaviour expert and master coach.
Jodee is based in Michigan. Her work is deeply layered in developmental psychology, NLP, neuroscience, consciousness, trauma, levels of energy and intention. The intersection she created between these is fascinating. Being a Detroit native, her approach is always practical and conversational.
Jodee coaches and speaks worldwide.
Jodee's book "Healing Your Map: A Guide to Understanding Discernment, Trauma and Human Behavior" is available now (https://a.co/d/eix3SkT) with an audiobook available early 2023.
Many parents suffer trauma through alienation, false allegations and the Family Court system. We discuss this and some methods for coping including NLP, the work of both Richard Bandler and Tony Robbins, Jodee's ideas and her book.

×Today we talk with Brent Bowlby about his ongoing 7 year family law case in the USA. It's a complex story and highlights some of the challenges so many people face in family courts. This is part 3 of the conversation. Parts 1 and 2 were episodes 62 and 63. We were originally only going to do 2 parts but after formal recording Brent and I spoke for quite a bit more and we decided to publish it. Brent says he is happy for listeners in similar situations to contact him about the issues discussed, via X direct message. This is an episode from the Replay series in which we look back at past episodes for those new to the podcast. Today we look back at my discussion with Justin Breen, which was originally published as episode 17, on 16th April 2023. Justin is the author of the Wall Street Journal and USA Today Best Selling book Epic Life and runs BREPIC, a PR company. I first connected with Justin when I saw him online at Peter Diamandis’ Abundance 360 event. Peter’s podcasts and work on exponential change and moonshots are inspiring. I recently listened to the audiobook of Epic Life and enjoyed it a great deal. Many of us don’t see our children or see little of them. Most episodes are based on this scenario and it will always be the central focus but we also want to discuss other parenting issues such as education, mediation, busyness, etc. for people in those situations too. All parents, alienated or not, can have challenges juggling time. Alienated parents have to juggle time with coping with trauma, working on a family court case and trying to work to keep our head above water. We will discuss Justin’s thoughts on how he keeps his focus on family first. This episode is also about moonshots. I want to discuss Justin’s idea of moonshots and whether reform of the family court system could be seen as one. Christmas can be a difficult time whether you are a targeted parent or not. This episode first aired in Christmas 2022 and it highlights 12 ways to help you cope with #ParentalAlienation or #FamilyCourt We have episodes published and planned with experts in their fields to go into depth in specific areas but for now I wanted to give a quick list of many things you can try. In my experience nothing works all the time but many things work at different times and that's fine. As John Lennon said 'Whatever gets you through the night'. This is the seventh Christmas for my case. By Christmas 2018 I hadn't seen my child for over 2 months. It was terrible but, little did I know, the abuse was only just beginning. Despite a solicitors letter my abuser wouldn't allow even a moment with our child. Are abusers oblivious to the heartbreak that causes or do they revel in it? I am no expert in the ideas in this episode but I have tried many of them and found they help. This episode is just a quick surface run through which may provide you a springboard to try them or find out more by searching the internet or Youtube. Whether you are seeing your children or not, have a good Christmas. The system is broken and causes harm to us and the children but change will come in time. Parts of the world are improving so there is hope. Above all stay strong for your children. Many listeners are suffering alienation because a co-parent has taken their children. Others are going through divorce and suffering stress and an uncertain outcome. Many are suffering psychological abuse. If you are still living with your co-parent and are suffering physical abuse seek immediate help. If your life is in danger through physical or psychological abuse, assault or suicide please contact support services whether it is the police or suicide prevention charities. Do what you can. Look after yourself for your children. This is an episode from the Replay series in which we look back at past episodes for those new to the podcast. Today we look back at my discussion with Mike Bell of the Family Court Reform Coalition (FCRC), which was originally published as episode 11, on 27th November 2022. Many people, including judges and MPs, have described flaws in the family law system. The flaws seem well known but they persist and harm parents and children. Mike brought some people together to produce a report of solid proposals suggesting ways to reform to the system. In a short space of time the report has been seen by MPs, Sir Andrew McFarlane, Sir Graham Brady and has been sent to the Minister of Justice and the new Home Secretary, Suella Braverman. We talk about this work, the aims and hopes for the future. We also explore how other people can get involved. The report can be read here: https://fcrc.uk/final-report It can be endorsed here: https://fcrc.uk/support-fcrc The report can also be shared and forwarded to MPs, Lords and people in the system to help change. This is an episode from the Replay series in which we look back at past episodes for those new to the podcast. Today we look back at my discussion with Orsi, which was originally published on 5th February 2023. We discuss how meditation and yoga can help cope. Methods for coping with trauma are vital when going through alienation, family court or other stress. Orsi has great practical advice which is why this episode was picked to air again. It originally aired as episode 12, way back on 5th February 2023. Here are the show notes from that show: Today we talk with Orsi, a meditation and yoga teacher about using them to help cope with trauma. There is lots of content out there but I want to discuss meditation and yoga in the context of parents going through hell and how it can help. Some parents may not have considered meditation due to lack of time or stress so, for our listeners, I wanted to raise it as a tool to try. The family court is brutal for parents and children. It shouldn’t be but it is. Children and parents can be in limbo for years and suffer alienation. Parents can also suffer false allegations and financial hardship. Servere trauma can result. One thing I want the podcast to look at is ways to cope. We need ways to cope because family law is a long way from perfect and legal professionals can be detached from empathy and understanding. There are many tools we can use and today we look at meditation and yoga. Both are used increasingly these days. Many top people use meditation for business, sport and wellness. We need to try and stay well throughout the court process or while being abused so this episode is in the context of using these tools to help parents cope. Orsi discusses also discusses how meditation and yoga can help children, whether they are stressed by court or just to help with life in general. Meditation and yoga can help in so many situations. This is an episode from the Replay series in which we look back at past episodes for those new to the podcast. Today we look back at my discussion with Anna Maria DiDio, originally published on 23rd June 2023. Anna Maria lives in Philadelphia. She holds a BA in Psychology from Villanova University and an MSW in Family Specialization from the University of Pennsylvania. For over twenty years, she has devoted time to non-profit organizations, locally and globally. She has served as President of Women International Leaders (WIL) of Greater Philadelphia, which provides micro-finance loans and empowerment grants to women in under-resourced countries. She is also on the board of Impact100 Philly. Her parenting journey began with infertility struggles, which were isolating and sent her into depression. After two miscarriages, she was blessed with a baby girl, but adding to her family proved impossible. That's how she found herself at an orphanage in Mexico, to meet a six-year-old girl who she adopted. Inspired by that journey, she wrote a memoir called Love at the Border, An Adoption Adventure. Traditionally orphanages are portrayed negatively however Anna Maria speaks warmly of her experience in Mexico and of the Ministerios de Amor shelters which have changed the way Mexico cares for children. She has also written the ‘L.I.F.E. Adventures’ series of children's books, featuring stories about adoption and foster care. The books cover topics such as trauma, attachment, identity, and grief. Anna Maria’s mission is for parents and educators to use these stories as an effective tool to open up the discussion about adoption, foster care and the love within blended families. Today we talk with Dave Bond who, by any measure, has had an astonishing time in the family courts of the UK and USA. It’s an incredible journey and one that no good parent and child should have to go through. Dave has a crowdfunding effort (link below) and he is writing a book. Today I look at a few recent examples of many at how authorities fail the public. This may put in context part of why Family Court is so bad.

Many of us have ours and our children’s futures decided by the family law system, not just courts but other decision makers i.e. guardians, child solicitors, social workers, etc. In practise none of them are really accountable for bad outcomes and there is no measuring of outcomes. These are 2 serious flaws I discuss that in this episode.…
This is an episode from the Replay series in which we look back at past episodes for those new to the podcast. Today we look back at episode 5 which originally aired on 30th October 2022. It was the second episode discussing parenting in Christopher Nolan films with @DerickMcduff from the Underrated podcast (@undercastco). This was a meandering hoot with lots of offshoots! We discuss @Interstellar and also talk music: @Trevor_Horn_, Steve Lipson and @HansZimmer. We also discuss @mrbobodenkirk, @BetterCallSaul and other movies and TV shows. It was very enjoyable talking with Derick about parenting themes in Christopher Nolan films. I hope you enjoy listening! Two quick corrections to things I said in this episode: 1. I mentioned Steve Lipson produced Hans Zimmer’s James Bond soundtrack. He co-produced the theme song, not the soundtrack, but Steve Lipson has produced other Hans Zimmer soundtracks. 2. When discussing Hans Zimmer I remembered his Top of the Pops performance incorrectly. If you search on YouTube, he was performing Living in the Plastic Age not Video Killed the Radio Star, although he does appear in the music video for Video Killed The Radio Star briefly. See if you can spot him! One warning: if you haven’t seen the movies mentioned, this episode may contain spoilers! We discuss Inception as well as E.T., A.I., Minority Report and more. You may be wondering why we are talking movies on a parenting podcast. In some episodes I want to discuss parenting and parental alienation themes in movies, books and music. Art is one of the most beautiful and powerful things in life and revisiting art can help us get through the dark times of abuse and parental alienation. Over 2 episodes we discuss 2 Christopher Nolan films. In this episode we talk @Inception and the next episode will cover @Interstellar. This episode we also discuss parenting themes in Steven Spielberg’s movies E.T., A.I. and @TomCruise’s role in Minority Report. Finally we touch on @HansZimmer’s music and Groundhog Day. It’s a packed episode! I had a lot of fun discussing these movies and it was great to get Derick’s insights. There are many parental themes in these movies. More than you may think! One warning: if you haven’t seen the movies mentioned, this episode may contain spoilers! I have been approached by someone from a documentary maker about my story. I am deciding whether to take part but I am often contacted by parents who want to get their stories out and there are pros and cons to doing so, hence this episode. If any listeners want me to pass on your details, DM or email me and I will. Links Episode 14 - https://audioboom.com/posts/8234043-stories-telling-your-story…
In the light of a recent news story, I look at paternity testing and whether dads should be able to get a test outside of court proceedings. Some people might see this as an issue for men but it is wider. I discuss how testing has issues for mums, dads and children, including how paternity tests can improve health outcomes for children. Links I mention a recent video from a judge which went viral. Here is one of many links to it: https://twitter.com/VetFather_Bill/status/1758955451167723961…
This episode I look at the word ‘expert’, not so much to do with court as more widely in society. In many areas of life, experts affect us and sometimes spectacularly let us down. I look at some examples. We need experts but there are few people who really know what they are doing well enough to advise the way experts do and I think we need to be realistic about experts and the word itself. Perhaps it's time for a rebalancing of how experts are perceived across all fields and industries. I think the term ‘expert’ is overused and overvalued and should be viewed as what it often is - an educated guess that often comes without accountability. I discuss this and look at examples.…

Occasionally I want to look back at past episodes for those new to the podcast. Today is one such episode. I wanted to revisit my discussion with Dr. Marni Hill Foderaro from episode 8. I hope you enjoy listening to it. It's one of my favourite episodes and even before today (April 14th 2024) is already the 8th most popular episode ever. It was a wide-ranging and interesting discussion with Dr. Marni who was a fantastic guest. I enjoyed talking with her a lot. Here are the show notes from the episode: In this episode we welcome Dr Marni Hill Foderaro and talk about her alienation story, path to growth and book series “True Deceit False Love” which addresses domestic violence, narcissistic abuse, parental alienation and intergenerational family trauma. Dr Marni earned her doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University and completed postdoctoral studies at Harvard during a very successful and rewarding 35-year career as a high school special education teacher, with 12 years as a university adjunct graduate school professor. Many alienation cases involve young children but Dr Marni’s children were in their 20s when alienation occurred and we discuss this. Her books provide a creative response and resources to help understand a variety of challenging family dynamics, including parental alienation. Dr Marni gives talks on these topics and in January 2022 Marni was inducted into the Bestselling Authors International Organization. I enjoyed greatly talking with Dr Marni. I found it illuminating to hear her inspirational story of self-care, her journey out of trauma and into book writing as well as her insights on healing, generational trauma and alienation. In this episode I discuss lawyers and MPs protesting about The Garrick Club and how this relates to family law.
Today I cover a news story that happened this week that impacts many parents. Britain's NHS has banned the NHS from prescribing blockers that hamper the physical development of children. I discuss this healthcare story along with comparing it to Britain's medieval family law system.
Episode 40 is a look back at episodes 31 to 39. Thanks to all the fantastic guests and listeners. The podcast would be nothing without you. As I often say, if someone wants to take over presenting this podcast let me know and I will be glad to go back behind the scenes. This episode is a compilation of episode clips rather than a ‘best of’ clips as that is individual choice. It is for regular listeners and also a taster for people new to the podcast. It covers these episodes: Episode 31 - Review: 30 Episodes In 60 Minutes. Bitesized Clips For Newcomers To The Show Episode 32 - Reform: Should Interviews In Family Law Cases Be Recorded? Episode 33 - Reform: Transcripts And Bundles Episode 34 - Rewind: Coping - Simple Ideas For Christmas and Beyond Episode 35 - AI: Can Artificial Intelligence Fix Family Law? Episode 36 - Annual: Looking at 2024 Episode 37 - Incentives: How Incentives Work Against Good Outcomes Episode 38 - Messaging: Touching The Future With Alienated Children Episode 39 - Comparison: Are Good Parents And Children Treated Worse Than Criminals? In the family court many good and innocent parents and children suffer more and are treated worse than criminals found guilty of crimes. Considering in Britain all cases come under the umbrella of the Ministry of Justice I discuss this in today's episode.
In today’s episode I want to revisit an idea we spoke about way back in episode 5, which was about parental separation in the movie Interstellar and other movies. It’s a great episode, thanks to Derick McDuff. It is a simple idea but one I have found useful over the years. The idea is using email, photos or other online ways to send messages to a child you are alienated from. Those messages may only be read years in the future, when your child has grown up, but they can help and I discuss practical ways to do this and considerations to keep in mind when messaging. There's also a clip of Derick and I discussing the concept from episode 5. Many of us have seen incentives play out badly in family court, with solicitors milking Legal Aid, milking parents, parents making false allegations to get Legal Aid, prolonging cases and taking a case that could resolve amicably and blowing it out of the water to the detriment of parents and children. In this episode I discuss how incentives in other industries, and disruption to them, could improve things for parents and children if applied to family law. To illustrate this I make reference to episodes from Peter Diamandis' Moonshots podcast, which is fantastic and I highly recommend. Links 1. I love podcasts and I listen to many, two of which are Exponential Wisdom with @DanSullivanSC and @PeterDiamandis and Moonshots with @PeterDiamandis. I highly recommend listening to both. They cover many things, including AI, which is one of the hot topics of 2023. Those podcasts are not directly connected to our struggles for justice in family law but they are full of forward thinking developments and perspectives. They also talk about the idea of a moonshot. I believe our goal of a fair family law system that supports targeted parents and children can be seen as one and I discussed this with Justin Breen in episode 17. AI will have massive impact on the world. In today's episode I discuss ways it could impact the family law system. Christmas can be a difficult time whether you are a targeted parent or not. This episode first aired last Christmas and it highlights 12 ways to help you cope with #ParentalAlienation or #FamilyCourt We have episodes published and planned with experts in their fields to go into depth in specific areas but for now I wanted to give a quick list of many things you can try. In my experience nothing works all the time but many things work at different times and that's fine. As John Lennon said 'Whatever gets you through the night'. This is the sixth Christmas for my case. In this episode I discuss the current state of transcripts and bundles in the court system and how it hampers justice and reflects the prehistoric condition of family law. I give many ways things can be improved. We need a modern system not a Jurassic one because parents and children deserve better. I gave some other simple reform examples in episodes 2 and 32.…
Episode 2 had 6 simple low and no cost ideas for effective reform of family law. In this episode I wanted to give one more in answer to the question: should interviews with family law experts be recorded? The answer is 'Yes'. To not have them recorded represents a serious problem in the robustness and integrity of family law in England and Wales. To have recordings is good practise and protection for the truth, good parents and children.…
This episode is for those new to the podcast. Every 10 episodes there is a clips episode. We've had 3 so far (episodes 10, 20 and 30). Listening to all 3 clips episodes would take a long time. The guests content is great but, as a shorter introduction episode for anyone just discovering the podcast, I wanted a bitesize clips episode so people can quickly hear parts from all the shows and choose which episodes they want to listen to in full. This episode possibly took the most amount of work to put together because, in making it, I re-listened to previous episodes. It made me realise anew how fantastic the guests are. Many thanks to all the guests and listeners. You are the people who matter. Today I talk about a book that has helped me: 'Man’s Search For Meaning' by Viktor Frankl. The book applies equally to men and women and I can recommend it to anyone who is being abused or going through tough times. One of the ways of coping with the trauma that we get from abuse and alienation and the Family Court is by exploring stories of adversity. Examples of coping adversity don't get much more difficult than, of course, a concentration camp in World War Two, which is where Viktor Frankl's book is set.…
A real-life story of a parent, narrated by actor Alana Hillenaar. It tells of someone experiencing ‘Triple A’ (abuse, abduction and alienation). Best wishes to any parent and child being abused. I hope one day things change so nobody has to go through it. If you would like to tell your story let me know. You can narrate it yourself, do a podcast interview or, if you want to remain private, and we can provide narration. We can also help you with writing if you would like. 1 27: Books: Edward James Talks About His Case and Book ‘Bad Dad: The Truth Will Set You Free’ (Part 2) 34:54
Today we have part 2 of my talk with Edward James, who is a father of three. We discuss his experience of the family court, parental alienation and more. Edward is the author of the book ‘Bad Dad: The Truth Will Set You Free’ which talks about his experience of truth and lies, injustice, narcissism, mental health and love. The book aims to offer hope to others who find themselves in similar circumstances. He also wrote 'Bad Dad: Parenting Alienated Children', which is a short book documenting how he has worked to help his alienated children. Readers will hopefully gain some understanding and find useful information within the stepwise approach to his methods he adopted to run a positive home with a 'yes' culture. We speak on many topics and it is a long conversation which is why we published it in 2 parts, with part 1 in the previous episode. Today we are joined by two guests to talk about the law. Thomas Williams was born in Liverpool UK and moved to America in 2002. He is an avid researcher, author of two books called From His Story to Our Story, volumes 1 and 2. He is the owner of a charity foundation designed to help struggling people, the creator of a community village in New Mexico, a radio show host of the Truth, Honor & Integrity show, or THI show. He is the producer of a new document and manifesto called The New Blueprint for Humanity, which will be hand delivered to the White House, the UN, Elon Musk and many other prominent people. The website for that is thenewblueprintforhumanity.org His community also has working groups on growing your own food, health remedies and true law. Roger Isaacs was born in the UK and grew up in Cornwall. His family originates from Glamorganshire on his Mother’s side and Devon and Cornwall on his Father’s. At 17 he joined the Royal Air Force and worked as an Air Defence Technician for 7 years. In 1987 he emigrated to Canada to reconnect with his mother, sister and brother. In 1990 Roger moved to British Columbia where he continued to work in the Telecommunications industry and raised a family of 2 daughters. In 1990 Roger started training in the martial art of Aikido with Mind & Body Unified. He has been teaching Universal Principles and Aikido for over 28 years and is the Chief Instructor of his dojo and a certified full lecturer with the Ki Society International. Roger joined THI in 2017 and has been following Thomas Williams podcasts since then. In 2019 as he was studying law, he was asked to lead the Law Group in THI. His study led him to Frank O’Collins and Ucadia. He wants to share what he’s learned about the True Rule of Law, the provenance of modern Western-Roman law and why there has been no rule of law since the 16th century. He is passionate about encouraging people to study Ucadia, learn who we are, what is the true rule of law and how to restore the true rule of law in our societies. They believe to restore law, we must develop communities of trust and the Golden Rule that all are equal under the law, no one is above the law and the New Blue Print for Humanity is a step in that direction. 1 24: Law: Lawyer Raymond Hekmat Discusses Family Law In California, Prenups And His Work As A Divorce Consultant And Mediator 56:38
Raymond Hekmat is a lawyer and founder of Hekmat Law & Mediation, APC based in Beverly Hills. They focus on family law with areas including divorce, paternity, custody, support issues as well as prenuptial agreements. Raymond earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Law School in 2009. During his tenure at Loyola, Raymond was President of the Evening Bar Association, and was awarded the Alumni Association Governors’ Alumni Award. While earning his degree, Raymond worked as a law clerk, and later an associate, for a Beverly Hills family law firm. Later Raymond was an associate with Law Offices of Schuchman & Aldin in Century City, where he managed his own complex family law caseload, as well as provided assistance to the partners in family law litigation. He is admitted to practice law in California and is a member of the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills Bar Associations. Raymond received his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies, with honors, and a minor in Business Management from the University of California at Irvine, with study at the London School of Economics in London, England. He was also a member of the Division I UCI Men’s Tennis Team, and continues to play competitive tennis as a member of the USTA. Raymond was born and raised in Los Angeles and lives in West Los Angeles with his wife and two sons. Raymond also has the distinction of being the first lawyer to appear on the podcast! The discussion is wide ranging and covers topics including differences between family law in Britain and California, free speech and a refreshing take on why prenups can be a good idea for most, not just the rich and famous. One correction I want to make is, in this episode, I referred back to episode 16 and my discussion with Dr. Larry Waldman Ph.D. ABPP. I mistakenly referred to him as a psychotherapist whereas he is of course a psychologist. If you haven't heard episode 16 it's well worth listening to as Dr. Waldman had great experience and insights, as does Raymond in this episode. In today's episode we are going to discuss suicide. I want to take a moment to talk about that before we introduce our guest who has kindly agreed to join us. In episode 15 we spoke with Lawrence Sprung about his personal experience with suicide and also his work with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Please revisit it if you are in crisis. The show notes also contain links to help. Suicide is a topic we feature on this podcast because of its link to parental alienation, family court proceedings, legal abuse, etc. The result of the extreme trauma caused, sometimes maliciously and for no reason, and sometimes by people who call themselves professionals, can cause suicide in parents and children. Today’s guest is Collin Hughes. I heard his story a few months ago and I was moved by it. I hope this episode will reach those listeners going through tough times or listeners who know someone who is. Collin is a former pro-rodeo athlete, a former airline pilot and is now a voice actor. That’s a pretty interesting sounding trio of careers. However in 2022 Collin’s 15 year old granddaughter, Evangelina, died by suicide. Collin has a moving website ( https://stopsuicide.life ). He also speaks widely on the subject of suicide to raise awareness and I am very grateful he agreed to join us. During the conversation Collin spoke about the QPR Institute who talk about the 'Question. Persuade. Refer' approach to suicide prevention. Today our guest is Anna Maria DiDio. Today’s guest is Mick Smith PhD, He is a digital marketer, executive, podcaster, voice actor, author and, he says, a recovering academic. He lives in California and is the author of the book 'burning America: In the Best Interest of the Children?'. It is a fictional story in which the main character, Paul, a middle-class professor, has his world shattered when his child is taken by his wife who leaves him a note. The story ponders the question ‘Do the courts really act in the best interest of the children?’ In the book the parents planned for their child’s home, school, clothes, food, and happiness but then Paul’s five-year old daughter is taken from him and he faces 3 years of hell. How did this podcast get to 20 episodes? It is nothing to do with me. Great guests and listeners is the answer. Thanks to all of you. As I often say, if someone wants to take over presenting this podcast let me know and I will be glad to go back behind the scenes. This episode is a compilation. It isn’t a ‘best of’ as that is individual choice, it is more of a taster for people new to the podcast. Today we have part 2 of my talk with Positive Conclusions, who works in the UK to reform the family courts and mediation to put children and families first. Positive Conclusions works closely with the Family Court Reform Coalition, whose website is FCRC.uk . We interviewed Mike Bell from there in episode 7. It’s great to see good people, men and women, coming together to help bring positive reform for parents and children. We speak on many topics. It's a long conversation which is why we published it in 2 parts, with part 1 in the previous episode. Enjoy! Today’s guest is Justin Breen. He is the author of the Wall Street Journal and USA Today Best Selling book Epic Life and runs BREPIC, a PR company. I wanted to do some shows on how to cope with abuse and alienation. In recent episodes began that by discussing trauma and meditation. Today we talk about suicide and suicide prevention. The websites findahelpline.com and www.suicide.org have links to helplines and suicide prevention links in many countries. Please take a look if you are suffering or suicidal or you are concerned for someone else. Our children need us to stay around for them, whether we are seeing them now or whether we are being alienated and will see them when they are older. Children also die by suicide and as a society we need to improve prevention. Our guest today is Lawrence Sprung. He lives in New York and is the founder of wealth management company Mitlin Financial Inc. He is an Investopedia Top Ten Advisor for 2022, he hosts the Mitlin Money Mindset™ podcast and he spent over 12 years on the National Board for The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In 2004 Lawrence lost his brother-in-law Keith to suicide. He reacted by turning his sadness into a mission to raise awareness for mental health. He has become a resource for the community and he has helped many parents seeking help for their children. Lawrence has also raised over $1.5 million for the Keith Milano Memorial Fund charity. We learn about Lawrence’s story, his work improving financial literacy for parents and children and his work with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Suicide Prevention Links Around the World These websites have links to helplines and suicide prevention links in many countries. They also have other information for people suffering. Way back in episode 1 I mentioned that listeners could use the podcast to tell their own stories. Some guests have done that and it would also be good for listeners, who want to share, to be able to. So, if you want to do that consider this episode an open invitation. Sharing our stories is powerful and increases awareness. I believe raising awareness is a key to change. As Mike Bell described in episode 7, often politicians just aren’t aware of how bad a problem is until they see the details. Some people have contacted me and they have a few barriers to sharing. For example, they don’t like public speaking or writing, they want privacy or they have court order constraints, fear of abuse, etc. I want to make it as easy as possible for those who want to share by providing writers or narrators for free to help if you don't want to write or speak. You can even change names in a story for anonymity. Alternatively, if you want to tell your story on your own or as a discussion with me that is fine too. Raising awareness is the aim. If you don’t want to come on this podcast please consider sharing your story on other podcasts, blogs, Youtube, eBooks, social media, etc. There has never been an easier time for people to publish their stories. Raising awareness helps those in positions of authority to become aware of how bad things are and how badly change is needed. It also helps others going through the same as us or just starting the journey. Hearing how others coped can provide strength, strategy or just the feeling they are not alone, which is really important.…
This is a change to the scheduled episode. I recorded this to mark the death last week of the great Burt Bacharach. RIP. We sometimes do offshoot episodes, such as our discussion of parenting and separation in movies. I wanted to discuss music and parenting today and talk briefly about a parenting story I read about Burt. I also briefly mention another of my musical heroes, Joni Mitchell. We can sometimes think that celebrities have an easy time of it but they have the same parenting problems as anyone else. Both Burt and Joni are musical heroes of mine.and if this episode causes you to listen to a few of their songs today it is a good thing.…
Today we talk with Orsi, a meditation and yoga teacher about using them to help cope with trauma. Our guest today is Jodee Gibson, a human behaviour expert and master coach. Jodee is based in Michigan. Her work is deeply layered in developmental psychology, NLP, neuroscience, consciousness, trauma, levels of energy and intention. The intersection she created between these is fascinating. Jodee's book "Healing Your Map: A Guide to Understanding Discernment, Trauma and Human Behavior" is available now ( https://a.co/d/eix3SkT ) with an audiobook available early 2023. Many parents suffer trauma through alienation, false allegations and the Family Court system. We discuss this and some methods for coping including NLP, the work of both Richard Bandler and Tony Robbins, Jodee's ideas and her book. Episode 10 already. We have covered a lot of ground so I wanted to do a look back at play a few highlights from the shows. It isn’t a ‘best of’ as that would be individual choice. This episode is more a taster for people new to the podcast. We’ve had some fantastic guests. A big thank you to all of the guests and listeners. OK let’s go... Episode 1: was a welcome to the podcast. I spoke a a bit about suicide prevention. Episode 2: described 6 simple and cheap ways to massively improve the family law system. Episode 3: I talked with @DerickMcduff about parent child separation in the movie Inception and other movies too. Episode 4: I spoke with Ros Barton of @matchmothers. They support all women who are alienated from children. Whether you are a mum, aunt, grandmother, sister, etc. they can help. Episode 5: I talked with @DerickMcduff about parent child separation in the movie Interstellar. We also branched off onto other films. Episode 6: my podcast was discussed in court. I gave my thoughts on podcasting during proceedings. Episode 7: I spoke with Mike Bell of the Family Court Reform Coalition (@FCRCUK) Episode 8: I spoke with Dr Marni Hill Foderaro about her books, thoughts and learnings about parental alienation. Episode 9: I gave some simple ideas for coping at Christmas and beyond. Thanks to everyone for listening and getting involved. Have a great 2023. We've got some great episodes coming this year. Christmas can be a difficult time whether you are a targeted parent or not. In this episode I give 12 ways to help you cope with #ParentalAlienation or #FamilyCourt We have episodes planned next year with experts in their fields. We will go in depth on specific areas but for now I wanted to give a quick list of many things you can try. In my experience nothing works all the time but many things work at different times and that's fine. As John Lennon said 'Whatever gets you through the night'. This is the fifth Christmas for my case. In this episode we welcome Dr Marni Hill Foderaro and talk about her alienation story, path to growth and book series “True Deceit False Love” which addresses domestic violence, narcissistic abuse, parental alienation and intergenerational family trauma. In this episode we speak with Mike Bell of the Family Court Reform Coalition. This episode was recorded in October and was originally due to be released on November 13. It was postponed for reasons explained in the episode 6 audio and show notes. This short episode replaces the planned episode. The other side raised the Fair Parenting Podcast in court this week but could not show anything improper. They also added more false allegations which were very upsetting. The podcast release schedule is planned weeks ahead and today we were due to release an episode with the Family Court Reform Coalition. I have postponed it as this week’s events leave me in a state of worry. Four years of false allegations, alienation & gaslighting has left me treading on eggshells. The Family Court Reform Coalition is a solid organisation whose report has been viewed by judges and MPs. Many of them have said the system needs reform so the idea of reform is non-contentious and the episode has balanced sensible proposals. However, I worry that, a few days after court, the other side may say I hastily recorded an episode about court reform. They have not done so but the history of corrosive false allegations worries me. I am not anti-court, I am pro-court. That is why I have been in court for 4 years. The current system has flaws and is exploited by malicious parties and many MPs and judges have said the same, however discussing it on the podcast could be exploited and used to attack me. Four years of psychological abuse and allegations takes a toll. I am sure many who have been through similar can understand. The episode was recorded and tweeted about in October but court hearings often don’t have enough time for fact checking and mud can stick if enough is thrown. On the wider point of podcasting, last week, court said I should get legal advice and podcasting was OK as long as kept to the court order. I respect court orders and I will keep within them. In July, before the podcast launched, in a different court, a judge suggested we tell our story to help others. I was surprised but she did say that. I will keep within the terms of court orders. So, I apologise to The Family Court Reform Coalition ( FCRC.uk ). It was a timing problem this week. It is a good episode and I look forward to publishing it soon. Instead, we have my reflections on podcasting during proceedings and why I make the podcast. It has always been about the listeners, guests and helping others and not about my case. Thanks to all of you who listen and give feedback. I recorded it on my phone yesterday to get thoughts down. I was going to re-record but I decided the phone recording was authentic and ‘real’ so here it is. I hope you enjoy it.…
This is the second episode discussing parenting in Christopher Nolan films with @DerickMcduff from the Underrated podcast (@undercastco). In this episode we speak with Ros Barton of MatchMothers.org . Ros also works with @MyCAFCASS advising them on change and she is also part of Recover Our Kids. We hear about the positive support available from MatchMothers.org . They support mums and ALL women separated from children, so if you are an aunt, grandmother, sister, etc. please contact them for support. Women are sometimes overlooked in terms of alienation awareness but parental alienation does happen to them and it was great to speak with Ros about this. We learn about the story of the lady who started MatchMothers over 40 years ago and Ros’ own journey. If you are an alienated mum, grandmother, aunt, etc. you are not alone. Please contact MatchMothers.org for support. Note: The audio quality in this episode is not 100% but I hope the content shines through.…
In this episode we talk movies with Derick McDuff from the Underrated podcast.
