In Rugby Union: Dr. Brett Robinson (Australia) has been elected as the new Chair of World Rugby at the 2024 Interim meeting of Council in Dublin, Ireland. · Jonathan Webb (England) was elected Vice-Chair from the six representatives who were elected to the Executive Board. They are: · Northern hemisphere high performance unions (2): Susan Carty (Ireland), Jonathan Webb (England) · Southern hemisphere: Mark Alexander (South Africa), Bart Campbell (New Zealand) · Non high performance Union (1): Sally Dennis (Canada) · Region (1): Herbert Mensah (Rugby Africa) In Rugby League: Tongan star Addin Fonua-Blake is a chance to make history as the first player from a Pacific Island country to win the IRL Golden Boot, awarded to the best player in sanctioned rugby league international matches each year, after the short list for the 2024 award, was cut down to six from 17 contenders, chosen by members of the international media. Fonua-Blake is joined by Australian trio Isaah Yeo, Harry Grant and Tom Trbojevic, New Zealand rookie Keano Kini and England centre Herbie Farnworth. The Men’s 2024 IRL Golden Boot is chosen by Golden Cap recipients Darren Lockyer (Australia), James Graham (England) and Petero Civoniceva (Australia/Fiji), who are among just nine players to have played 50 internationals. The winner of the 2024 IRL Golden Boot award will be announced in early December. In Football: England looked good in their 3-0 win over Greece in Athens on Thursday - avenging their 2-1 defeat they suffered at Wembley last month, to go top of their Nations League group, after goals from Ollie Watkins, debutant Curtis Jones and an own goal. Now for Ireland at Wembley on Sunday. In Sports Biz: Caitlin Clark joked she would spend her WNBA offseason trying to become a professional golfer. As she ponders a “Lionel Messi–like,” seven-figure offer to play in the new “Unrivaled 3-on-3” Women’s basketball league that will begin in January, Clark is getting the chance to show off her golf skills on the LPGA Tour, where she’s competing in a pro-am event in Tampa Bay. The tournament has seen a big boost in interest and ticket sales since confirmation of Clark’s participation last month. In Combat Sports: Someone is gonna die after Iron Mike Tyson and Jake Paul walk out for their fight at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas around 4pm Fiji Time today. This after Tyson slapped Paul’s face during their weigh-in yesterday and threatened to kill him in the ring today! Someone please ring 911. And that’s our final wrap Peeps! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 39 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 15 November 2024. Happy birthday Troy – husband of Clarissa. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is crazy warm 24 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Are you locked in for all the big rugby union Tests this weekend in Europe? So, our world famous tips are: Ireland to argiebargie Argentina, Scotland to slomo Portugal, South Africa to debrexit England, the New Zealand All Blacks to franjelico France, Fiji to frisco Spain, Romania to robocop Canada and Tonga to MAGA USA in France. In Rugby League: “I am surprised that they’re not trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and Tom Brady,” Peter V’landys said in response to a claim by former Rugby Australia boss, Hamish McLennan that Nathan Cleary and Payne Haas, plus a host of other NRL stars, were keen to make a code switch in May 2025. This, after Joseph Suaalii snared a three-year contract worth an eye-watering A$5Million to switch codes. “I would be more concerned if I was them, with their A$80M worth of debt that they have created, which puts the whole game in financial turmoil.” In Football: Harry Kane says he is disappointed by the high number of withdrawals from the England squad this week, insisting the national team must come first. Eight players withdrew from England’s initial 26-man squad for their Nations League game in Athens, including Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer. The Euro 2024 runners-up head to Greece for Thursday’s must-win Nations League match before a Wembley meeting with Ireland on Sunday. In Sports Biz: While Disney reported US$22.6Billion in total revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter, up 6% from the comparable period a year ago and beating analyst projections. Operating income rose 23% to US$3.7B, boosted significantly by the company’s entertainment division. Their sports division, led by ESPN, had a flat revenue figure of US$3.9B, and operating income fell 5% to US$929Million, with higher programming and production costs related to college football cutting into earnings. On both a quarterly and annual basis, ESPN’s domestic operations remain profitable while its international activities are a drag on the balance sheet. ESPN+ subscriptions increased 3% to 25.6 million, restoring a growth pattern to the streaming platform. ESPN+ also posted its second straight quarter of profitability. In Combat Sports: Almost 20 years after his last professional fight, Iron Mike Tyson is returning to the ring in this Saturday’s hyped showdown against Jake Paul in an exhibition boxing match, featuring six other fights on the undercard from 1pm. Tyson and Paul are expected to walk out around 4pm Fiji time, which you can catch live and exclusive on Netflix at no extra charge. Let’s get ready to call 911 for an ambulance! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 38 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Thursday morning 14 November 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is crazy warm 24 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Are you locked in for all the big rugby union Tests this weekend in Europe: Ireland vs Argentina, Scotland vs Portugal, England vs South Africa, France vs New Zealand, Spain vs Fiji, Romania vs Canada and USA vs Tonga in France. In Rugby League: Former Fiji Bati and NRL halfback, Brandon Wakeham has had all drug charges levelled against him dropped. Wakeham was arrested in the carpark of Brookvale Oval in May and charged with taking part in the supply of prohibited drugs and participating in a criminal group. Now according to the SMH, all charges were dropped during a hearing at the Sydney Downing Centre Courts on Tuesday. “Throughout this process, Brandon has maintained his innocence and we fought for him with the same belief,” his lawyer said. “Today’s result, with the charges withdrawn and dismissed against him, is a vindication for Brandon who now seeks to rebuild his life, having endured a very difficult time.” The 25-year-old has played 40 NRL games at the Bulldogs and Tigers, plus some games for the Fiji Bati. In Football: “I feel ready for the new challenge. I’m not naive, I know that it’s going to be very, very different, very tough but I’m ready,” and with that, Ruben Amorim jetted to Britain from Portugal on Monday to begin his new mission – to save Manchester United. The former Sporting Lisbon boss is Man U’s sixth appointment since the end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s trophy-filled 27-year-reign in 2013. United are 13th in the Premier League table after a poor start to the season but are only four points off the top four. Amorim’s first match in charge will be away at Ipswich on 24 November, following the current international break. In Sports Biz: The latest baseball sensation out of Japan - Roki Sasaki is one of the most talented pitchers on the planet. He’s a 23-year-old who has dominated hitters in Japan for four years with a fastball touching 164Km per hour. He could wait two years and potentially sign a deal exceeding US$300Million like Yoshinobu Yamamoto did last year. Instead, he’s coming stateside now—where any team can sign him for peanuts, and get six years of discounted control. In Combat Sports: Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul’s exhibition boxing match on Saturday from 1pm will feature six other fights on the undercard: Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano –Super-lightweight Mario Barrios vs Abel Ramos – Welterweight Neeraj Goyat vs Whindersson Nunes – Super-middleweight Shadasia Green vs Melinda Watpool – Super-middleweight Lucas Bahdi vs Armando Casamonica – Super lightweight Bruce Carrington vs Dana Coolwell – Featherweight Some really looking names in that line up. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 37 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Tuesday morning 12 November 2024. Happy Birthday Stuart Gow! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is cool 21 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: If you think that Joseph Suaalii was good in his Test rugby union debut at Twickenham, imagine if the NRL’s top players played a rugby union game against the Wallabies: Nathan Cleary, Jahrome Hughes, Kalyn Ponga, Jarome Luai, Isaah Yeo, Cameron Munster, Harry Grant, Tom Trbojevic, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Stephen Crichton, Dylan Edwards, Tom Dearden, Mitchell Moses, James Tedesco, Matt Burton, Latrell Mitchell, Joseph Tapine, Payne Haas, Reece Walsh and Haumole Olakau’atu. In Football: Pep Guardiola has suffered four consecutive losses for the first time in his managerial career as Manchester City’s dismal spell hit a new low with a late collapse in their 2-1 loss at Brighton. With just 12 minutes left, Guardiola’s troubled side were clinging onto the lead given to them by Erling Haaland in the first half. But they collapsed in the closing stages as Joao Pedro equalised before Matt O’Riley bagged Brighton’s winner seven minutes from full-time. In the NBA: Viewership numbers for the 2024 NBA season have started slowly with double-digit declines for its nationally televised games through the first two weeks, driven by star player absences and competition from the NFL and the just-completed, MLB World Series. Attention to the NBA’s lengthy regular-season has diminished over recent years, but the NBA is hoping the solution is the Emirates NBA Cup, the second run of their in-season tournament that starts on 12 November. In Combat Sports: The Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul’s exhibition boxing match, will be streamed exclusively live on Netflix from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on 15 November, from 1am GMT, which will be 1pm Fiji time on Saturday 16 November 2024. It is the first time Netflix is screening a live fight and it is not a pay-per-view event, so Netflix subscribers can watch it free of charge worldwide. 1 11-11-2024 Breakfast Bites FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS Podcast S11E36 #TeivovoSports #TeivovoDigital 4:27
Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 36 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 11 November 2024. Happy Armstice Day! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is cloudy and 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Young flyhalf, Caleb Muntz put in a Man-of-the-Match performance for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians 24-19 win over Wales in Cardiff this morning, scoring a try alongside Josua Tuisova and adding four penalties and a conversion for a personal haul of 19 points. The win came despite Fiji playing with a man down for 59 minutes after Semi Radradra was red carded midway through the first half for a tough call on a dangerous high tackle, chasing a bomb. Go Fiji Go. In other results: South Africa 32-15 Scotland and Tonga 15-25 Romania. In Rugby League: Tongan supporters flooded CommBank Stadium, Parramatta in a sea of red to see their team produce a second upset in as many weeks following their epic win over New Zealand in Auckland. The greatest fairy tale of 2024 almost produced a Disney ending with Tonga taking a shock early lead when Sione Katoa finished off some beautiful work on his inside by Isaiya Katoa. But slick counter-attacking by the Kangaroos enabled them to establish a 20-4 halftime lead. But no one told the Tongan fans or players that it was over, with back-rowers Haumole Olakau’atu and Eliese Katoa crossing to set up a grandstand finish. Australia are the Pacific Champions 2024, but a big thank you Tonga for making international rugby league great again. In Netball: Australia are Fast5 Champions for a third straight year, after coming from a staggering 15 goals down to beat New Zealand in the final in Christchurch yesterday. The 34-30 win ensured the unbeaten Australians went back-to-back-to-back, but they didn’t have it all their own way in a thrilling decider. In Football: Man U legend, Ruud Van Nistelrooy insists his coaching future at Manchester United ‘remains open’ and he was not treating his emotional send-off yesterday as goodbye, after his time as interim boss came to a close. Van Nistelrooy rounded off his four-game spell in charge with a 3-0 win over Leicester City, taking him to three wins and a draw since stepping up after Erik10’s sacking. The Dutchman received a standing ovation, as he made his way off the pitch and down the tunnel for what could be the final time. In Combat Sports: Mike Tyson, 58, will return to the ring to face Jake Paul, 27, on Friday night in an exhibition boxing match in Arlington, Texas. Paul is in the world's Top 50 highest-paid athletes and will add US$39Million from fighting Mike Tyson . . . who is the man behind this circus? And that’s a wrap sports fans! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 35 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Sunday morning 10 November 2024. Happy Birthday Amelia Kauvaka! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a cool 22 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: This morning - England 37-42 Australia at Twickenham, Argentina 50-18 Italy and France 52-17 Japan in Paris. Tonga to togopati Romania soon. Yesterday – the All Blacks 23-13 Ireland. In Rugby League: Tonga has beaten Australia before, but can they make history and beat the World Champions in an international final? In 2019, Tonga came from behind to upset Australia 12-16 in a boil-over that had Aussie fans crying and their media asking if the Kangaroos took Tonga too lightly. Fast-forward five years and no one will ever be accused of taking Tonga lightly again, after they upset the Kiwis to advance to the Pacific Championships final. Tonga can ride the momentum from Addin Fonua-Blake and Jason Taumalolo to make history against Australia. But their halves Tuimoala Lolohea and Isaiya Katoa are going to have to stand up when it matters in a crucial battle with Australia’s new pair Mitchell Moses and Tom Dearden. In Football: Dutch police have confirmed that five people were injured during a wave of violence that erupted yesterday in Amsterdam when supporters of the Israeli football Club, Maccabi Tel Aviv stormed through the city, tearing down Palestinian flags on private property and chanting incendiary, anti-Arab slogans. In a post on X, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned what he described as a “very violent incident against Israeli citizens in Amsterdam.” He announced the immediate dispatch of two rescue planes to assist Israeli citizens return to Israel. In Combat Sports: Jeff Fenech knows boxing great, Mike Tyson better than most. The duo have been friends for more than three decades and the Aussie legend is confident he knows what’s going to happen when Iron Mike makes his comeback to the ring next week. “I spoke to Mike two days ago,” Fenech told The Daily Telegraph, “It could be over in 40 seconds if he lands one punch.” And that’s a wrap sports fans! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 34 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 08 November 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Our world famous tips for all the big rugby union Tests this weekend: South Africa to blitzbok Scotland, Ireland to bimbo the All Blacks, Fiji to MAGA Wales, England to digareedoo Australia, Argentina to bambino Italy, France to prius Japan, Tonga to togopati Romania, while Lakapi Samoa play marbles under the mango tree. In Rugby League: Former Broncos, Dragons and Wallabies star Wendell Sailor has been charged for an alleged assault on two men in a bar in Sydney’s CBD, after NSW Police officers were called to Pappy’s Bar on Erskine Street around 11pm on Wednesday night. Sailor was reportedly drinking at the bar for several hours before the altercation took place in an alleyway outside. Sailor was granted conditional bail by police and will face Downing Centre Local Court on 28 November. Earlier on Wednesday, police took out an apprehended domestic violence order to protect a woman from Sailor in an unrelated incident. Now 50 years old, Sailor scored 127 tries in 222 NRL games for the Broncos and Dragons from 1996 to 2009 and won NRL premierships with Brisbane in 1997, 1998 and 2000. Sailor also scored 13 tries in 37 Tests for the Wallabies and played in the 2003 Rugby World Cup final loss to England. In Football: Key UEFA Champions League scores from yesterday: Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa, Shatkhar 2-1 Young Boys, Bayern Munich 1-0 Benfica, Paris 2-1 Atleti, Inter 1-0 Arsenal, Feyenoord 1-3 Salsburg and Crvena Zvezda 2-5 Barcelona. In Combat Sports: According to official ticket partners Seatgeek, Tyson vs Paul is on course to have thousands of empty seats on fight night. At present, the titanic-boxing exhibition will fall way short of the expected 70,000-plus attendance, unless a miracle occurs in the next week. Ticket prices have capitulated by half across all categories with some as low as US$30. In Sports Biz: The Saudi Pro League, which spent US$1Billion in the summer of 2023 to recruit some of football’s biggest global superstars, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, has also recorded underwhelming attendance numbers at games. The average attendance for the SPL for the 2024–2025 season is less than 8500 fans per game. As the Beatles sang many moons ago, “Money can’t buy you love.” And that’s a wrap sports fans! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 33 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Thursday morning 07 November 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a very nice 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: So all the big rugby union Tests this weekend sees: Scotland vs South Africa, Ireland vs All Blacks, Wales vs Fiji, England vs Australia, Italy vs Argentina, France vs Japan, Romania vs Tonga, while Lakapi Samoa appears to be lost at sea. In Rugby League: Tonga Captain Jason Taumalolo was one of the first high profile stars to switch allegiance to his native homeland and now a sea of red are backing them to win the Pacific Championships final. Taumaolo had played 10 Tests for New Zealand when in 2017 he chose to defect to Tonga and it opened the floodgates as Andrew Fifita, Siosiua Taukeiaho and a blaze of other stars followed. Two years later in 2019 Tonga beat Australia for the first time ever and last week they beat Taumalolo’s former team, the NZ Kiwis to advance to the Pacific Championships final against the Kangaroos. In Football: Key games from the UEFA Champions League today: Club Brugge vs Aston Villa, Shatkhar vs Young Boys, Bayern Munich vs Benfica, Paris vs Atleti, Inter vs Arsenal, Feyenoord vs Salsburg and Crvena Zvezda vs Barcelona. And results from yesterday: PSV 4-0 Girona, Real Madrid 1-3 Milan, Liverpool 4-0 Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Storm Graz, Sporting CP 4-1 Man City, Lille 1-1 Juventus, Celtic 3-1 Leipzig and Bologna 0-1 Monaco. In Combat Sports: Fading UFC star, Conor McGregor is in Court in Dublin, Ireland facing a charge of raping a woman in a hotel in December 2018. The woman is claiming civil damages against Mr McGregor and another man. In Sports Biz: The 2024 WTA Tour Final features the Top 8 Women’s tennis stars, a purse of US$15.25Million, and a minimum first-place prize of US$3.77M, more than any Grand Slam tournament this year. But the event, in its first year of a three-year deal, to played in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is struggling to fill an arena with a capacity of just 5000. Sunday’s matches played at the King Saud University Indoor Arena, featuring World No. 2 Iga Świątek against 2024 Wimbledon Champion Barbora Krejčíková and a showdown of US stars, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, only drew 400 fans, according to The Athletic. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 32 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Wednesday morning 06 November 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a humid 22 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Fiji has dropped below Australia and into 10th place in the World Rugby Men’s Rankings, after their record 57-17 thrashing to Scotland at Murrayfield, in the opening round of the Autumn Nations Series. In Rugby League: Unassuming Tongan Head Coach Kristian Woolf looks like he could finally be the man to smash the Wayne Bennett curse when he takes charge at the Dolphins. It was amazing watching Tonga’s thrilling victory over the NZ Kiwis, to advance to the Pacific Nations final against the Australians. And as much as the players deserve huge kudos for what they have achieved, so does Woolf, who has been a key driving force in Tonga’s emergence as a genuine powerhouse of international rugby league. In Football: UEFA Champions League games today: PSV 4-0 Girona, and underway - Real Madrid vs Milan, Liverpool vs Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund vs Storm Graz, Sporting CP vs Man City, Lille vs Juventus, Celtic vs Leipzig and Bologna vs Monaco. In Sports Biz: More than 50,000 runners from 150 countries participated in the TCS New York City Marathon, held Sunday, staged in crisp, sunny, idyllic conditions. But the hilly nature of the New York course prevents this race from ever being a site for world records in the sport. Each of the Men’s and Women’s top finishers in the open division took home a tidy US$100,000 - claimed by Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands, and Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya. Only the Boston Marathon pays out more - US$150,000 to their winners. In Major League Baseball: According to New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman, Top free agent hitter Juan Soto's new "magic number" is US$700Million or more — and that’s a solid US$700M, not the record US$700M contract that’s 97 percent deferred that Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani received from the Dodgers, writes Heyman. Last winter, Ohtani signed a 10-year, US$700M deal. However, US$680M of that total money is deferred to 2034 until 2043. Soto has already heard from interested teams - 11 to be exact, but the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are probably the only ones who can make such a deal – with the Favourites being the New York franchises – the Yankees and the Mets. The Mets are the fan favourites, as team owner Steve Cohen has unlimited funds to spend, in a sport where there is no salary cap! And that’s a wrap sports fans! In Rugby League: Size doesn’t count for everything, but stopping Tonga’s Ton of hulking forwards in the middle, is bloody tough. Tonga bashed through New Zealand’s defensive line in their upset 25-24 win last weekend, with Addin Fonua-Blake and Jason Taumalolo combining for 388M to help their country qualify for the Pacific Cup final in Sydney. Tongan Captain Fonua-Blake @ 123Kg, Taniela Paseka @ 120Kg, Jason Taumalolo @ 115Kg, Haumole Olakau’atu @ 113Kg and Eliesa Katoa @ 110Kg dwarf their Australian counterparts, with Tonga set to unleash a six-man forward pack, weighing 1004kg on Sunday. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 30 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 04 November 2024. Happy birthday Ben Hazelman! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a balmy 23 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Former Australia and Leinster rugby player Rocky Elsom who fled Ireland after Irish police arrived at his workplace and home to detain him following an international arrest warrant, issued by French authorities, has now gone on record in the Australian press as to his sudden exit from Ireland. The 41-year-old was convicted in October by a French Court of forgery, use of forgery, and misuse of corporate assets, related to his time as President of French rugby club Narbonne in 2014 and 2015. The court in France sentenced Elsom in absentia to five years in prison and ordered him to repay approximately €700,000 to the Club. In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Elsom, who did not disclose how he left Ireland or his current location, criticized the legal proceedings in France, saying that he was neither informed of the trial, nor given a chance to respond to the allegations, which he denies. In Rugby League: England roasted Toa Samoa 16-34 in their second test at AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium on Saturday. Shown live on BBC One, the clash attracted an average audience of 741,000, and peaked at 844,000. Meanwhile the Papua New Guinea Kumuls showed they are the best, winning the Pacific Bowl, beating the Cook Islands Aitu in Port Moresby yesterday 44-20. They now play the New Zealand Kiwis next week. In the WNBA: Stephanie White’s signing as the new Head Coach of the Indiana Fever, leaves six WNBA teams missing Head Coaches - the Los Angeles Sparks, Sky, Dallas Wings, Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics and the Sun - who finished last season with a winning record, are all without Head Coaches. Front Office Sports reports the possible reasons for the mass Head Coach firings across the WNBA could be related to their unprecedented growth and the extra money teams are expecting to receive from the US$2.2Billion media-rights deal. In F1 Racing: Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took a major step toward securing his fourth straight F1 title, by winning the Brazilian Grand Prix overnight, to earn his first victory since June, and his eighth grand prix win of the year. Despite starting 17th on the grid, the flying Dutchman increased his lead over McLaren's Lando Norris with three races remaining. Verstappen could secure the trophy in Las Vegas this month. In Combat Sports: While many fans have expressed concerns about Mike Tyson fighting an opponent who is more than 30 years younger than him, he insists there is nothing to be worried about. "I don't think I'm 58. Do you think I feel 58 when I'm fighting these young niggers in the gym, and they're bashing me them big strong mothers, and I'm bashing them back," he said. Happy birthday Trish Aisake! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a balmy 23 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: The Flying Fijians were chasing the score against Scotland 57-17 at Murrayfield. Results for the other Test played overnight - England 22-24 All Blacks at Twickenham and former Wallaby Captain, Rocky “Balboa” Elsom has fled Ireland to avoid extradition to France. In Rugby League: Tonga burst out of the blocks in their Pacific Championships Test against the New Zealand Kiwis in Auckland yesterday, scoring four unanswered tries in the opening 32 minutes to leave the home crowd stunned. But the Kiwis came back to level the scores at 24-24 thanks to an incredible solo try from veteran prop Joe Tapine in the 69th minute. Only for Tonga to clinch a historic 25-24 win, thanks to Isaiya Katoa slotting a long-range field goal in the 76th minute, to book their spot against Australia in the Pacific Championships final. Go Tonga Go! In Football: Europe’s top women’s professional soccer league has agreed to a five-year media-rights deal with Sky Sports and BBC. The league described the deal as “the most significant broadcast partnership ever for women’s football.” According to The Athletic, the pact is estimated to be around US$83.8Million. In Sports Biz: A new VIP ticket package released for the second Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix race, scheduled for November 21 to 23, is almost half the original price last year. The Lewis Hamilton Package includes a three-day ticket to the West Harmon Grandstands and complimentary food, water, and soft drinks; costs US$672 before taxes and fees, down from the original price of US$1,200. In Combat Sports: A 27-year-old Australian Muay Thai star, Jayson Tonkin, also known as “The Dingo” was said to be “in a state of severe intoxication” and panicking about why his friend, a 21-year-old British boxer, was found unconscious with drug paraphernalia in their hotel in Pattaya, near Bangkok, Thailand according to local media. Finally, only in America: The most expensive ticket in boxing history is on offer for the clash between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 28 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Saturday morning 02 November 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a balmy 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: England has been warned by All Blacks Captain, Scott Barrett that Joe Marler’s call to ‘bin’ the haka has ‘loaded the gun’ for the All Blacks ahead of tomorrow morning's Test at Twickenham. England rugby union Prop, Joe Marler had called for the All Blacks Haka to be banned, saying: “It’s only any good when teams actually front it with some sort of reply. Like the league boys did last week.” The Harlequins front rower was referencing England rugby league player Mikey Lewis, who went head-to-head with a Samoan player, while their Siva Tau war dance was being performed before their clash in Wigan last Sunday. Our world famous tips for all the Tests this weekend - Ireland to happydiwali the Australian Wallabies, the Flying Fijians to kalamazoo Scotland at Murrayfield and England to pakapaka the All Blacks at Twickenham. In Rugby League: The NRL has handed Josh Addo-Carr a four game suspension, along with a A$15,000 fine. “The Foxx” was also handed a A$682 fine and a three-month driving suspension by NSW Police. Where oh where will Josh Addo-Carr land? In Football: Ruben Amorim was confirmed as Manchester United’s new Manager today. The Athletic said the 39-year-old would stay with the Portuguese league leaders for their next three games, including next week’s Champions League match against Manchester City. He is expected to take charge at Old Trafford during the November international break, with his first game set to be Man U’s away trip to Ipswich on 24 November. In Sports Biz: The Paris Olympic Games not only boosted the entire Olympic movement but it also boosted NBC Sports and Peacock’s parent Comcast. The company said Thursday that it generated US$32.1Billion revenue, up 6.5% on the third quarter last year. Peacock, which showed all of the Paris Olympics live, increased its subscribers 9% over the prior quarter to 36 million, boosting revenue 82% to US$1.5B. No doubt, Paris was the halo, generating a company-record US$1.9B in incremental media revenue from the Olympics, mainly through advertising and new Peacock subscriptions. On the other hand, Comcast’s cable distribution business lost another 365,000 video subscribers during the quarter – down to 12.8 million - a year ago, subscribers stood at 14.5m. And finally, baseball came back in a big way with the MLB World Series, with the Los Angeles Dodgers spanking the New York Yankees in five games. Fox Sports said the series averaged 15.8 million viewers across all network platforms, 74% over last year: · Game 1: 15.2 million viewers. The game was the best Fall Classic opener in 7 years · Game 2: 13.8 million viewers. Competing against a full slate of college football. · Game 3: 13.6m viewers. Nikola Jokic continued his epic start to the season with a 29-point, 18-rebound, 16-assist treble double — the 150th of the three-time MVP career — while Russell Westbrook shut down his critics, added 22 points and five assists in 20 minutes off the bench. In the MLB World Series: The Los Angeles Dodgers produced a stunning fightback to beat the New York Yankees and clinch the World Series with a dramatic come-from-behind 7-6 win. On a night of spellbinding drama at Yankee Stadium in New York, the Dodgers sealed their eighth Major League Baseball Championship title, after recovering from 5-0 down for a 4-1 series victory. The Yankees, who had kept the series alive with an 11-4 rout in game four on Tuesday, had looked poised to take the series back to Los Angeles for game six, after home runs from Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm and Giancarlo Stanton. But a catastrophic fifth innings by the Yankees, saw the Dodgers tie the score at 5-5. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 26 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Wednesday morning 30 October 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a cool 21 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Tests this weekend starts with Ireland hosting the Australian Wallabies on Friday, Scotland versus the Flying Fijians at Murrayfield and England out for revenge against the All Blacks at Twickenham. No Tonga and Samoa? In Rugby League: Pacific Championships Round 3: New Zealand Kiwis vs Tonga on Saturday at Go Media Stadium, Auckland with just one change for Tonga - Sydney Roosters youngster Siua Wong added to the bench in place of Keaon Koloamatangi, who has left the squad to be with his partner, who is due to give birth. In the Pacific Bowl: Papua New Guinea Kumuls vs Cook Islands Aitu on Sunday 4pm at Santos National Football Stadium, Port Moresby. PNG Kumuls skipper Rhyse Martin will miss the game due to personal reasons, replaced in the second row by Dan Russell. Judah Rimbu starts at Hooker. In Football: The Red Devils have moved quickly to settle on the man that they want to take charge, after the sacking of Erik10. Sporting Lisbon FC has confirmed an approach from Man U for their Head Coach, Ruben Amorim. In doing so, they also revealed that the Portuguese's contract includes a €10Million transfer fee. Should Amorim complete the move to Old Trafford, he would be the tenth Manager since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson - David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the recently sacked Ten Hag have all had relatively short, unsuccessful spells, in charge. In UFC: In the latest UFC rankings update, former No. 13 Khamzat Chimaev has jumped to No. 3, pushing Robert Whittaker down to No. 4. So the Russian hit man sits below UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis, No. 1 contender Sean Strickland and No. 2 Israel Adesanya. Chimaev has two options for his next fight: If Du Plessis rematches Strickland, Chimaev can fight for the No. 1 contender spot against Adesanya. In the MLB World Series: No team has ever overcome a 0–3 deficit in the World Series, and the Yankees now face that daunting task. Their struggles have been multifaceted, but the biggest issues stem from the lackluster performances of some of their star players. The New York Yankees are just one loss away from a potentially humiliating outcome: being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers. With the Dodgers securing wins in the first three games, including in game 3 last night in the Bronx 4-2. It’s “Showtime” sports fans, and that’s a wrap! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 25 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Tuesday morning 29 October 2024. Happy birthday Pita Driti! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is 22 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning. In Rugby: Did the Siva Tau backfire? England thrashed Toa Samoa 18-34 in Wigan in the first of a two-Test series between the two nations. The game had plenty of feeling stemming from Samoa’s traditional war dance, which saw the visitors’ get right into the faces of their opponents. If anything, the passionate Siva Tau seemed to spur England on, who raced out to a 16-0 lead after 20 minutes There was also a massive second half brawl. In fact, should the Samoans, the Kiwis, the Tongans – in both rugby union, plus rugby league - and the Flying Fijians all follow the example of the Fiji Bati and do away with their traditional war dances and sing a song instead? In Football: Manchester United has sacked Manager Erik ten Hag after dropping to a low 14th in the Premier League table after suffering their fourth loss in nine league games at West Ham on Sunday and have won only one of their last eight games in all competitions. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited. In the NFL: Super star Samoan Miami Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned to the field last weekend, five weeks after suffering his third concussion in less than two years. Tagovailoa threw for 234 yards and one touchdown. However, he was unable to secure the win for Miami after a last-second field goal lifted Arizona, 28–27. “I’ve been preparing to play for five weeks while I was on IR,” Tagovailoa - the 2023 NFL passing leader said at the postgame press conference. “I’m just trying to avoid the big hits.” Tagovailoa signed a four-year US$212.4Million deal that runs until 2028. If he retires, Tagovailoa would give up US$124M in guaranteed money. In the MLB World Series: As expected, the 2024 World Series has been a gift for Fox and Major League Baseball. The first two games of the series between the LA Dodgers and the New York Yankees averaged 14.5 million viewers across Fox networks, the most through two games since 2017, Fox announced. Saturday’s game averaged 13.4m viewers and peaked at 16.4m, the most-watched Game 2 since Dodgers–Red Sox in 2018. The Fox audience was up 65% on Game 2 of the 2023 World Series. The MLB World Series is now headed to New York, but with the Dodgers ahead 2–0, ticket prices for Games 3-5 in Yankee Stadium have dropped. Despite the dip, the tickets are still some of the most expensive in World Series history. It’s “Showtime” sports fans, and that’s a wrap! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 24 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 28 October 2024. Happy birthday Mere Vasu! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Netball: Australian netball great Nat Medhurst has delivered some brutal truths to the “shell shocked” Diamonds after the world champions coughed up the Constellation Cup to the Silver Ferns for just the third time in history – 41-63 in Perth yesterday. In Rugby League: The Kangaroos prevailed in Christchurch with a 22-10 win over the Kiwis, in the Pacific Championships. For Australia, hooker Harry Grant led the way and consistently schemed from behind the ruck, being supported by a host of big-name stars. Meanwhile, for New Zealand, veteran Shaun Johnson showed he’s still got it, two months after he played his final NRL game. Meanwhile, the Cook Islands Aitu are on their way to Port Moresby as a sacrifice to the Papua New Guinea Kumuls, in the Pacific Bowl. In case you’re wondering where the Samoans are – they lost to England in the UK early this morning 18-34. In Football: Lionel Messi’s postseason debut is putting MLS in the spotlight when Inter Miami hosts Atlanta United in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs. The game will be free to stream on Apple TV, as part of a push to gain more viewers in the second season of a 10-year, US$2.5Billion deal with MLS. Apple doesn’t release its TV ratings, but it reportedly surpassed 2 million subscribers for MLS last season. Atlanta United will host Inter Miami in Game 2 next weekend. In September, nearly 68,000 fans turned out to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to watch Messi play there. The MLS’s total regular season attendance tally was 11.4 million, up from 10.9 million in 2023 - a new record of 23,234 per game average. In UFC: Ilia Topuria said he would knock Max Holloway out for the first time in his career — and that is exactly what happened in UFC308 in Abu Dhabi yesterday. The UFC Featherweight King proved that he is the real deal, dropping Holloway with a brutal right hand, and then getting the job done with a left hook. In the co-main event of UFC308, undefeated Russian, Khamzat Chimaev forced Australian, Robert Whittaker to tap out in one of the most violent submissions ever seen. In the MLB World Series: Yoshinobu Yamamoto emerged from Shohei Ohtani's large shadow yesterday, to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a commanding lead in the World Series. In just his first MLB season, Yamamato gave up one hit into the seventh innings, while Teoscar Hernandez and Freddie Freeman hit back-to-back home runs for the Dodgers 4-2 win over the New York Yankees to take a 2-0 World Series lead. Happy birthday Jenell Pardiwalla! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is mostly cloudy again and a warm 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: The All Blacks crushed Eddie Jones’s Japan 64-19 in Yokohama yesterday, running in 10 tries in a routine win despite a sleepy start. Debutant Ruben Love put a polish on the score by claiming two late tries in the space of three minutes for New Zealand after coming off the bench. The match was the All Blacks’ first in a tour that will also see them take on England, Ireland, France and Italy on successive weekends. In Rugby League: Playing in his last Test for the Fiji Bati, Michael Jennings scored a treble, Maika Sivo and Semi Valemei chimed in with a double each, out of a total of 10 tries of which eight were converted for a big 56-6 win over the Cook Islands in the Pacific Bowl in Suva last night. The Fiji Bulikula also won 18-6. In the NBA: Following his high-profile move from the Golden State Warriors, four-time NBA Champion Klay Thompson was back to his best, dropping six triples on 7-of-13 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and three steals in 26 minutes in his Dallas Mavericks debut. While Thompson popped off 22 points, Luka Doncic top-scored with 27 as Dallas downed the San Antonio Spurs 109-120 in their season opener on Friday. The sharpshooting star’s six three-pointers set a franchise record for the most threes for a Mavericks player on debut. In UFC: “It’s a tough fight for both guys. If you look at what Rob has accomplished, who he has fought, this is one of his toughest tests. And there’s no doubt about it that this is definitely Khamzat’s toughest test,” UFC Boss Dana White bangs on about Robert Whittaker vs Khamzat Chimaev in UFC308 today in Abu Dhabi. In Football: Man U is actively speaking to the following Managers to replace Erik10: Former Barcelona Coach Xavi, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, Edin Terzic who is available after leaving Borussia Dortmund and Brentford’s Thomas Frank also has his admirers at Old Trafford. In the MLB World Series: The Los Angeles Dodgers brought back vivid memories of championships in 1981 and 1988, all wrapped inside a single emotional evening, as they powered their way to the early advantage in the MLB World Series. Freddie Freeman hit a game-ending grand slam in the bottom of the 10th innings as Los Angeles rallied for a 6-3 win over the New York Yankees yesterday to win Game 1. The 35-year-old first baseman delivered in the clutch with a moment that is destined to become part of the folklore of World Series history. An elated Freeman joked that he had almost had an out-of-body experience as he rounded the bases before being mobbed by team-mates as roars of “Freddie, Freddie” cascaded down from the sold-out Dodger Stadium stands. “It felt like nothing, just kind of floating,” Freeman said. “Those are the kind of things, when you’re five years old with your two older brothers and you’re playing in the backyard, those are the scenarios you dream about; two outs, bases loaded in a World Series game. In Football: Fenerbahce boss, Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands as his new side held his former Club, Man U 1-1 on Thursday to extend the English giants’ wait for a Europa League win. Man U is languishing in 21st spot of the 36-team table, with their chances of securing a Top 8 finish to progress directly to the last 16 - fading. In UFC: Australian Robert Whittaker’s undefeated UFC rival, Khamzat Chimaev was the last fighter to make weight for Sunday’s UFC308 clash - a UFC title eliminator. While most fighters went within the first 30 minutes, Chimaev did not appear until there was only 13 minutes to spare. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 20 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Wednesday morning 24 October 2024. Happy birthday Anee’ Roxburgh! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is mostly cloudy and a very cool 21 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England, will be played over six weekends of competition across the eight host locations, in what promises to be the largest celebration of women’s rugby ever. The biggest celebration of women’s rugby will kick-off with hosts England facing USA in the opening game at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on 22 August 2025. The majority of games have afternoon kick-off times, to boost fan and family attendance. In Rugby League: Broncos star Ezra Mam could be the first player to face the NRL’s new independent body, that will be in charge of sanctioning players for off-field incidents. New Head Coach Michael Maguire has refused to rule out terminating Mam’s five-year, A$4Million deal after he was involved in a two-car head-on collision in Brisbane on Friday night. The 21-year-old reportedly returned a positive result from a roadside drug test, however, no charges have been laid. In Football: Results of key UEFA Champions League games yesterday: Milan 3-1 Club Brugge, Paris 1-1 PSG, Juventus 0-1 Stuttgart, Arsenal 1-0 Shakhtar, Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna and Real Madrid 5-2 Borussia Dortmund. In Netball: The Diamonds will return from New Zealand with their Constellation Cup hopes hanging by a thread after Australia once again struggled in attack in last night’s 52-63 loss. It’s a worst-case scenario for the World Champions after another Silver Ferns drubbing – making it now eight straight losses in New Zealand. Maybe Coach Stacey Marinkovich – in her 50th Test in charge, should step aside. In Sports Biz: Juan Soto, born 25 years ago in Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic, hit a three-run homer to beat the Cleaveland Guardians in Game 5, sending his New York Yankees to the World Series to face Shoshei Ohtani and the LA Rams. The Yankees outfielder will be a free agent this offseason and could sign a deal worth US$500Million dollars. Only in the USA: Major League Baseball has got the World Series of its dreams with two titans of the sport meeting on the biggest stage for the first time in more than four decades, when it begins tomorrow at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The last time the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers met in a World Series was in 1981, so there is a lot of pent up interest and demand for tickets among their fans. The cheapest ticket available for all of the games at Dodger Stadium is US$1,074 while Yankee Stadium has standing room passes for US$896 before fees and seats starting at US$981 before fees, according to the New York Post. At the other end of the scale, a front row seat near the dugout will set you back an eye-watering $US30,000. Broadcasters are also licking their lips, with total viewership tipped to surpass this year’s NBA finals - which averaged 11.3 million viewers per game. Last year’s MLB Finals was a record low 9.1 million average viewers, watching the Texas Rangers claim their first World Series title, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks. And that’s a wrap peeps! Happy birthday Jon Apted! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a cool 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. Ruben Love In Rugby League: Life won't get any easier for Tonga when they face the defending champions New Zealand Kiwis in Auckland next Saturday 02 November in Round 3 of the Pacific Championships, getting a chance to right some of the wrongs of their first-up loss to the Kangaroos. Meanwhile, when the Kangaroos take to the field in Christchurch, it will be almost a year to the day since they were humbled 30-0 by the Kiwis in the 2023 Pacific Championships final, but Tom Dearden is adamant that the new-look Australians won't need to use that loss for motivation. In Football: Key UEFA Champions League games today: Milan vs Club Brugge, Paris vs PSG, Juventus vs Stuttgart, Arsenal vs Shakhtar, Aston Villa vs Bologna and Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund. In the NBA: October is arguably the month for sports - with the NFL and US College football in full swing, MLB’s two biggest teams facing off in the World Series, the NHL’s opening weeks, and the rise of the WNBA - the NBA season tips off tonight with the Boston Celtics hosting the New York Knicks. In Sports Biz: No. 1–ranked Men’s tennis player, Jannik Sinner won US$6Million at the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That’s more than any tennis Grand Slam paid out this year - the highest being at the US Open, where Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka won US$3.6M each. The other five players at the Six Kings Slam—Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev—each banked US$1.5M appearance fees for the weekend. Finally, only in the USA: Jonquel Jones was born in the Bahamas, moved to the US as a teenager, and lived with strangers to pursue a basketball career. On Sunday night, she won her first WNBA Championship with the New York Liberty, where Jones was named Finals MVP. And that’s a wrap peeps! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 18 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Tuesday morning 22 October 2024. Happy birthday Shreya Sharma, Raymond Stoddart and Diedre Fong! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a cool 21 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning. In Major League Baseball: The Los Angeles Dodgers, powered by four runs driven in by Tommy Edman, advanced to the World Series for the fourth time in eight years by beating the New York Mets 5-10 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday. So the Dodgers reach the Fall Classic for the first time since taking the crown in 2020 after winning the best-of-seven series 4-2 over the Mets, and will open the World Series at home against the New York Yankees, who own a record 27 titles, on Friday. “We really played well as a team,” Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani said through an interpreter. “I’m glad that we were able to pull through.” The Japanese superstar will play in the World Series for the first time in his MLB career. "It’s the place that I’ve dreamed of playing all my life,” Ohtani said. “To be able to finally come to this stage and be able to play and hopefully win it is my next goal.” In Rugby League: The Fiji Bati are not playing to their obvious full potential and the consensus of fans after their latest upset loss to the Papua New Guinea Kumuls, is that the Bati needs a top NRL Head Coach, like say . . Wayne Bennett with Wise Kativerata assisting and learning from him. Meanwhile, remorseful Broncos star Ezra Mam has sought “immediate professional treatment”, according to his management, amid conjecture over the future of his A$4Million contract. This, after he was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs when he was involved in a head-on car crash with an Uber driver last Friday night. Mam’s management on Monday night released a statement confirming he had “voluntarily entered rehab” that morning. In Football: Last weekend, while Arsenal’s title challenge slipped up, the Premier League’s leading two sides consolidated their place atop the table. Liverpool’s win over Chelsea continued Arne Slot’s fine start to life in England, while Man City were on the receiving end of a controversial refereeing decision that kept them within a point of the Merseysiders. In MMA: Francis Ngannou openly wept after he made a thunderous return to MMA on Sunday. The “Baddest Man On The Planet” was clinical in his first round KO win over Professional Fighters League reigning Heavyweight champ Renan Ferreira. The Cameroonian Warrior - a former UFC Heavyweight champion, wriggled out of a take-down and then got on top of his opponent, before unleashing a devastating barrage of left arm hooks, while Ferreira was powerless to stop them. In Sports Biz: The current collective WNBA bargaining agreement awards just 9.3% of their revenue to players, a deal signed in 2020, well before the WNBA consistently drew more than a million viewers for prime-time games. It comes as no surprise that the WNBA’s players are expected to opt out of the current CBA by the 01 November deadline. Their NBA counterparts receive around 50% of the league’s basketball-related income, but an increase to just 20% or 30% for the WNBA would mean exponential increases to their salary cap. Staying with the WNBA: The New York Liberty erased an early 12-point deficit and beat the Minnesota Lynx 62-67 in another overtime thriller to claim their first WNBA title in franchise history on Sunday. The Liberty won the best-of-five Finals 3-2 for a long-awaited breakthrough crown. They had lost five prior Finals and were the only remaining original franchise without a title. The Minnesota Lynx were chasing their fifth title, but Australian Lynx forward, Alanna Smith was ruled to have fouled Breanna Stewart, who then made both free throws to tie the game and send it into overtime. Much to the annoyance of Le Bron James, who Tweeted on X: “I’m sorry but that wasn’t a foul! Let the damn players dictate the outcome of a close battled tested game”. Me thinks King James must have laid down a big bet on the Lynx! And that’s a wrap peeps! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 17 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 21 October 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is mostly cloudy and a cool 21 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Netball: Australia’s horror New Zealand hoodoo rolls on, with the Diamonds suffering a record 14-goal loss to the Silver Ferns yesterday. Australia’s worst Constellation Cup loss in more than a decade at TSB Bank Arena in Wellington 50-64 sees Diamonds Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich slump to an eighth loss in nine games in New Zealand - and is the highest regular time score, ever set by the Silver Ferns against Australia. In Rugby League: Bombastic Fijian Wing, Maika Sivo’s time at Parramatta is drawing to a close, with the flyer set to reunite with former Coach Brad Arthur in the Super League. That’s according to Bulldogs General Manager Phil Gould, who said on Channel NINE’s coverage of Fiji’s Pacific Championships loss to Papua New Guinea that Sivo, is “close to signing over in England with Leeds.” Sivo is contracted until 2027 but has been given permission to seek opportunities elsewhere, as the Jason Ryles era begins at Parramatta. Meanwhile, Broncos superstar Ezra Mam’s A$4Million contract is reportedly at risk of being terminated, after he was involved in a car crash in Brisbane on Friday night. Police are awaiting results of a second drug test, after the Broncos playmaker allegedly failed an initial roadside test. Mam was hospitalised following the two-car collision and The Daily Telegraph is reporting Michael Maguire is set to clamp down on player conduct, ahead of his first season at the helm of the Broncos. In Football: Wolves drew first blood with Strand Larsen finding the net, only for Josko Gvardiola to level the score. Yet just when it appeared Manchester City might concede two crucial points after 95 minutes of play, up rose Center-back John Stones to seal the win with a headed goal from a corner. In Sports Biz: The latest Netflix subscribers total at 282.7 million, cements its place by far, as the largest platform in the streaming industry. Netflix reported third-quarter financial results last Thursday that included a 1.8% increase in subscribers, a 15% lift in revenue to US$9.8Billion and a 41% boost in net income to US$2.4B. Each of those measures beating Wall Street expectations, so big bonuses all round girls! In the NFL: The Green Bay Packers signed Kicker, Brandon McManus just five days earlier, yesterday afternoon the veteran was the hero; drilling a 45-yard field goal on the final play of the game, to give the Packers a 24-22 win over the Houston Texans. Green Bay won its third straight game and improved to 5-2, while Houston fell to 5-2. And finally in Boxing: Tim Tszyu’s boxing career is over after the Australian suffered a stunning third-round TKO loss to IBF Junior Middleweight Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in Orlando yesterday. Tszyu was handed a brutal reality check, with Murtazaliev dominating from the get go, knocking Tszyu down three times in the second round, with the Australian barely making it to the bell and checked on by the doctor before being cleared to continue. Oh boy Tszyu, you need a break in the sun in Fiji. And that’s a wrap peeps! Please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 16 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Sunday morning 20 October 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is exactly the same as yesterday – partly cloudy and 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby League: Nene Macdonald and Robert Derby starred as the Papua New Guinea Kumuls stunned the Fiji Bati 10-22 in their Pacific Championships clash at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday. North Queensland Cowboys young gun Wing Derby finished with a whopping 273M run to go with four tackle busts, a line-break and a try in a stunning display. Former Dragons player Macdonald finished with 233M run, 10 tackle busts, four offloads, two line-breaks and a try. In the Pacific Bowl Women’s Test, also in Suva yesterday, Samoa ended Tonga’s World Cup hopes with a 30-16 Pacific Championships win on the back of doubles to Sarina Masaga and Jessica Patea at HFC Bank Stadium. Meanwhile, on Friday night, Big Mal Meninga’s Australian Kangaroos centres, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Tom Trbojevic starred as a rusty Kangaroos outfit beat a brave Tonga side 18-0 in their Pacific Championships opener at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Tabuai-Fidow was a highlight for the Aussies finishing with 133M run, three tackle busts and a try, while Turbo Tom finished with 211M, three tackle busts and a try in a superb return to Test footy. Tom Dearden also scored on debut, with a four-pointer on the bell. It was an underwhelming start to the tournament for the Kangaroos, with plenty of room for improvement according to Corey Parker: “They’re a work in progress,” he said. In Football: Man U needed second-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund to come from behind and win 2-1 against Brentford, for their first victory in six games in all competitions. Under fire Manager, Erik10 admitted United were fired up for their second-half comeback, angered by the circumstances around the visitors' controversial opening goal, after Ethan Pinnock scored from a corner with a United player off the pitch receiving treatment for a head injury. In Sports Biz: Major League Baseball 2024 postseason Game 5 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres drew an average audience in Japan of 12.9 million viewers - the most-watched MLB postseason game in Japan. This despite a 16-hour time difference between Tokyo and the US West Coast that results in many games being shown in Japan’s early morning hours. The key driver of the robust numbers, of course, is Japanese-born baseball superstar Shoshei Ohtani in the playoffs for the first time in his MLB career. In the NFL: Seven-time Super Bowl Champion QB, Tom Brady will become a limited partner in the Las Vegas Raiders after NFL owners voted unanimously to approve the deal. Brady and his co-investor, Tom Wagner, will buy 10% of the team for US$220Million, valuing the franchise at US$3.5Billion. NFL Owners also awarded the 2028 Super Bowl to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The Falcons home facility, is also one of the host stadiums for the FIFA Men’s World Cup next year. And finally in Boxing: The Tim Tszyu versus Bakhram Murtazaliev fight in Orlando, Florida, USA today gets underway at 11am AEDT with a Super Featherweight fight between Roberto Raul Rivera Gomez and Martin Diaz. There are five other fights on the card, including undefeated Australian Mateo Tapia against Endry Saavedra before Tszyu makes his ring walk for a 1.30pm AEDT start to his fight. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 15 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 18 October 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is exactly the same as yesterday – mostly cloudy and 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning with sunrise at 5.35am. In Rugby League: Our tip for the Pacific Championship rugby league Test between Big Mal Meninga’s Australian Kangaroos and the Kingdom of Tonga, tonight at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane: We tip the Tongans to wallaroodedoo the Kangaroos. And for the Pacific Bowl Men’s Test tomorrow in Suva, we tip the Fiji Bati to razzledazzle the Papua New Guinea Kumuls, and the Tongan Women to googledoogle Samoa. In Football: France and Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe is being investigated for rape by Swedish police, according to a newspaper report in Sweden, following a visit by the Real Madrid star to Stockholm, which Mbappe denounced as “fake news”. Mbappe claimed in a post on X, that there was a link between the media report and his hearing before a French league committee on Tuesday, in his bitter dispute with his former Club Paris Saint-Germain over unpaid wages. Mbappe claims he is owed 55 million euros by the Qatari-owned French champions. “FAKE NEWS!!!! It’s becoming so predictable, on the eve of the hearing, as if by chance,” Mbappe posted. In Boxing: The intensity is building between Tim Tszyu and Russia’s undefeated IBF World Super Welterweight Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in Orlando, Florida, with Murtazaliev branding Tszyu an “idiot” and describing the presence of Tszyu’s Hall of Fame Father - Kostya, ringside as being no more beneficial than having Donald Trump or Sylvestor Stallone in his corner. In the NFL: After a horrific home loss to the Detroit Lions 47-9, the largest home loss since 1988, the pressure gauge has nearly peaked for Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy. Despite the “shocker” of a result on his 82nd birthday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed his support for McCarthy, saying, “I’m not considering that. Just so you’re clear, I’m not considering that.” That being firing him. So McCarthy is safe for now and at 3-3, the season isn’t lost for the Cowboys, with no clear side taking control of the NFC East. However, after the weekend’s disaster, it certainly feels like the bye week has come at a good time for the team. With that in mind, what changes are required for a turnaround in Dallas? Easy – hire Travis Kelce – right? You get a good defensive tight end, plus most of all, you get what’s her name? And that’s a wrap peeps! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 14 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Thursday morning 17 October 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning and sunrise at 5.35am. In Rugby Union: The All Blacks have made three injury-enforced changes to the squad for their Test against Japan and the Northern Tour. Ethan Blackadder (calf), Luke Jacobson (fractured thumb) and Dalton Papali'i (upper hamstring) will not be available to travel with the squad today due to injury. So 21 year old Hurricanes loose forward Peter Lakai and 23 year old Chiefs lock, Josh Lord join the squad. In Rugby League: The Tongan rugby league team to take on the Australian Kangaroos on Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane in the Pacific Championship includes an incredible backline featuring: Penrith grand final hero Paul Alamoti, Daniel Tupou, Sione Katoa and Moses Suli. Manly young gun Lehi Hopoate gets the nod at fullback, while Dolphins star Isaiya Katoa will wear the No.7 and Rabbitohs utility Siliva Havili starts at Hooker. In Boxing: Tim Tszyu has questioned if Russia’s towering undefeated IBF World Super Welterweight Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev is struggling to make weight for Sunday’s blockbuster in Orlando, Florida, revealing he has seen the champ running at night in a hoodie. Murtazaliev, who stands 183cm - nine centimetres taller than Tszyu - has said that he could move up in weight after defeating the Australian challenger, to chase the WBA Middleweight title. In the NFL: The NFL is riding the Taylor Swift wave. While their fan base has always been heavily female: 2021 stats showed women comprised about 46% of NFL fans, two years before Travis and Taylor linked up. But after Swift’s first appearance, the NFL quickly noticed that every game she attended, the broadcasts panned several times to show the singer and her friends. Embracing Swift’s presence immediately reflected in a spike in viewership. The second game Taylor Swift attended saw a 53% jump in teenage girls watching, compared to the first three weeks of Sunday Night Football. The figures reflected a 24% jump in women viewers ages 18 to 24, and a 34% increase for women ages 35 and older. In total, upward of two million more women tuned in than in previous weeks, NBC reported. And at the end of the regular season, the NFL measured its highest female viewership since it began tracking the metric in 2000, up 9% from the year before. Go Taylor Go Swiftees Go! Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 13 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Tuesday morning 15 October 2024. Happy Birthday Esther Heatley! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is partly cloudy and 24 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Jarryd Hayne is back in rugby league, with the former NRL superstar taking on a mentoring role with the Fiji Bati ahead of the Pacific Championship. Both News Corp and The Sydney Morning Herald reported the news yesterday, with the Herald reporting Hayne will work closely with Michael Jennings, Sunia Turuva, Viliame Kikau and Maika Sivo among others in the Fiji Bati squad. Fiji Bati Head Coach Wise Kativerata, previously played for the Bati alongside Hayne’s father Manoa Thompson, told the Herald he initially contacted Hayne after he was released from prison. In Rugby League: “I’m ready. If they throw me in, I’m ready to go. I’ve always backed myself playing footy. I’ve always backed myself going against anyone, so I’m very confident in my abilities to play,” Joseph Sua’ali’i is confident that he can handle the attention that will come with his multimillion-dollar switch to Rugby Australia - the biggest in their history. The former Sydney Roosters star, is expected to walk straight into the Wallabies Test team to play against England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland in November. In Football: Man City boss Pep G has admitted that "anything can happen" when asked about his future and links with the England Manager's job. England are currently searching for a new Manager after Gareth Southgate resigned following EURO2024 in Germany. Interim boss Lee Carsley has said that the job should go to a "world-class" Manager who has experience of winning trophies. Pep G certainly fits the bill after enjoying incredible success during his coaching career with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Man City. In Boxing: Legendary NRL enforcers, Gorden Tallis and Willie Mason have signed on for a blockbuster fight that will see one of rugby league’s biggest rivalries, finally settled once and for all, inside the boxing ring on Friday 29 November. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 12 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 14 October 2024. Happy Birthday Tahitia! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is mostly cloudy and 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union BREAKING NEWS: Rugby 7s global legend, Waisale Serevi has been hospitalized in Manipal Hospital in India with chest pains and diagnosed with unstable angina - his coronary angiogram revealed minor coronary artery disease. Thankfully, Serevi is now stable and has been shifted out of ICU. Keep smiling champ! In Rugby League: Papua New Guinea’s bid for the NRL’s 18th franchise received a timely boost yesterday with a gutsy 20-42 loss in the annual clash against the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII in Port Moresby. Inspired by a large and pumped up crowd, the home team burst out of the blocks to lead 12-0, with rising star, Judah Rimbu scoring after only three minutes, followed by Centre Robert Mathias slicing through to score out wide. Halfback Jamie Mavoko converted both tries before the men in green and gold started to find their groove and three tries before half-time, lifted the Aussies to a 16-12 lead at the break. Local fans headed home disappointed with the result but consoled by the knowledge that, if and when a PNG team is cleared to enter the NRL, there should be enough home-grown talent to be competitive. In Football: England cruised to a 3-1 win over Finland in their UEFA Nations League clash in Helsinki overnight. Three days after their embarrassing 1-2 loss to Greece at Wembley, with Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice all scoring. In Boxing: In the Beterbiev – Bivol fight in Saudi Arabia yesterday, Samoan-Australian southpaw Jai Opetaia, widely regarded as the best cruiserweight on the planet, took charge in the opening round and wore down Jack Massey whose trainer wisely pulled him out at the two-minute mark of the sixth round. Opetaia improved to 26-0 (20 KOs). And that’s a wrap peeps! Please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites. Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 11 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Sunday morning 13 October 2024. Happy Birthday Lute! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is sprinkling and a warm 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning. In Rugby Union: Fiji Water Flying Fijians Head Coach, Mick Byrne is reported as saying yesterday, that the selection of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians squad for the Europe tour in November, has nothing to do with the allegations of unpaid bonuses and corruption at Rugby House. “I’ll pick the best players to play for the country in the tour,” Byrne said, after retaining Waisea Nayacalevu as one of his two Captains along with Semi Radradra, Albert Tuisue, Jiuta Wainiqolo, Samuel Matavesi and Meli Derenalagi, who all backed Nayacalevu’s allegations. Interestingly, Fiji Rugby Union interim trustees Chairman, Peter Mazey is quoted as saying, “We (interim trustees) have no say." Mazey also said, “I can assure everyone that the Trustees were appointed to address these issues only 14 months ago.” So Peter Mazey and his fellow interim trustees were in place and in control for 14 months by the July 2024 northern trip by the Fiji Water Flying Fijians. The rugby fans of Fiji forgive them for whatever happened around the RWC2023, because they had only been in place for four months, but how do the interim trustees measure up on the July 2024 northern trip after 14 months in control of Rugby House? Meanwhile, an international arrest warrant was issued on Friday against former Wallabies Captain Rocky Elsom, who was sentenced in his absence to five years in prison by a French court for misuse of corporate assets. Charges were brought following Elsom’s spell as President of French club Narbonne between 2015 and 2016. Backrow forward Elsom, who played 75 times for the Wallabies, was also found guilty of forgery and ordered to pay back 705,000 euros. In Rugby League: The Fiji Bati host the Papua New Guinea Kumuls next weekend and the Cook Islands Aitu on 26 October in Suva, and Head Coach Wise Kativerata has named some of the NRL’s biggest stars headed by Viliame Kikau, Maika Sivo, Sunia Turuva and Tui Kamikamica for the Pacific Championship tournament. In Football: Former Chelsea, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich boss, Thomas Tuchel is in "advanced negotiations" and a deal could be struck for him to take over from interim boss Lee Carsley "quickly" as England Manager. Tuchel has regularly been linked with a return to England, with Man U also known admirers of the German, however, the Red Devils are expected to stick with current boss Erik10. In Boxing: Artur Beterbiev beat Dmitry Bivol on points over 12 rounds in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia earlier today to claim the undisputed Light Heavyweight World Champion title. One judge scored the fight a 114-114 draw. The other two judges scored the fight 115-113 and 116-112 for Beterbiev. Bivol connected with 50% of his power punches, while Beterbiev only landed 29% of his. Bivol landed 33 power punches over the first six rounds, while Beterbiev landed 23. However, Beterbiev turned the tide over the last six rounds by landing 67 power punches to Bivol’s 51. In rounds 11 and 12, Beterbiev landed 29 power punches, while Bivol landed 19. The combatants were separated by 4 or less landed punches in 8 of the 12 rounds fought. So it was very close. And that’s a wrap peeps!
