Martial arts instructor, virologist, motorcycle racer, comic book expert, and last but not least business owner. These are just some of the ways to describe this episode's guest Thoney Phanlak aka the most interesting nerd in the world. That's not an exaggeration, how else would you describe a person whose story begins with a birth in a refugee camp in Thailand that involved the prince of Laos, who then went on to study and teach martial arts while also pursuing a career as a virologist that happened to be one of the first test subjects for the Covid-19 vaccine, all the while being a more silent partner in a business that involves comic books, vintage clothing, and other pop culture paraphernalia. Oh and that business just happened to have one of the biggest trade shows in the north east in recent memory. The term jack of all trades master of none does not apply to Thoney, instead he is a jack of many trades, master of many trades. In this episode Thoney and I discuss how the stress and issues of a 9 to 5 can help you deal with the stress of running your own business. How documentation, instructions, and processes are a foundation for business success. The benefits of working behind the scenes and being a more quiet business partner. And why turning your passion into a business may be right for some, but not for everyone.
