Steve interviews Richard Deitsch (00:14:09) from The Athletic to go over several different sports media topics. Deitsch returns for the second time this season to talk about Pat McAfee at ESPN, the value of sports packages to the future of the cable bundle, and quality of the top broadcast booths across the NFL. Richard and Steve also talk about their long history together, the tension between WWE and AEW, and the history of the wrestling business after the major changes this summer. Also, Marty Smith (01:15:18) debuts to talk about his book, Sideline C.E.O. Marty's second book is a collection of advice and perspective on leadership and success from some of the most accomplished coaches of the 20th and 21st century. Marty explains how the books came to be during the pandemic, explains why he chose a style similar to that used in oral histories, and shares the piece of advice in the book that he thinks will be most crucial to his own success. Steve starts the show with First Things First in a grouchy mood blasting the Atlanta Braves playoff performance, the New Orleans Saints terrible coaching, and the Buffalo Sabres poor start to the season. The book club resets for the rest of the fall with a book from one of the most important guests in podcast history. The show ends with one last thing about Steve returning to college for one last lecture from the greatest educator in his life.
