Art helps open our eyes to injustice and convey powerful new visions and possibilities. Renée Cox is a Jamaican-born African-American artist known for her provocative photographs, 3D visuals and multimedia videos that address racism and sexism in society. Her work is often described as controversial because of her interpretations with nothing to hide. She is known for using her body to celebrate black womanhood including her first one woman solo show in 1998, where she was the center of attention, as a black superhero, named Raje, a dynamic and powerful beautiful figure which heightened the visual impact of the work, making her politics clear and engaging. She has produced countless projects since, which are moving and thought-provoking including her solo exhibition this summer at Guild Hall in East Hampton, Proof of Being. Renée joins podcast host Cindy Glanzrock for a down to earth and revealing conversation about her storied career as an artist and how she continues to push the envelope using new technologies in the digital medium of photography, with “Soul Culture,” a new body of work which adds a new twist using 3D images, music - a Soul Cycle multimedia experience.
