Manage episode 446507476 series 3266947
When Lil Wayne released Tha Carter II on December 6th, 2005, Hip Hop was in an open space. It was a time where Jay-Z was entering the executive space after the Rocafella era, and South began to rise thanks to a diverse array of sounds from No Limit to D4L. However, for record label Cash Money, it was a time to rebuild. Following the fall of the Hot Boyz, Wayne began to make sure people knew that he was the Best Rapper Alive with Tha Carter series. The first installment introduced listeners to Weezy, while the second solidified his dominance in the late 2000’s. This week, we take a look back at Tha Carter with our friends Otis (@OtistGlenn) and Dave (@TrapBasquiat) and choose our top 2 songs from the album while also talking about Wayne’s legacy in rap, his crazy political beliefs, and how Tha Carter II as well as his mixtape hustle helped shape the generations to come.
