1 Amy Schumer & Brianne Howey on the Importance of Female Friendships, Navigating Hollywood's Double Standards, Sharing Their Birth Stories, and MORE 50:05
This week, in what might be the funniest episode yet, Molly and Emese are joined by co-stars Amy Schumer and Brianne Howey. They get candid about motherhood, career evolution, and their new film, Kinda Pregnant —which unexpectedly led to Amy’s latest health discovery. Amy opens up about how public criticism led her to uncover her Cushing syndrome diagnosis, what it’s like to navigate comedy and Hollywood as a mom, and the importance of sharing birth stories without shame. Brianne shares how becoming a mother has shifted her perspective on work, how Ginny & Georgia ’s Georgia Miller compares to real-life parenting, and the power of female friendships in the industry. We also go behind the scenes of their new Netflix film, Kinda Pregnant —how Molly first got the script, why Amy and Brianne were drawn to the project, and what it means for women today. Plus, they reflect on their early career struggles, the moment they knew they “made it,” and how motherhood has reshaped their ambitions. From career highs to personal challenges, this episode is raw, funny, and packed with insights. Well...the Rockies started the season 15-10 and have gone 15-30 since, so they're pretty bad. On this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we talk about some baseball things and why this team is so putrid and why there (Sadly) isn't a lot of promise in the immediate future to keep people involved or interested.
But hey, the Avs are in the Stanley Cup Final, and 80% of your #AskPDP questions were Avs-related in some form. So that's cool!

Let's face it: there ain't much to discuss with the local Colorado baseball team. They don't care about being relevant or good, so why should you? With that, one of our most (only?) anticipated shows of the year has returned for 2023. It's time to roast some bad TV commercials. This year, we have strong entries from the cell phone carrier market, a prescription medication spot that makes you want to rip your ears off, and surprisingly few contributions from the folks at car companies. It's the 2023 Holiday Commercial Roast Edition of the PDP! Deck the halls with it!…

The 2023 Colorado Rockies season is nearly a month old and is shaping up to be quiet literally the worst in franchise history. The Rockies are off to their second-worst start in team history through 26 games and show very few signs of anything improving. On that note, the Purple Dinosaur Podcast returns for our first episode since the holidays! This is a different feeling season for a franchise that has always been happy in mediocrity. There isn't a huge wave of prospects on the horizon. There isn't a singular star player worth the price of admission every night. And maybe most concerning for an ownership always bereft of self-awareness or concern is that fans seem to be tuning out. The Rockies' average attendance is down far more than any other team in baseball this season. What does it mean for them, and what does it mean for you? And maybe most importantly, should you care? All that and more on this week's (year's?) episode of the PDP.…
We haven't recorded an episode of your favorite neighborhood Colorado Rockies podcast because the Colorado Rockies are an incredibly boring, failure-ridden, non-aspirational franchise with no plan to get better in any measurable context, so...what were we going to talk about? THE GOOD NEWS IS that holiday commercials are somehow even worse than Colorado's baseball team! And we are finally back to discuss some of the worst among them for 2022. Whether you've been enraged by horrible wealthy people giving each other luxury cars for the holidays, moved to tears by irrationally emotional commercials for a grocery store chain, or unable to decipher what Jennifer Coolidge is saying in her "I couldn't possibly have tried less" Old Navy joint, we've got you covered. It's the 2022 Holiday Commercial Roast edition of the PDP! And we're the Antonellis!…

Over a month into the 2022 Major League Baseball season, the Colorado Rockies look like what most of us expected: sadly mediocre. Unfortunately, they're also not very interesting, which sucks. With Kris Bryant out, the Rockies' offense has slumped to extremely boring status, and Colorado's pitching staff has not held out, to say the least. What does it mean when Bryant makes his return as soon as next week? Plus, we discuss how little is coming through the Rockies' prospect pipeline, so...really not much in this episode is too optimistic or exciting! It's the 218th edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Spin it in a centrifuge and inject it into your injured limbs!…
Nearing the end of April, it's time for an actual baseball-talkin' edition of the old PDP! On this week's (month's?) episode of the show, we discuss the 10-7 start of your, my, and our Colorado Rockies. What's good about it? What's concerning about it? What's the likelihood they'll ever climb above fourth place again? Kris Bryant hasn't hit a dinger, and Kyle Freeland keeps getting rocked. On the other hand, Connor Joe and Chad Kuhl should be Hall of Famers in no time. We discuss. Plus, Major League Baseball continues to make everyone mad with its actual baseballs. What's the situation this year? We break it down. All that and more is on this edition of the PDP! Juice it or deaden it depending on your offensive needs!…

The 2022 Major League Baseball season is here! In this year's season preview edition, we take a look at the Colorado Rockies and how, though we've given up on them ever being a serious baseball franchise, they could once again be entertaining at the very least. From the addition of Kris Bryant to continued growth of players like Ryan McMahon, Brendan Rodgers, and more, the 2022 Rockies may at least be able to smack the ball around a bit. That'll be cool. Hopefully. Plus, we take your #AskPDP queries on everything from the best Food Network personalities to the idea of a salary floor in MLB. All that and more is here on the 2022 season preview edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Gulp it down in LoDo on Opening Day!…
The lockout is over, and the MLB season is almost here! On the very first edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast in 2022, we discuss the Rockies continuing to be the weirdest franchise in baseball by signing Kris Bryant to a monster deal for some reason! The signing is fun! It's also bizarre. KB will smack some monster dongs in Coors Field. That's fun! The Rockies also let Jon Gray and Trevor Story walk for nothing and did very little to improve their pitching staff. That's not. So it'll be a weird year! We discuss the change in mental approach to the Rockies as your favorite team and what these new signings mean about the future for them and for you. All that and more are on the first 2022 edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Smack it into orbit!…

Another year, another batch of absolutely terrible holiday commercials. The PDP's annual roast of the worst attempts to sell you crap for the holidays is here! While the 2021 contenders seemed thing compared to years past, we still found quite a few pieces of flaming advertising garbage to fill your hearts with holiday cheer. From Old Navy coining a new term to refer to the season to Kate McKinnon annoying the hell out of you while shilling Verizon to the dark and disturbing backstory of the family and the child in that Apple spot with the snowman held hostage in a freezer, it's all here. In the least surprising development in franchise history, the Rockies just handed the general manager job to the next office down the line by tapping longtime scouting vice president Bill Schmidt to construct and operate a major league roster, something he's never done before. We don't know, man! Maybe it'll work! Probably not! But we discuss that news anyway. At the honoring of Larry Walker and his Hall of Fame induction at Coors Field, Rockies owner Dick Monfort wasn't introduced to the crowd, seemingly deliberately. We discuss what that move says about him and the franchise. Plus, the Rockies didn't put out a qualifying offer to Jon Gray which means they now risk losing one of the most successful pitchers in franchise history for zero return. Seems bad! We dive in. And we're taking your #AskPDP queries on everything from the Jokić brothers to terrible holiday commercials to which historical figure we'd hire to run the Rockies. All that and more is on this week's episode of the PDP! Get into it!…

For the first time in human history, we are now living in a world with a Colorado Rockies hat atop a player's head on a plaque in the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum. Larry Walker was inducted on Wednesday in Cooperstown, New York, and on this week's episode of the PDP, we reflect on some of our favorite Larry Walker memories and more. Plus, it sure looks like the Rockies are going to hand their GM position to Bill Schmidt because they're reportedly "pleased with the job he's done," whatever that means. We discuss what that means for the franchise as it stays mired in mediocrity. Finally, we take your #AskPDP questions and roast perhaps the most requested Commercial Roast of the Week subject in PDP history. All that and more on this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Elect it to your own Hall of Fame!…
The MLB trade deadline came and went, and aside from reacquiring two players they've previously had in the system, your Colorado Rockies did...literally nothing to improve. We dissect how Bill Schmidt's inaction was so eminently predictable and what it means going forward for a team that doesn't seem to be serious about hiring any help from the outside nor about building a sustainable system for winning in Colorado. Plus, it's a two-fer on the PDP's Commercial Roast of the Week which you should really be excited about. All that and much more is on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. As the calendar nears mid-June, your Colorado Rockies have the second-most home wins in the National League. They are also on pace to be the worst road team in the history of baseball. On this week's episode of the PDP, we discuss how Austin Gomber might actually be good, how Charlie Blackmon may not yet be bad, how the Rockies ruined their entire crop of pitching arms from the 2015-16 draft, and a whole lot more. We also field your #AskPDP questions for the first time in a long time on everything from what the Rockies' City Connect jerseys could look like next season to why watching all of our favorite teams is absolute torture. Plus, we roast a nine-year old Coca-Cola commercial that still drives us up the dang wall. All that and more is on this week's episode of the PDP! Steal it off your roommate's plate!…
This week on the PDP, we're talking about the historic struggles of the 2021 Colorado Rockies away from home. Seriously, the Rockies are almost always bad on the road, but this team is on pace to be the worst team in the history of baseball on the road by a wide margin. We discuss why they're just so awful away from Coors Field and, well, we don't really offer solutions, but we talk about it anyway. Plus, Kyle Freeland and Brendan Rodgers are back. Freeland looked fine in his first start, and Rodgers has put together some early hits. We'll give you our thoughts on each and why a terrible team needs to be better about just giving its young talent consistent playing time to sink or swim. It's not like it's going to make this season any worse. Finally, we lay waste to a terrible Buick commercial on this episode's Roast of the Week. All that and more is on the latest edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Take luck and care! Take care of the luck that you might have! If you have luck, take it, care for it!…
Your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast is back after a week away so Anthony could so something pointless and easy like "move into a new house" or something. This week on the show, we talk about the Rockies' appointment of longtime scouting director Bill Schmidt as interim general manager and whether he's got the inside track to the permanent job in that position. Plus, are we witnessing the end of Charlie Blackmon while he continues to struggle offensively? Is Jon Gray now the Rockies' best trade piece? Will Trevor Story end up on the same infield as DJ LeMahieu again? Remember when we used to get to talk about fun and exciting things with this team? Now not so much. But it's all here on this week's episode of the PDP! Dive in!…
Well, Jeff Bridich is finally out as Rockies general manager. But in perfect Rockies fashion, he: - evidently quit of his own accord and was not fired - did so three weeks into the season, thus hamstringing the team for the remainder of 2021 under an interim GM - still traded Nolan Arenado We discuss what Monday's news of Bridich's resignation plus the appointment of Greg Feasel as team president really means going forward for the Rockies and if this is the watershed moment that will decide the next generation of this franchise's fortunes. All that and more is on this emergency episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Take two and call us in the morning.…

Nearing the end of the 2021 season's first month, your Colorado Rockies have their first series sweep of the year! Yes, it was just two games, but it came over the Houston Astros who deserve to lose every single game from now until like 2028. That part felt nice, at least. That sweep, the Rockies' first back-to-back wins of the year, put Colorado at 6-12 to start the season. That's not what you would call, you know, good. However, it has come with some good things, notably a strong display from the starting pitching staff. We'll discuss some of what has made that group good to start the year. Unfortunately, 6-12 also means there has been a lot of bad, most notably an anemic offense which feels from day to day as though it has one effective bat or fewer in the lineup. We'll break down what's going on with Colorado's hitters and discuss some of the team's frustration with a relief corps that hasn't held the line after starting pitching has enabled late-inning leads. All that and more is on this week's episode of the PDP! Talk to it alone in your place of residence like a lunatic in a Peloton commercial!…
The first week of the 2021 Colorado Rockies season is in the books, and with it came some monster news. The Rockies will host the 2021 MLB All-Star Game at Coors Field in July after the league lifted the game from Georgia in response to its new voting law and, presumably, the fact that no one wants to be in Georgia in July. How should you feel about the Rockies getting the showcase event for this year? Think of what it'll mean to your fellow Denverites and Coloradans. We'll walk you through it. Plus, the Rockies are 3-4 through their first seven games which is probably exactly what we all would've picked heading into their series against the Dodgers and D-backs. What stood out from the season's first week? We'll dive in. All that and more is here on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Pull out your '98 ASG Beanie Baby and tune in!…

For better or for worse, the Colorado Rockies have returned for another season, opening the 2021 campaign against the World Series-champion Dodgers on April 1 at Coors Field. But before we get to all of that on this week's episode of the PDP, we take time to share a heartfelt goodbye to one of the best members of the Rockies Twitter family. Ryan Blume unexpectedly passed away last week, leaving behind a wife and two young boys. We share our memories of Ryan, what he meant to the Rockies Twitter community, and how you can help support his family. A t-shirt designed by Ryan is on sale now at decoapparelco.com with all the proceeds going to help his family, and we'll link to the GoFundMe and other fundraising options for his family on our Twitter page when this episode is live. Look for our pinned tweet. We go position-by-position through the 2021 Rockies roster and give our thoughts. Not many of them are super exciting. Plus we give you our predictions for best- and worst-case scenarios for this team this season. All that plus three (3!) commercials get roasted this week to bring us over the finish line on a high note. It's this week's episode of the PDP. Rest in peace, Ryan.…

This week on your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast, we talk about that most recent super huge national media outlet about how terrible and dysfunctional and inept and hopeless the Colorado Rockies are and what makes this one different from all the others and how it's maybe even more depressing because of that. Plus, all the way from Taipei, journalist Vincent Liao joins the show to discuss the baseball odyssey of former top Rockies prospect Chin-hui Tsao from his status as young fireballing phenom to oft-injured big leaguer to suspected game fixer to banished competitor to possibly scandalous restaurant owner to blackballed pitcher and once again to a big league mound. You won't want to miss this interview. Trust us. It's amazing. AND ON TOP OF IT ALL, it's the first ever edition of the PDP's new segment: Commercial Roast of the Week! NO LONGER will commercials be getting off scot free from the harsh light of a PDP roast just because they didn't come out around the holidays. They're all in play now. The PDP is back! This week, we're talking about Ian Desmond's decision to opt out of the 2021 season and why you really shouldn't judge a dude for doing what's best for his family, like, ever. Even if he's a professional athlete. Even if you think he's not good at the sport he plays. Even if he gets paid a lot of money. With Desmond not returning in 2021 (probably), the Rockies are trying something radical to fill their first base position: signing guys who actually play first base. We take a look at C.J. Cron and Greg Bird and their opportunity to maybe be good (or at least not be dismal) at first base for the Rockies this season. PLUS! A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! It's the return of Purple Dinosaur Podcast merchandise (and more where that came from!) this season. CATCH IT ALL!…

Welp. It happened. On arguably (but probably not really "arguably" at all?) the worst day in franchise history, the Rockies traded perhaps their greatest player of all-time to the St. Louis Cardinals for a package of mostly anonymous prospects, a probably underwhelming big league pitcher who will be eaten alive by Coors Field, and oh by the way they shipped out up to $50M with him while speaking through the other side of their collective organizational mouth about how financial times are tough because of the pandemic and blah blah blah. It sucks, man. We try to put some thoughts into words. That's all we can do.…

So with that, we bring you our most grandiose episode of the worst year in our collective memory! This year, we are roasting commercials up and down the capitalist spectrum from RuPaul making your ears bleed with a holiday rap about pajamas that barely rhymes to Jeep attempting to sell Wranglers on the back of the pandemic to Snoop Dogg lecturing you about being on your phone too much. What happens with Nolan Arenado? What (if any) reasons exist to be optimistic heading toward 2021? The first week (? week-ish?) of the 2020 Major League Baseball season is in the books, and your, my, and our Colorado Rockies are 4-1 after their first road trip. Believe it or not, we are a week away from "Opening Day" of the 2020 "Major League Baseball season" which really a.) doesn't feel like it and b.) is sort of weird and guilt-inducing because of the current state of the country anyway. But it appears that it's going to happen, so on this week's episode of the PDP, we take you through a brief-ish preview of the season. Major League Baseball has a plan to return to play in less than a month, and that is the topic du jour on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. The exciting thing? Baseball! In less than a month! The scary thing? The road ahead is fraught with complications as the COVID-19 outbreak rears its head again across the country. We talk about some of the specifics on MLB's return to play plan including its medical elements, travel, and the risks therein. It's the newest episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. After a couple of weeks away, the PDP returns aaaaaaaaand there's still no baseball. But maybe there will be soon. Or maybe not! It's a fun guessing game that changes every four seconds or so, so at least we have that to get us through the days! This week, we discuss the latest entanglements of MLB and the MLB Players Association in trying to figure out if and when and how a season can be played in our Brave New World of a pandemic killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, 40 million out of work, societal upheaval, and more. The Rockies seem to have done well in the vastly shortened 2020 MLB Draft. We break down Colorado's six selections. Plus, we dive into your ask PDPs which lead us down a road of remembering guys like Ramon Ortiz and Jeff Fassero and also which Rockies player will get field mics cut the most this year with rampant profanity. All that and more is here on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Wear your mask! Still! Don't be an idiot!…

The PDP is back for another week in this pandemic world of ours that includes no baseball and yet somehow a bunch of baseball news. This week on the show, we'll discuss the latest news in negotiations between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association from the owners' most recent pay proposal to the players' nearly immediate and seemingly unanimous rejection of that proposal plus what it appears the players' counter will be. We also field a ton of #AskPDP questions from our top breakfast cereals to road trip snack options to which former Rockies manager would make the best president (it's not actually Jim Leyland) and what the Rockies' legacy as a franchise will be 30 years from now. All that and more is on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Reminds me of summer. Better flip that podcast, dad. You know how I like it.…

On this week's episode of the PDP, Anthony and Tyler dive into the latest news surrounding a possible return of big league baseball to a stadium possibly near you? But without you or us or anyone else in attendance? But still that sounds good? If money issues don't derail the whole thing? And you don't for some reason sympathize with the owners over the players? Because the owners agreed to something two months ago and are now trying to back out of it? Or not? It's all kinds of complicated! And two guys without legal expertise or financial savvy will attempt to parse it all for you! Plus, we field your #AskPDP questions on everything from how the Rockies let Roberto Ramos go to Korea to what a team of 25 Todd Heltons would have done in his prime. All that and more is on this week's episode of the PDP. Just because your state may be lifting stay-at-home orders doesn't mean you should listen to it in a crowded place! Keep being smart!…

Another week has come and gone, and your friendly neighborhood Colorado Rockies podcast is back to talk about the absence of baseball and such things. Plus, yes, we'll give you our thoughts on who you should be cheering for in the Korea Baseball Organization. All that and more is here on this week's episode of the PDP! After a week away for *things* outside of PDP-land, your favorite neighborhood Colorado Rockies podcast returns to kick off the month of May. This week, we give you updates on the latest news around any possible big league season in 2020, the cancellation of this year's Hall of Fame Weekend (meaning Larry Walker has to wait until 2021, dagnabit), and more. Plus, a bevy of #AskPDP queries arrives with you guys bringing the heat as usual, posing questions from our top quarantine beers and takeout meals to prospect talk and what Rockies uniform changes we'd like to see. We talk a lot about Shawn Estes in this episode for some reason. Remember Shawn Estes? He's back. In PDP form. On this week's edition of the show, we discuss MLB's participation in what seems like a fascinating study into how the COVID-19 virus has spread across the country and how that can help medical researchers and professionals plus we field your #AskPDP questions on the best one-year Rockies, who we thought was good at baseball back in the day who modern metrics would confirm was decidedly NOT good at baseball and a whole lot more. But we're here to try to distract you for an hour-plus and maybe bring a smile to your face here or there. This week on the show, we welcome Rockies fan and punk legend Jon Snodgrass for a lengthy and wide-ranging conversation. We haven't done a show in like three months, SO HERE IT IS, YOU UNGRATEFUL INGRATES. Just kidding, we love [most of] you. On this week's/month's episode, we try to break down what is going on with the Rockies offseason because nothing seems to be going on with the Rockies offseason! We figured we had nothing to talk about, and then we somehow talked for an hour about how absolutely nothing is going on with the Rockies offseason. But THEN, hooooo boy are you in for a treat. Anthony and Tyler long ago established their friendship on baseball and hating television commercials, and the back half of this episode is all about the worst holiday commercials of 2019. All that and more is on this, uh, winter season's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Use it to blackmail Santa Claus into giving you a luxury car you don't deserve!…
As the title of our 180th episode may have clued you in, ANTHONY'S BABY IS NEARLY HERE. So this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast might be our last while the 2019 MLB season is still ongoing. We'll discuss the impending terror of fatherhood for one of our hosts while the other dissects the various bids he's received to take out a dead tree in his backyard. Truly harrowing content. The Washington Nationals are headed to the World Series! They'll also have a lengthy layoff until Game 1 after sweeping their way through the NLCS. Feels like we've seen that story play out before, but for the life of me, I can't remember when or what happened and please no one remind me. Plus, we field your #AskPDP queries from the final weeks of the regular season and start to the 2019 postseason. The 2019 Colorado Rockies season has (mercifully) come to an end, but man the stories certainly haven't. In the first 48 hours after the conclusion to arguably the most disappointing season in franchise history, the Rockies announced an underwhelming extension of their extremely underwhelming TV deal that basically guarantees they'll still have among the fewest televised games in the big leagues, and their owner and general manager held a strange press conference in which they cried poor in reference to adding payroll for 2020, revealed odd details about Nolan Arenado's contract, and basically came across as frighteningly out of touch with external evaluations of the franchise's current state. So with that, we're back! The big league playoffs start tonight, and we'll give you our predictions for how all of that shakes out. It's a new episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! We'll always have The Tim Melville Game. This week on your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast, we'll take a look at the unlikely road back to the big leagues for new cultural phenomenon Tim Melville. From a high draft pedigree and huge signing bonus to a being a journeyman prospect to working at a barbecue joint to independent ball to Chase Field on a weird and fun August afternoon, Melville gave the Rockies -- and Rockies fans -- something to love this week. We'll give our appreciation for it. Plus, the final six weeks of the season can give the Rockies a look at what could be key contributors going forward. Will that be the plan? And if so, who should be getting looks? And we've got a surprise announcement about a Rockies organization member going overseas soon. All that and more on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Order it with your two meat and sides combination!…
The Rockies have won exactly 10 games in the second half since the start of July, but they brought a new wrinkle into the season with the introduction of the Cucarachas...um...meme? Identity? Gag? We'll discuss what it means for where the clubhouse is right now as the Rockies try to salvage something from this season and what it could mean about where the clubhouse has been throughout this season and this stunning regression. Plus, Dom Nunez has arrived in the big leagues, Jeff Hoffman continues ping-ponging back and forth between Albuquerque and Denver, and the best prospect talent in the system is still at the lower levels. How much should the final few weeks of this lost season go toward playing young players and getting a read on what this team will look like in 2020? The Rockies' season continues to slip away, and the boys of your favorite podcast are back to discuss as little of it as possible. Instead of re-crunching the numbers on what has gone wrong (basically everything), this week's show is heavy on your #AskPDP queries from how the Rockies can try to fix things over the offseason to kinds of dogs you'd rather pet and everything in between. Plus, we'll take a look at Major League Baseball's (very cool!) decision to play a game at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa next year and tell you that it's totally fine if you like that movie. Really, it is. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's the 176th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Drink it slowly as you wander Coors Field in misery!…
Well, here we are. The trade deadline is in the books. The Rockies are in last place. Apathy seems to be rampant among people who headed into this season full of hope that the Rockies would finally capture their first National League West championship in franchise history. There is major unrest in fans' perception of the front office. The clock is ticking on Nolan Arenado's post-2021 opt-out possibility. Things don't feel great. On this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we try to discuss, in some coherent fashion, what has gone wrong, why the Rockies didn't move anyone at the deadline (hint: nobody wanted the players they would've liked to move), and what's next for this team and this franchise. The funeral dirge music is back leading off this week's show which gives you a pretty good idea of our mood. It's the 175th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. We've missed out on recording two out of the last three weeks, but it turns out that the Rockies have been playing absolutely terrible baseball, so maybe it was for the best. On this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we begin with the news that former Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has announced his retirement from the game of baseball. We look back on Tulo's complicated legacy as a Rockies franchise pillar from his supreme brilliance on the field to the health issues that robbed him of too much of that time to his chilly reputation away from the game he loved. Plus, the Rockies have been terrible lately. Like legitimately, actually, 16-losses-in-their-last-20 terrible. Where does that leave them headed toward the MLB trade deadline? Not in a great spot at all. We'll discuss why and what it means going toward 2020 and beyond. Finally, we'll answer some of your #AskPDP queries from the best pizza toppings to why the Rockies keep coming up empty in attempting to find a long-term answer at first base. All that and more is here on the 174th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Package it in a deal for some under-the-radar podcast prospects next week!…

Your friendly neighborhood Colorado Rockies podcast is back and better than ever*! (*offer may not be valid or true) After our one week All-Star/illness hiatus, the PDP returns to get you set for the start of the second half. The Rockies floundered their way into the break on a six-game losing streak and now find three teams ahead of them in the National League West. Not only that, but the Trade Deadline is approaching, and the July 31 one is the only one now. What will the Rockies' approach be to try to better a club that, as of right now, looks like it'll struggle to make a third straight playoff appearance? What trade targets could be possible for the Rockies, and how likely are they to pony up the prospect price tag it would take to land someone big? Plus, we'll field some #AskPDP questions about when we'll retire (never, you poor saps) to which video game character would make the best deadline acquisition and more. All that and more on the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Purchase it at the fence location in St. Denis!…
Let's be honest: the Rockies' loss to the Dodgers on Thursday was frustrating. Their three-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers last week -- on three straight walk-off losses -- was infuriating. They've lost an outlandish amount of ground in the National League West race and may well be playing for just another one-game playoff to decide their postseason fate in 2019. But nobody cares about that. That's because this week, the Grand Junction Rockies took Twitter by storm with the most bizarre couple of tweets and reaction to other tweets that maybe any Rookie-level team has ever projected to the public. After a seemingly earnest fan suggested that the Rockies change their name to the Humpback Chubs to honor a local and once endangered species of fish, the Rockies took it to strange places on social media and then started swatting people down with blocks. We'll give you our thoughts on just how hilarious and absurd this whole situation is and how the Rockies can make it better. All that and more on this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Hey Grand Junction, whaddaya say!? The Chubs are gonna win today!…

The PDP is back for another week and with a new hosting service that means you might be listening to us on Spotify or a whole bunch of other places! And if you are, we thank you for doing so. And if you're not, why are you reading this? That seems like a weird use of your time. Anywho, on this week's episode of the show, we discuss the Rockies latest (!) sweep of the D-backs which runs Colorado's winning streak over Arizona to eight (!!) straight games for the first time in franchise history (!!!). Now the task gets even tougher as the purple strong boys head to Los Angeles to tangle with the front-running Dodgers in what is, on June 21, their first visit to Los Angeles this year somehow. This week, we break down Trevor Story's injured thumb and Nolan Arenado's injured big toe (the captain of the toes) as well as the DFAs of Chris Rusin and Mike Dunn. Plus we take a host of #AskPDPs and break down a certain commercial that has Rockies Twitter all aflutter. If you like the PDP, give us a good ol' five-star rating on iTunes so we can combat the Padres and Braves fans who got mad at us on social media and took it out on our ratings! And if you don't like the PDP, go give a bad rating to one of them and not us. All that on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! It's got that fence in the middle!…
With a Thursday night win over the Padres, your, my, and our Colorado Rockies have won 11 of their last 12 games at home and continue pushing themselves into second place in the National League West. A lot of stuff has been going right as of late. Charlie Blackmon is back to being Charlie Blackmon. Peter Lambert has been a terrific addition to the rotation -- albeit through just two starts. And it just never quite feels like the Rockies are out of a game at home, which is pretty dang fun. We'll take a look at some of what's propelled the Rockies to such a strong run at home as of late and how to keep it going. We'll discuss Colorado's suddenly strung bullpen and some of what has plagued the rotation in recent weeks. Plus, the weekly Kyle Freeland discussion is back after the lefty's second start with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. Hint: the numbers were ugly but the full scope may not be as ugly as it appears. Plus, what was the deal with that beanball war with the Cubs? That was dumb. We'll break it down. Kind of. Dunno, it was just kind of dumb. All that and more is here this week on the 170th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Put it on your elbow and hang out over the plate with it!…
The PDP returns for another week of Colorado Rockies baseball and hopefully will actually upload to your podcast feeds on time this week! Today, we're discussing a bunch of different things in a shorter period of time because Anthony had to go to work. But maybe that'll actually be good because we had to stay on topic rather than doing, you know, like a normal version of this show. Peter Lambert has arrived, and his big league debut was nothing short of masterful. The baby-faced assassin went seven terrific innings against the Cubs on Thursday, setting a new Rockies franchise record for strikeouts in a debut with nine. What can we expect from Lambert going forward? Where Lambert was starting at the site of Kyle Freeland's signature outing from 2018, Freeland could not have been farther away -- at least in baseball terms. Colorado's homegrown star was pitching Thursday night in Omaha for Triple-A Albuquerque and the results, at least numbers-wise, weren't that pretty. We'll break down why the numbers don't really matter right now in these rebuild outings for Freeland -- unless they start turning really good. Plus, the Rockies selected a million guys in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft this week. You may have been one of them! Studies show that over 87% of all Americans are taken at some point in the later rounds of the MLB Draft. We'll talk about the first three who came off the board under the CR logo and then really nobody beyond that because we're not that smart about them. All that and more is here with the latest episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Print it on a t-shirt and profit off someone else's ideas!…

With six wins in the first seven games of a 10-game homestand, your, my, and our Colorado Rockies are back over the .500 mark for the first time since they were 2-1 starting the season in Miami. And the way they've gotten there? It's not...entirely clear. The offense has been good! The pitching has been not so good! But sometimes the pitching has been good and the offense has been not so good! Whatever they're doing, it's working. Since starting 3-12 this season, the Rockies are 25-15, one of the best winning percentages in baseball over that span. There are a lot of good things to take away from the last several days of Rockies baseball, and we'll discuss them in such segments as our annual "Is Ian Desmond Finally Fixed?" segment along with "Ryan McMahon: Dreamy and Good" and "Tony Wolters, Mirage or Monster?" The Toronto Blue Jays and thiccccc Vladimir Guerrero Jr. arrive at Coors Field tonight. We'll talk about how Tulo was once a member of that team and apparently came back to Denver for an interleague series with the Blue Jays in 2016 that we completely forgot about. We'll also dive into your #AskPDP questions which include a discussion of how the Rockies were paying Mike Hampton until December of last year (!) and how Mike Hampton was evidently still in the big leagues as of 2010. The Rockies have played pretty middle-of-the-road ball as of late. After starting the season nine games under the .500 mark through their first 15 games, they're five over ever since. Still, there isn't a lot going great at the moment, and there isn't a lot going terribly. On this week's episode of your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast, we discuss this strange road trip, the Rockies' recent struggles with heaps of strikeouts, and the possibility that they can finally make up some ground with a homestand coming against some of the weaker teams in the American League squads. Top prospect Brendan Rodgers has arrived at the big league level, but with the Rockies continuing to run a maybe-not-full-healthy Daniel Murphy out to first base and with Ryan McMahon in need of starts and at-bats, too, where can Rodgers get everyday work? Plus, we take your #AskPDP queries on everything from possible trade targets to what the coolest future renovations at Coors Field would be. We had already planned to record the 166th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast on Thursday morning, and then we went into CRAZY HYPER URGENT MODE when the news broke that top Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers is reportedly headed to the big leagues on Friday. What does it all mean, Basil? We'll look at what Rodgers' brilliant start to the 2019 season with Triple-A Albuquerque means, how the Rockies can get him everyday playing time, and what the future looks like for the infield at large. Plus, the Rockies are coming out of one of the strangest two-game series we've seen in -- ever. We'll look back at the last two days in Boston, the bizarre 24-strikeout performance that still somehow turned into a win, and the fact that getting a split on the road is always the goal, and somehow the Rockies did that against the defending World Series champions. Plus, the Rox head to Philadelphia this weekend to take on the Fightin' Bryce Harpers. We'll take a look at Harper's recent struggles and what they might mean for the Phils going forward. All that and more is here on the 166th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Swing and miss with it! A lot!…

The Rockies are coming off an insane win over the San Francisco Giants in which they gave up 11 runs but still somehow came away victorious. We'll discuss Kyle Freeland's start and whether or not Rockies fans should be worries about where their hometown ace is at this point in the season. Plus, another division rival arrives this weekend for a three-game series at Coors Field. We'll run through the pitching matchups with the Padres and how this set stacks up for Colorado before hitting the road again. Also thrown in here, a discussion of what the worst lineup in Rockies history would look like which required way more thought and consideration than we anticipated. Your, my, and our Colorado Rockies return from a seven-game road trip to open up a nine-game homestand this weekend at Coors Field, and they do so at 15-17 overall this year. Last year at this point? They were 17-15. So basically, what we're saying, is that 3-12 start to the year that had us all tearing our hair out and losing our minds has meant virtually nothing. It also means that they're trending in a terrific direction as they return home for this season-long homestand. The Rockies have won 12 of their last 17 games and arrive at Coors Field with 22 runs over their last 18 innings, finishing off their seven-game swing away from Denver with two straight wins over the Milwaukee Brewers. A lot of things are headed in the right direction for this team, including its continued hot bats and steady enough starting pitching. There are still points to discuss with some areas of concern. Though Ian Desmond has shown improvement in certain categories, his overall numbers are still quite bad. With Raimel Tapia's ascension, has Desmond been relegated to platoon status? Tyler Anderson has scuffled mightily this season. As he gets the ball to kick off this nine-game homestand, is he pitching for his job? Who could potentially fill his spot if the Rockies have to make a change in the rotation? Plus, we take your #AskPDP questions on everything from a sequel to the Toddfather commercial to the Mount Rushmore of Denver sports to when Brendan Rodgers might make the climb to Denver. All that and more is here with the 164th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Use it to dig the mud out of your spikes if you're pitching on a rainy day!…

Your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast is back for another week, and your favorite baseball team looks like a real baseball team again! After nabbing the series finale over the Nationals on Wednesday, the Rockies have now won eight of their last 10 games since a 3-12 start. Some of the reasons behind that include: a resurgent Nolan Arenado, Raimel Tapia discovering himself as an everyday player, and solid pitching that has been steady on its rough days and great on its best. We'll discuss all of those elements. Plus, does Tapia's emergence mean that Ian Desmond is finally being pushed into a platoon or reserve role? That seems unlikely given the team's steadfast dedication to getting him at-bats and playing time no matter, you know, the results. But the Rockies' young outfielder is crushing everything thrown his way lately -- just like he did at every stop in his minor league career -- and making himself a viable option to be a big league regular. We'll discuss the strangely tepid start to the season for most every team in baseball, as well, and what the Rockies' next month brings schedule-wise for a team that opened April nine games below .500 and could finish above .500 with a strong run to the end of the month. All that and more on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Free with your subscription to Sports Illustrated for Kids!…
For the first time this season, we bring you an episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast with your, my, and our Colorado Rockies on a winning streak. After literally the worst start in franchise history, the Rockies have now won three games in a row and return home playing their best ball of the young season. Nolan Arenado is finally getting his bat going, belting homers over his last three games, and dudes like German Marquez are stepping up with huge performances. Better late than never, right? On this week's show, we'll dive into some of the positives of the last few games including Nolan's performances, Garrett Hampson and Raimel Tapia finding traction, and a decent early season showing from Tony Wolters both at the plate and behind it. We'll also discuss some of the things that are still a bit concerning with this Rockies club from Charlie Blackmon's struggles to Kyle Freeland's issues through his last three outings. Plus, a brief conversation about the new baseballs at Triple-A and how they're influencing numbers across the highest level of the minors. All that and more is on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Add it to your next tank of gas for cleaner engine performance!…
It's probably no stretch to say that this is the worst start to a season in Colorado Rockies franchise history, and that's because of one thing: expectations. It's also cool that SCIENCE released the first pictures ever taken of a black hole this week because that's pretty much what the 2019 baseball season has felt like so far. FEAR NOT, loyal listener! Things will (maybe?) be fine (or they might not be, actually). We'll discuss some of the reasons the Rockies find themselves mired in a 3-10 start, what is to blame, how to cope with it, and -- most importantly -- some ways perhaps to get out of it. There are still some positive things to look at in the brutal beginning to this year, so we'll put a spotlight on those for a minute, but yeah, everything else feels pretty rough. We'd love to tell you that this is just a blip on the radar screen and all will be well, but the thing about baseball is that you never really know how anything is going to go. That's beautiful when things are going well. It's agonizing when they're not. Still, we'll suffer (and hopefully cheer) through it all with you. Plus we debut a new segment called "Let's Remember Some Rockies" this week, which we thoroughly enjoyed and hope you will, too. It's the 161st episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Pull it out of the Nintendo and blow in the cartridge and restart it for hopefully a better outcome!…

Baseball returns to the Greatest Place on Earth (TM), Coors Field this weekend! That is the salve that cures all wounds which is good because the Rockies offense looked rather wounded the last week in Florida. It wasn't what you would call a great road trip through Miami and Tampa, but it also wasn't the abject disaster it felt like at one point. The Rockies will come home to Denver at 3-4 and get set to face the million-time reigning National League West-champion Los Angeles Dodgers. We'll discuss some of the things that seem to have plagued the Rockies' offense this past week from the injury to and absence of Daniel Murphy to young bats getting their first regular big league work to the fact that the Marlins and -- especially-- the Rays have some really damned good pitching. This week also brought the news of a contract extension for German Márquez, who has pitched quite well through his first two times out. We'll discuss that and break down some of the other items of note and concern and praise around Rockies pitching to begin the year. Plus a breakdown of Rockies Minor League affiliates' Opening Night rosters, a discussion on how annoying Bryce Harper's stupid bow is, and a debate on the merits of the extension economy currenly running through Major League Baseball. All that and more is here on the 160th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Happy (home) Opening Day!…

Another season of baseball is upon us. The winds and cold of a winter past are behind us, and the green grass and blue skies of the summer await. At least until, like, mid-April when some annoying blizzard forces the Rockies to postpone a couple of games but whatever. The 2019 PDP Season Preview Episode is here! We'll break down the Rockies roster position-by-position and give our thoughts on how they stack up with the rest of the division and the National League. Plus, we got a raft of #AskPDP questions in for this week's edition. I mean...not a literal raft, that would be a weird way to submit questions. but we got a bunch of questions, and we'll dive in. It's the 159th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Get up early on Opening Day and dunk your donut in it!…
On this week's episode of your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast, we talk a whole lot of baseball-related things that aren't even the Colorado Rockies! Either we are sorry or you're welcome. This week's topics include Mike Trout's insane extension and a larger conversation about the changing economic realities of the game that have led to things like contract extensions for young stars such as Blake Snell, Alex Bregman, and Eloy Jimenez. What does that mean for the Rockies and teams like the Rockies? We'll examine. Plus, the Cactus League is nearly behind us! What do spring training stats mean, exactly? Well...not much. But there are still some things we can glean from them. We'll tell you what they are. The Rockies entered the 2019 spring without a whole lot of question marks on their roster. That feels like a massive change from (checks notes) every other season in franchise history. We'll discuss a couple of areas in which personnel moves will still need to be made. All that and more are on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Call Mike Trout and see if he'll pay you for a copy of it!…

Yes, Manny Machado is now a Padre. Yes, one or two or three National League West teams are still in on Bryce Harper. Despite it all, Anthony and Tyler are oddly upbeat in the latest episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. On this week's edition of the show, we dive into Machado's deal and what it could mean for Nolan Arenado's extension situation with the Rockies. Plus the Padres are obviously a better team today than they were last week, but does Machado's signing put San Diego near contention in 2019? What are the odds Harper ends up in the division and, depending on which team it's with, does that shift the balance of power? Ian Desmond is headed to center field as Charlie Blackmon and David Dahl will flank him in right and left respectively. Just how much does that help or diminish the Rockies' defensive prowess in the outfield? And remember when we were all flipped out for 24 hours after a tweet that suggested Mark Reynolds was going to get a look at second base? Phew! That was a close one. It's the 156th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Slather it on your skin if you're headed down to the Cactus League to protect against that Arizona Sun!…

Less than a month remains until pitchers and catchers report to spring training, and YOUR Colorado Rockies have made one big (?) offseason move in signing noted controversy-free second baseman Daniel Murphy. In addition to not being a polarizing guy at all, he's going to be asked to play first base in Colorado, apparently, a position where he doesn't have aw hole ton of experience. So that's a thing that's gone on this offseason. We'll break down the Murphy signing in baseball and non-baseball terms and attempt to put into perspective what the last couple of offseasons in baseball say about the free agent market as a whole. Plus, the Rockies are headed for arbitration with Nolan Arenado. Is that a bad sign for his future with the organization or just the way this thing was probably headed all along. Finally, we field a bunch of #AskPDPs and try to imagine all kinds of dystopian futures where Adam Ottavino is a Yankee and Nolan is a Dodger and life is rendered meaningless. It's the 155th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Keep it under the tarp in your shopping cart for sustenance while traversing The Road!…
You, the loyal PDP fan, have been clamoring for a new episode in recent weeks, so here we are. And it's great to be here to talk about...??????? The Rockies have done nothing but hire a hitting coach and acquire a couple of minor league catchers so far this offseason, so we'll attempt to make some lemonade out of those lemons. But really though, what is the plan for this offseason? Will Jeff Bridich finally decide he's ready to trade prospects for established big league talent to fill yawing chasms of productivity in his lineup? Or will he stick with his young guys and maybe -- wait for it -- actually give Bud Black the go-ahead to play them in 2019? They've gotta do something! Plus, what does the Rockies' reluctance to discuss dealing Brendan Rodgers say about Nolan Arenado's possible future in purple pinstripes? Plus Larry Walker's Hall of Fame candidacy is finally getting its moment in the spotlight. While Walker might not make it into the Hall this year, his support is skyrocketing. We'll take a look at what that means for his chances going forward. It's the 154th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Wrap it up and toss it under the tree to be underwhelmed with it come Christmas morn'!…
The 2018 Rockies season came to an end in disappointing fashion last week, and after taking some time to cool down, the PDP returns for its annual postmortem. We'll look back on the National League Division Series and try to dissect what went wrong against the Milwaukee Brewers. There isn't much left to discuss about the NLDS, though, so this episode is a forward-looking one. The 2018 Rockies season was a success. It didn't end the way any of us wanted, but there's no other way to look at it than another step in the right direction. Even with that, the Rockies have many pressing issues heading into the offseason. We'll look ahead at some of the biggest decisions that are coming over the next several months before another big season opens in Colorado. All that and more is here in the 153rd episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Weave it into a nice pair of socks for the cold winter ahead!…

Welp, here we are again. Come Sunday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies will -- yet again -- be playing for their 2018 lives after dropping their first two games of the National League Division Series in Milwaukee. To get you set for Game 3 at Coors Field, we've got a fiery PDP. It'll start with us yelling to (and with...and at) you about some of the terrible takes regarding this Rockies offense. Colorado's bats have been nonexistent during the playoffs so far. Is that all Nolan Arenado's fault because he said in June that he wanted to play in big games and that's the one thing Denver sports radio has clung to from this season? No. Is it symptomatic of a mediocre offense with long-problematic fault lines that are being exposed on baseball's biggest stage? Yeah, that's probably more accurate. After we yell for a while, we attempt to get down to some facts and rational explanation as to why things could -- and should -- get better starting with Game 3. The Rockies won 36 of their final 50 games at Coors Field this year. They'll be throwing their two best pitchers in Games 3 and 4, and if they win Game 3, that includes their homegrown Denver native ace in Game 4 with a chance to even the series. If you're the Milwaukee Brewers, do you feel good about that matchup if you're unable to close this series out in three? We wouldn't. Finally, we give you some crazy predictions and try to laugh with you and get ourselves a little closer to yet another day watching baseball with our hearts in our stomachs and our stomachs in our throats and whatever else happens when you're watching what feels like the 1,000th elimination game in the last two weeks. It's the 152nd episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Let's do some more of these in 2018.…

For the first time in the PDP Era, as all things are and should be measured, the Rockies are on to a real postseason series, and what a way to get here. Kyle Freeland starred for 6 2/3 innings, Tony Wolters (!) (!!!) (Tony Wolters!) came through with a two-out, go-ahead single in the top of the 13th, and the Rockies took down the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field to punch their tickets to the National League Division Series. We look back at an absolutely insane game, some of its most crucial moments, some of its most pivotal decisions, and just how the Rockies made the impossible happen. Kyle Freeland announced his status as the Rockies' emotional rock with his dominant performance, but for the Denver kid and his childhood team, it meant more than even that. We'll discuss. Plus, just how and why did Nolan Arenado and Javier Baez end up hugging at third base?! (Aaaaaadorable.) With the win, the Rockies move on to play more meaningful baseball in 2018. The Milwaukee Brewers finished the season with the best record in the National League, including wins in five of their seven matchups with the Rockies. What does that mean heading into the best-of-5 series? It's Antonio Senzatela in Game 1 followed by Tyler Anderson in Game 2. Presumably German Marquez and Freeland will get nods in some order in Games 3 and 4. What will the rest of the staff look like? Plus there's just some general elation and babbling and honestly we blacked out from happiness for most of it, so who knows what else is in there. It's the 151st episode (and first playoff edition) of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Frame it and hang it above your fireplace!…
And it all comes down to this. After faltering in their pursuit of a division title this weekend and coming up short in yesterday's tiebreaker game in Los Angeles, the Rockies are once more relegated to fighting for their playoff lives in the Wild Card Game. We'll look back on what went wrong against the Dodgers, why Dodgers fans are so cocky despite needing a 163rd game to fend off the Rockies for the division crown, and what it means for the division. Tonight, Colorado visits Chicago for a matchup with the surprisingly-non-division-champion Cubs at Wrigley Field. Denver's own Kyle Freeland (he's from Denver, had you heard that before?) goes to the hill with his hometown team's season on the line. The Rockies have fared well at Wrigley in recent years. What has to go right tonight to save the season? There isn't much else to say for this one. Just try to enjoy the moment. It's sudden death baseball, and it's an EMERGENCY WILD CARD GAME FREAKOUT episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Swig some down to alleviate your nausea!…

Last week, after the Rockies were swept in Los Angeles and looked to be on death's doorstep in 2018, we hosted a show that featured a comedian and a whole lot of #AskPDPs so we didn't have to think much about how bad that series was and what it could have meant for this season. This week, things are just about as different as they could possibly be. The Rockies head into the final series of the season on a seven-game winning streak, with a magic number of 3 to clinch the division title, and facing a Washington Nationals team that is no longer in contention this year. More than that, they hold their postseason destiny in their own hands which is something we've not often said about the Rockies heading into the last weekend of any year. Sweep the Nationals, and you've won the division. Win two out of three from the Nationals and, if the Dodgers drop one game in San Francisco, you're division champions. Win *one* from the Nationals and, if the Dodgers drop two...well you get the point. It's all out there to be had. How did we get here from last week? What has clicked in this Rockies team? Just how scary are the Rockies going forward? What could a collapse that results in possibly missing the playoffs entirely (an actual possibility) mean for the Dodgers? We'll discuss. Plus we take some #AskPDPs because things are so dang fun lately. All that and more on the 150th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Breathe deep. It's going to be a fun weekend.…

Ah well, this sucks. The Rockies are 1-5 to start the biggest road trip in recent memory including a three-game sweep in Los Angeles that took them from a half-game lead in the National League West to a 2.5-game deficit. There's really no sugarcoating the fact that All Things Are Bad Again And Nothing Is Good. But while things are terrible for the moment, the season is somehow far from over. This Rockies team has been left for dead no fewer than a dozen times only to rally and shock us all, so do they have more left in them? We'll see. We attempt to help you forget your frustration this week by bringing on Andrew Orvedahl as our guest. One of the legendary Denver comedy trio The Grawlix as well as Coach Fairbell on TruTV's "Those Who Can't" attempts to keep us on the ledge by, you know, reminding us that the world will still exist even if the Rockies don't make the playoffs. Actually we don't really get that far into justifying a continued reason for existence as Rockies fans. Mostly we just joke around and try to laugh through our baseball-induced tears. This week brings some #AskPDP queries mostly around the tenor of "Why do we do this to ourselves?" which is a valid query and one for which we don't have a very good answer. But if the Rockies rip off an 8-2 finish to the season and run down the Dodgers somehow, you'll know. By god, you'll know. All that and more on the 149th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. The Spokane Spokesman Review called it "a true thrill ride!" while the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said, "It kept me on the edge of my seat until the end!"…

Kyle Freeland's brilliant 2018 season continues bringing people back to maybe its only historical comparison in Rockies history: that of 1994 starter Marvin Freeman. Well do we have a treat for you on Episode 148 of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. The one and only Marvin Freeman himself joins the show to look back on his sterling, strike-shortened '94 season that saw him place fourth in National League Cy Young voting and do things most people would now regard as impossible in the early days of the Rockies franchise. We'll rap with Marvin about that year, the Rockies' playoff squad in '95, his time learning from Greg Maddux and the rest of the '90s Braves, his reputation as a glue guy in the clubhouse, today's Rockies, what young pitchers need to know to be successful, the state of baseball in 2018, and a whole lot more. There's even a story in there about an $80,000 violin bow you don't want to miss. (Really.) After Marvin, we catch up with one of the unlikeliest Rockies in recent memory, reliever D.J. Johnson. After stops in four different Major League organizations and two stints in independent ball, Johnson made his big league debut this year. We'll discuss what it felt like to get the call and run in from an MLB bullpen for the first time. The Rockies are in control of their own destiny as we hit the stretch run in 2018. Kyle Freeland, German Marquez, and Jon Gray have been a large reason why, as have Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado. We'll talk about their terrific second halves but also dive into some resurgent Rockies like Scott Oberg and Wade Davis who have likewise been keys to the Rockies' first-place push. It's the 148th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Take a little velocity off and hit your spots with it!…

This weekend is the series you've always dreamed of. It's the final full month of the regular season, and your, my, and our Colorado Rockies are in first place and welcoming the Los Angeles Dodgers to town for the first of a three-game set. The Dodgers pushed back Clayton Kershaw's start to Friday to line up with Jon Gray. This is it. Everything is on the line over the next three weeks. This is the whole point of your fandom, so GET EXCITED, KIDDIES. We'll discuss Trevor Story's insane Wednesday night game, what's made him so good this season, and where the Rockies would be without him this year. Plus, German Marquez continues to be a star in the making and a worthy component in a potential postseason rotation along with Kyle Freeland and Jon Gray. Since we missed last week, we try to make it up to you in a weak way by answering a rash of #AskPDP queries from what times of day are sufficient to call "brunch" and what the most nerve-wracking games have been for fans in franchise history. All that and more on the 147th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Crack it open and sit poolside with it because summer ain't over yet!…
On the verge of an unbelievably perplexing and frustrating series loss to the San Diego Padres, the Rockies had their week saved by none other than Ian Desmond on Thursday. Desmond belted a walk-off homer to sink San Diego and lift the Rockies to a series win that continued a pattern of late rallies and thrilling walk-off wins for a Colorado team that now finds itself heading into the weekend just one game back of first place. That's the good news. The bad news is that it made us record a podcast, so you win some, you lose some. This weekend begins (stop us if you've heard this before) a crucial stretch for the Rockies this season. St. Louis arrives at Coors Field with Colorado eyeing retribution for a brutal road series a couple of weeks ago. The Rockies follow with road dates at Anaheim and San Diego. The time is now to continue the roll with a relative lull in the schedule. Plus, the Rockies brought back Matt Holliday this week! We discuss what the veteran's addition could mean coming off the bench and adding a potentially scary offensive threat to the lineup in needed moments. It's the 146th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Get into it!…
We'll get this out of the way early for Episode 145 of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast: the audio might not be our best. Tyler is still gallivanting around Panama and forgot both his microphone AND headphones, so there are some echoes and some Panamanian music in the background and just DEAL WITH IT, OK?! But hey, your favorite costumed baseball strongmen are playing well! The Rockies rallied for a surprising win last night in Atlanta, and with the comeback victories over the Dodgers, that seems to bode well for this team's immediate future. The win was engineered, in large part, by contributions from young guys like David Dahl and Ryan McMahon, suggesting -- hear us out -- that maybe they're good and should play all the time. With Ian Desmond struggling (again), the Rockies are coming to a critical juncture in the season when it comes to, well, everything personnel-wise. We discuss. Plus baseball is fun all across the globe! A brief discussion about he game internationally leads off the show, and we dive into assorted other nerdery and things vaguely related to the Rockies. It's the 145th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Forget it at your hotel and throw off your whole afternoon with it!…
With less than two months remaining in the Major League Baseball season, the Rockies find themselves at something of a crossroads. The Dodgers hit town for the biggest series of the season and promptly stole a game they trailed by two with two outs and the bases empty in the top of the eighth against Colorado's bullpen. Where do the Rockies go from here? Why can't anyone in the bullpen seem to get the job done with consistency? What does it mean for the future of the Rockies' organizational philosophy when it comes to acquiring versus developing pitchers? We'll discuss. Plus, Anthony is back from an international trip, and Tyler just left for one. Could it be that the Rockies simply want to wait to play their best ball during a time when both hosts of the PDP can be there to witness and enjoy it? It's as likely an explanation as anything else. (NOTE: It is not as likely an explanation as anything else.) It's brief (because Panamanian internet is unreliable!), it's fun (debatably!), and it's here (that's true!). It's the 144th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Get into it!…

The PDP returns with the Rockies fresh off a series split with the World Series-champion Houston Astros and set to welcome the scorching hot Oakland Athletics to Coors Field. This week, with a trade already in the books bringing Seunghwan Oh to Colorado, we dive into the deal by sheer coincidence. Our guests are Class A Advanced Lancaster JetHawks radio voice Jason Schwartz, who gives us his thoughts on former Rockies prospect Forrest Wall, dealt to Toronto in the trade. Later, we'll hear from Class A Asheville Tourists radio broadcaster Doug Maurer, who brought up Chad Spanberger before the trade was even a rumor. Jason and Doug cover a wealth of other topics about their 2018 teams this year, including the development of some impressive bullpen arms in Lancaster along with top prospects like Colton Welker and an Asheville team that has been led by an older core of players this season. We heard last week that sometimes our episodes get a little bit long and unwieldy, and so with that, we somehow managed to put together one of our longest episodes ever this week and apologize profusely for it. But there's just so much to talk about! The Major League Baseball season enters the second half tonight...although really, it entered the second half a couple of weeks ago. With the All-Star Game being pushed back, there are now just 11 days between the start of play after the break to the trade deadline. Will the Rockies be buyers or sellers? That's a topic to discuss. And discuss it, we shall! Anthony is gone for the next few weeks, so Tyler flies solo on Episode 142 with a trio of guests. The PDP begins a trip through the Rockies farm system by chatting with Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes radio voice Josh Suchon (beginning at the 6:24 mark). Josh covers Albuquerque's roster in transition this year, Jon Gray's brief return to the PCL, Ryan McMahon's recent resurgence and more. Then it's off to Double-A Hartford (47:14) where Yard Goats radio voice Jeff Dooley discusses Brendan Rodgers's terrific season, Hartford's young manager Warren Schaeffer, and some names to look out for that you may not yet know about in the system Finally, Episode 142 heads to Phoenix (1:04:50) where we find Friend of the PDP™ and all-around good guy Mike Ferrin of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM as well as pre- and postgame host duties for the D-backs. Mike gives us the lay of the land around the National League West after the Dodgers acquired Manny Machado as well as giving us a preview of this week's big Rockies-Diamondbacks clash in the desert. All that and more on the 142nd episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Spear it with a stick and roast it over a campfire!…

With their season on the line, the Rockies have responded with some of their best ball. That might all be hyperbole, but it doesn't feel like it. At the end of June, Colorado looked dead in the water in the National League West. What has followed is four straight series wins including a big series victory over the D-backs this week at Coors Field. We'll talk about the resurgence and what has keyed some of it. Plus, the Major League All-Star Break is later than ever this year. That puts teams in a bind when it comes to the trade deadline, which is just two weeks after the ASG. Will the Rockies be buyers or sellers, and with so many attractive sale pieces, could they still make deals to acquire young talent without it signaling they're throwing in the towel on the 2018 races? Antonio Senzatela is headed to the disabled list, and Chad Bettis's return from it will be delayed. What options do the Rockies have as their rotation hits a rough patch during this midsummer stretch? All that and more is here in the 141st episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Use it as an additive in your gas tank once a month to keep things running smoothly!…
A week and a half from the All-Star Break, the Colorado Rockies have rediscovered some winning ways. After sweeping the San Francisco Giants, the Rockies are back to a game over .500 thanks to six wins in seven games. What's keyed this run of success that feels much more like the team we expected in 2018 than the majority of 2018 has actually felt? For starters (heh), great starting pitching, but how much could be due to Nolan Arenado's recent comments regarding his state of mind in a losing franchise? We'll discuss. Plus, the Jon Gray Ace Debate™ hit a new level last week with the news that the Rockies were sending their Opening Day starter down to Triple-A Albuquerque. There, Gray dominated in his first start back in the Pacific Coast League, but what can we learn about his bizarre 2018 to this point in the year? And with the rotation surging since his departure, where will he fit when the Rockies feel he's ready to return to the Major Leagues? Your favorite costumed baseball men travel to Seattle for a weekend series in what is sure to be the politest series in the history of Twitter when the American League Rockies play host to the National League Mariners. Remember when Josh Fogg pitched a Maddux there in one hour and 52 minutes in 2006? We do, and we somehow both remember exactly where we were and exactly what we were doing at the time. We know you're dying to know, so we discuss that, too. All that and more on the 140th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Honor Josh Fogg and paint into your Dragon Slayer canvas with it!…

It hasn't been super fun to be a Rockies fan lately, and we recognize that. While we didn't necessarily think we were going to get to this point in a 2018 season that came with such strong expectations, it's time for one of those episodes where we just try to make you laugh. After getting some Rockies discussion out of the way early, we're off and running into a full #AskPDP episode that includes such topics as Are Uncrustables A Sandwich Or Ravioli? Which All-Time Rockies Players Would Make For The Most Uncomfortable ESPN Body Issue Participants? and Which Australian Baseball League Team Is Right For You? We do actually talk some real baseball in this week's show including what exactly the likelihood is that the Rockies are anything approaching "sellers" when the trade deadline hits, what that could mean for Nolan Arenado (nothing), DJ LeMahieu (possibly something), and Adam Ottavino (I'll die). All that and more jam-packed into the 139th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Take some awkward unclothed pictures with it!…
As the Rockies enter the final couple of weeks before the All-Star Break, they've elected to go with nine men in the bullpen and three on the bench, sending Ryan McMahon back to Triple-A a day after he saved their bacon with a three-run homer to sink the Mets. At this stage, with a bullpen that is historically bad, how much crazier could things really get? Should the Rockies test out something crazy like an opener for games, especially with their struggles in the first inning among starting pitchers? We'll discuss, plus what types of solutions could lie around for the bullpen (hint: there aren't many). Even with all the struggles, the Rockies entered their Thursday series finale against the Mets with a chance at a series win and sitting just 4.5 games out of first place in the National League West. We'll discuss some of the reasons behind their success, including Ian Desmond's surge and the rise (finally) of Tom Murphy. Plus, this weekend the Rockies will welcome in a host of former stars for 25th anniversary celebration festivities. If they were to celebrate the worst players in franchise history for Bizarro Weekend, who would those be? We debate. It's the 138th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Light it on fire and put it on top of a birthday cake!…

You can totally blame us. It's ok. The Rockies' offense is the best in baseball over the last 10 days. Unfortunately, their pitching staff has, in large part, forgotten to be good alongside it. That has proven to be a big enough issue that it's forced the Rockies well out of first place and into their roughest patch of the season. Will the return of Adam Ottavino be enough to stabilize the rest of the staff? If today's results are any indication after they cut the lead down to one run in the seventh...no. But tomorrow is another day. Jeff Bridich had some interesting comments about Jon Gray earlier this week. We'll discuss those and what it says about where the Rockies -- and Jon Gray -- are at this chapter in franchise history. (Hint: mostly positives!) Plus we field your #AskPDP questions from our World Cup cheering interests to what it would take for the Rockies to be sellers to what the heck "our ass is in the jackpot" really means. All that and more on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Strap it to both sides of your batting helmet for a convenient and stylish dual C-flap look!…
A true rarity in PDP history: a show recording DURING a Rockies game! And they were winning while we recorded! And then... On this week's edition of the show, we give credit where credit is due: Ian Desmond has been solid as of late. We discuss his resurgence and how it impacts the Rockies lineup in a positive way going forward. Speaking of resurgence, Carlos Gonzalez has looked like someone turned his internal clock back five years, and it's been among the most exciting recent developments in baseball. Can the 32-year-old outfielder keep it up, and what does THAT do for the Rockies lineup? And then there was that Dodgers series. Hooooo boy, that Dodgers series. We discuss at length, what it said about the current state of the Rockies (and the Dodgers) and what it could mean going forward. Good teams learn from their most embarrassing moments. Unfortunately, the Rockies' bullpen has had a lot of those lately. With the D-backs coming to town this weekend, the Rox have an opportunity to make some progress. Doing so will require better execution than during that Dodgers series (and the game during which we recorded this!). All that and more on the 136th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Write it on a piece of cardboard and carry it to the top of a 14er for a nice dating app picture!…

Is Jon Gray An Ace™ or is he not An Ace™? That is the question on the minds of some corners of Rockies Twitter, and on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we attempt to parse what is a complicated and layered discussion by pointing out one overriding thing question hanging over that question itself: what's the point of that conversation? If Jon Gray is An Ace™, then that's great. Everyone wants An Ace™ and would love for Jon Gray to be An Ace™. But if Jon Gray is not An Ace™, as we have been constantly told on Twitter he is not, what's the end game to that conversation? Telling Jon Gray? Applying for a loan at the Federal Ace™ Relief Department? Mining the South Platte for An Ace™? The conversation about Jon Gray needs to go deeper and showcase what's been bad and what hasn't been so bad. We try to shed some light on those things in this week's show. Plus, we all know that Rockies Twitter is not deserving of Connor Farrell (some might call him our own Ace™), but we have him anyway. Connor stops by the show to give his thoughts on Jon Gray, Kyle Freeland, the Rockies' start to 2018, and to tell us about his new podcast, "That Guy Sucks!" which you should search for and subscribe to right now. All that and more on this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Mix it up and stain your deck with it!…

Really! Though it feels like the sky is falling at times, the Rockies are a first-place team heading home from an acceptable, though not dynamite, 4-5 swing through nine games on the West Coast. This week, we discuss how it's OK to acknowledge that there are problems wth the Rockies and their current roster construction and how that doesn't mean that you're maligning how certain individuals on that roster are as human beings. It's at tricky concept, but hang with us. Plus, we discuss some doozies of #AskPDP questions from which Rockies would be best-suited to be in a modern day version of "Homer at the Bat" to what the best post-loss late-night snack is (booze) and whether or not Charlie Blackmon may one day surpass Carlos Gonzalez as an all-time Rockies great, which is a more difficult debate than you might initially think. As the Rockies continue to search for solutions at the plate that don't apparently consist of playing good younger players, we discuss what could possibly be done to turn "the team you know is gonna hit" into a team that, you know, actually hits. What are some potential solutions that lurk in Triple-A? Just how bad has this offense been from a historical perspective in franchise history? (Hint: REALLY bad) And while things continue floundering on the hitting side, what positives are there to look for from the pitching depth in the organization? Despite all the struggles, the Rockies are a game and a half out of first place behind the suddenly collapsing D-backs. If the division is really within their grasp, will the Rockies make any substantial moves to capture what could be their first National League West title? Plus, if a lineup comprised of the worst hitters in franchise history went up against a healthy Clayton Kershaw, how long would it take them to get a hit? Probably forever. All that and more in the 133rd episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Leave it half-wrapped on your bleacher seat in San Francisco and watch a vulturistic seagull fly awa…
For all the hand-wringing and consternation over certain things in Rockies Land, your strong, fighting costumed Colorado baseball men are five games over-.500 and positioned well right behind the D-backs in the National League West. The Giants are old as heck, and the Dodgers are dealing with injuries to just about anyone who has set foot on the field at Dodger Stadium. The Rockies, despite a struggling lineup and struggling bullpen, won six straight prior to a series-ending loss to the first-place Angels. Why? Starting pitching. The Rockies' starting rotation has been nothing short of brilliant over the last two weeks, featuring the best staff ERA in the big leagues. We'll discuss. The main theme of this week's episode is patience. The age in which we live, especially due to Twitter, makes it so we have to freak out at everything in the instant in which it happens. A baseball season is anathema to that. The 162 games of a baseball season are a looooong marathon, and being at five games over the .500 mark seven weeks in is a good thing because -- if sustained -- by midseason, that puts you at 10 over, and by August you're 15. See what we're getting at? The Rockies have played far from their best ball, and they're still getting good results with a good Brewers team coming to town for the weekend. And yes, we talk about Ian Desmond and why it's OK to feel bad for a guy who's struggling at his job even if he makes a considerable amount of money. It's the 132nd episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Toss it on the grill for a Mother's Day barbeque!…

The title of this, the 131st episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, could really be applied to any episode ever based on the feedback we get from listeners, but this time, it's in allusion to the fact that really nothing makes sense about the Rockies so far in 2018. They can't hit, and up until the last week they couldn't pitch, yet they head into the final leg of a three-series road trip with a 17-15 record. How...wha? Huh? Well, take it while you can get it because teams that win when things aren't going perfectly are a heck of a lot of fun to watch when things start going better. This week, we discuss a lot of topics but go deep on the decision to send Ryan McMahon to Triple-A Albuquerque. Why was that the move? What else can the Rockies do to try to jumpstart their offense? And how on earth is Ian Desmond still struggling this badly? Plus, the National League West is off the a strange start, as well. While nobody can seem to slow down the D-backs at the moment, the Dodgers have lost Justin Turner, Yasiel Puig, Corey Seager, and Hyun-Jin Ryu this year for extended stretches of time -- including losing Seager for the season due to Tommy John surgery. If the Rockies get start taking consistent steps forward offensively, can they distance themselves as the team to contend with Arizona? It's the 131st episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Melt it down and spread it on top of some taco's!…
We recorded a really great 130th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast this afternoon...or so we thought. Half of the episode didn't record. So here is the second take on that first great episode, and you know what? We think it's just as fine and dandy as the first one. It's a free podcast, you get what you pay for. But the PDP returns for the final podcast of April! This week, we'll discuss The Ian Desmond Conundrum and how long a big league lineup can continue to carry him on a day-to-day basis. Especially with the return of David Dahl (apparently real!) and what looks like a heating bat for Ryan McMahon (amazing what happens when you get regular playing time!) how much longer can Desmond continue to strictly hit grounders to the right side before he's rotated out of a regular starting role? The Rockies hit the road at 14-12 despite not playing anything approaching their best baseball as of yet. Jon Gray and Kyle Freeland looked great their last times out. Will that momentum spread through the rotation? And what's up with Jake McGee and Bryan Shaw? Plus a look at Jenny Cavnar's historic (and terrific) debut on TV play-by-play for the Rockies, including how you should feel about the trolls who try to tear a moment like that down. All that and more on the 130th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Toss it into your backpack and go on a nice spring hike with it!…

The Rockies are the owners of the worst-hitting offense in the National League. They went like 1-for-1,000,000 with runners in scoring position over the last two series. They have only gotten taco's once this year. Ian Desmond has three hits in his last 49 at-bats. Nolan Arenado just served a five-game suspension, and Gerardo Parra could be up next. Charlie Blackmon's leg is falling off. And yet they...just...won five out of seven in Washington and Pittsburgh? What? Things are weird but going pretty well for your strong baseball men in purple! Through 20 games, the Rockies are 11-9 and now 9-5 away from #Coors. Unfortunately, there are cracks in the surface. Nobody seems to be able to hit. The starters haven't gotten deep into games. None of that has proven to be a huge issue so far. We'll discuss a bit as to why. Plus we're taking your #AskPDPs on the lineup and bench, what video game we'd most like to play on the new board at #Coors, and food (always our fave). So Nolan nearly got drilled yesterday and then lost his dang mind, charging the mound to try to tear Luis Perdomo limb from limb. Perdomo threw his glove and ran away, terrified, as you or I would do, a move that garnered him "a ton of street cred" according to one dweeb in the San Diego media. On this week's PDP, you'll hear some reaction from Rockies manager Bud Black, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, and the man himself, contender for the heavyweight crown, Nolan Arenado. Anyway, the Rockies scored five runs immediately following the melee and won. Was that due to the fight? Eh, maybe. Are baseball fights good? Nah. We'll discuss. It hasn't been a terribly inspiring start to the 2018 season, and we'll try to lay out some reasons why. (Hint: they're not always going to hit!) Plus, Ryan McMahon is on the big league roster to open 2018 and is barely playing. We'll dive into why that seems like just an abjectly terrible idea. Alos, the Rockies announced Charlie Blackmon's extension last week basically right after we recorded and posted our episode, so of course we didn't get to talk about it. We'll explain our thoughts and hangups on said contract and also why it could be good. It's the 128th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Wad it up into a compact ball and chuck it at a friend!…

The Rockies are a .500 ballclub through four games which means the only reasonable reaction is rash, irresponsible takes about how they're either the greatest or worst team of all time. Unfortunately, we don't really excel at either of those things, so we're here to tell you what's going well this season and what could be going better. There's some on each side! That's how sports usually go! Ian Desmond's (relatively) hot start is something to celebrate, as is the bullpen's. Trevor Story is cold to begin the year, but it might not be as bad as you think. Plus, the Rockies are leading the Majors in home runs after four games, none of which came at Coors Field. So that's fun! We field a lot of #AskPDPs this week from qeustions about this weekend's weather for the home opener to food options at Coors Field that include a Rocky Mountain Oyster Po' Boy. Admittedly, this year's season preview episode is just WAY too long, but apparently some of you enjoy listening to this podcast which is weird but should serve you well for this one. We've got a jam-packed look at the 2018 Rockies and what to expect starting on Thursday when the season opens in Arizona! D-backs pre- and postgame host Mike Ferrin joins us to give the scoop on Arizona's offseason and outlook for the new year. Bryan Kilpatrick [formerly] of Purple Row also stops by for his takes on the Rockies heading into the campaign. The Opening Day roster and three-fifths of the rotation have been announced. We'll break down our own thoughts on Ryan McMahon, David Dahl, Ian Desmond, Jon Gray and a whole lot more. Anthony and Tyler thought they should do a podcast from Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, aaaaaaaaand that's about as far as they thought. There's some rambling in here about David Dahl, Ryan McMahon, and Raimel Tapia and who will be with the team on Opening Day (if anyone). Plus there's a bunch of stuff in here about the atmosphere of the Cactus League and what games during the month of March. Also at some point, a kid just starts FREAKING OUT CRYING, you guys. Seriously, he cries for like 20 minutes of this 35-minute podcast. It's ridiculous. We mock him at some point even though, you know, he's a helpless child who didn't deserve any of that. We're just terrible people. Plus we'll talk about when is a good time to start seeing steps forward from the pitching staff. That's about all. It's the 125th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Spring training baseball games are underway, and with that, the 2018 season is basically here. The Rockies are set to head into the new year putting the weighty responsibility of their starting first base on Friend of the Podcast™ Ryan McMahon. We love Ryan McMahon. Would the Rockies be well served to have a security blanket at that position, however? We'll discuss. Plus, the pitching staff is NOT a source of tremendous worry heading into the 2018 season which seems like the first time in franchise history that sentence has ever been uttered. Who are the early spring surprises, and who are some names to keep an eye on going into the new season? We'll discuss that, too! It's the 124th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. The Rockies' 2017 season is over with a bummer of a National League Wild Card Game loss to the D-backs, and that stinks. But you know what doesn't stink? The lessons of the 2017 season as a whole. For the last few years, 2017 looked like the year that could open the window to a strong run for the Rockies, and it played out that way. That's a positive no matter how you slice it. And we as members of the Rockies' Always Rational And Measured Online Fan Brigade are nothing if not positive. As we look back on the Wild Card Game, we'll dive into what went wrong with Jon Gray, what the comeback(s) said about the Rockies as a club, the controversy/non-controversy over the D-backs' Apple Watch shenanigans, and more. Plus half the League Championship Series field is set. Since the D-backs put up one heck of a fight in the Division Series, the Dodgers are the freshest team heading on to the next round. For the first time since we started this plucky little podcast -- the first and greatest Rockies podcast in history -- four seasons ago, the Colorado Rockies are headed to the Major League Baseball Postseason. Sure, it's only one guaranteed game. Sure, it's in Phoenix. Sure, it's against a team they've already played 19 times this year. None of that matters, you wet blanket. It's the playoffs, and the Rockies are in it. The first playoff edition of the PDP required the greatest episode in PDP history, and we are confident we have brought our A-game in that effort for you, dear listener. This episode is packed. You'll hear from Rockies ace and Wednesday's Wild Card Game starter Jon Gray. You'll hear from reliever Mike Dunn, who said he wanted to sign with the Rockies for just these moments. You'll hear from Kyle Freeland and Bud Black and Charlie Blackmon and you'll listen back to how things sounded a year ago with the heart and soul of these Rockies, Nolan Arenado. The D-backs are on tap, and we've got the authority on all things D-backs, Arizona pre- and postgame host Mike Ferrin, to break down the matchup. It's playoff baseball. It's playoff baseball. It's playoff baseball. It's the 118th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Pack it in your carry-on and take it to Phoenix with you!…
Holy smokes, apparently Nicole is really going to go through with this! Anthony's getting married to a good and decent human woman on Saturday! So on Thursday, we sat in the Arizona sun and sweated our faces off to basically bring you a podcast consisting of content along the lines of "hope the Rockies win." There isn't a whole lot left to say about the 2017 baseball season heading into its final 10 days. At this stage, they just need to win. Doesn't make for much exciting podcast material...BUT! We find some anyway. Anthony puts together a lineup of himself, Nicole, and his eight groomsmen (Tyler is the three-hole hitter but is relegated to DH). We also dive headlong into the Rockies' new videoboard and the issue of fan safety and expanded netting at Coors Field. It's the 117th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Stuff it into a tuxedo and walk down an aisle with it!…
This time last week, we would not have been expecting to talk about a 6-2 Rockies road trip through Los Angeles and Phoenix that started with a six-game winning streak and a sweep of the Dodgers, but here we are. The Rockies may well have saved their 2017 season over the last eight days, provided they don't screw the pooch over the final two weeks against mediocre opponents. We'll discuss what went right in Hollywood and the desert and how the Rockies may be able to sustain it. There are still, as Anthony eloquently put it, "areas of concern" with this club. Behind Jon Gray, who gets a nod in a postseason series should the Rockies make it that far? That's a muddled picture at the moment, but we'll discuss it anyway. Plus, Carlos Gonzalez status: COULD ACTUALLY BE HEATING UP. We'll talk about the Rockies star's turnaround, the possible reasons behind it, and its impact on the playoff chase. It's the 116th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Get it from a vending machine and put it into your backpack for later!…
We know you've been waiting a while for a return of the PDP, so here it is, with some international flavo[u]r. Tyler is off in Canada broadcasting some U18 World Cup baseball while Anthony is in the final run-up to his wedding day, but nothing is more stressful than the Rockies, who are doing everything they can to hand away a Wild Card berth while heading into the most crucial road trip of the year. We'll discuss why the team in the most offensively friendly ballpark in Major League Baseball history can't score runs and what can be done about it. Plus, some good news: nobody else seems to want to make the playoffs in that second Wild Card spot, either. So with that in mind, we'll look at the weeks ahead and why (hopefully) there are reasons to not lose hope. It's the 115th episode of the PDP. Drizzle some gravy and cheese curds on it and fry it up real good!…

The Rockies' most inspiring story hit its highest point so far when cancer-slaying hero Chad Bettis returned to the Coors Field mound on Monday and turned in seven shutout innings. It felt so much bigger than baseball to so many, and we'll attempt to break down our thoughts from that day. Plus, Bettis's return gives the Rockies something they have to be thrilled with right now: a full -- and strong-- starting rotation. With Bettis, Kyle Freeland, Jon Gray, Jeff Hoffman and German Marquez forming the group, Colorado now has its most talented arms lined up 1-5 and can utilize Antonio Senzatela and Tyler Chatwood in more clearly defined relief roles. With that, we acknowledge that the pitching staff has in fact been good this year. The offense has not been so. We'll discuss how things could improve in that area and what it means that the Rockies have played barely-above-.500 ball against arguably the weakest portion of their schedule. Plus we're sure there's other stuff in here that you'll like listening to! That might debatable, but hey who knows! It's the 114th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Grind it down to a fine powder and add it to your chocolate shake for a creamy malt mix!…

Thursday on Twitter, we invited you to submit your #AskPDP questions for this week's show, and boy oh boy, did you come through. You came through so much, in fact, that we decided this week's show would be nothing but your #AskPDP queries. We run the gamut of Rockies topics from why Raimel Tapia isn't an everyday player to how Pat Neshek's delivery makes him effective. Plus we dissect how "player to be named later" deals work, who the worst actor was to ever play a baseball player in a movie, who the best Rockies player to spoon with would be and more. It's a weird episode. But a fun one! The 113th edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast: boil it down and make a nice soup with it!…
With the Major League Baseball trade deadline in the rear view mirror, the PDP returns to review the movess the Rockies made -- and didn't make. Pat Neshek and Jonathan Lucroy seem good! The fact that the Rockies didn't overspend for someone else also seems good! What does it all mean going toward the stretch run? Who knows, man. Life is an incredible tapestry of mystery. Tyler Chatwood got the start for the Rockies on Wednesday and was...not good. Are there any ways Colorado can reduce his amount wof work at Coors Field (where he's struggled mightily) while still getting him starts on the road (where he's been very good)? We'll discuss. Last but not least, Carlos Gonzalez is riding the world's weirdest 11-game hitting streak. Is it a sign that, as we've been told since April, HE'S HEATING UP? Probably not, but it's a possibility! Or maybe it isn't. But it's better than 11 games with no hits which is what it's felt like for the majority of the year.…

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is just three days away, and YOUR Colorado Rockies have already made a pretty impressive move, acquiring All-Star reliever Pat Neshek at not-too-high a cost. What will the next few days look like, and how will the roster stack up come Tuesday? Enough of that craziness, let's get to the stuff you're excited to hear. Rockies prospect Ryan McMahon joins this week's edition of the show to talk about his blistering hot start with Triple-A Albuquerque, learning new infield positions, and why he had to spend a lengthy part of Friday morning sitting in the sun outside the drive-thru of an Albuquerque Starbucks. (Sorry, Ryan.) Plus, how long can the Rockies afford to keep a struggling Carlos Gonzalez in the lineup? It's...not fun. But we'll discuss. It's all on this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Fire up your monster truck and leap over it!…
We didn't forget about you over the last few weeks, but we apologize for the layoff. Either way, the PDP is back! Lucky you. This week, we're diving into a Rockies team that has played better ball since their homestand before the All-Star Break (although it would be hard to have played worse than they did in the losing streak leading up to that). The MLB trade deadline looms. What will the Rockies do? What *should* the Rockies do? What would you be willing to part with to reel in a contributing big league component to this roster, and is it all worth it while the Rockies play for a window of contention that lasts well beyond 2017? All that and more is on this week's PDP. Load it into your printer and fire out some missives with it!…
Things have not been what you, the viewing public, would call "good" lately for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball. Losing is afoot. Is the dreaded June swoon finally rearing its head to sink the early season good fortunes of the strong baseball men in purple? Eh, probably not. Sometimes teams play like garbage for a couple of weeks. The 2007 Rockies went 1-9 on a road trip and lost eight straight and still went to the World Series. Whaddaya want from me? We'll discuss why it's too early to FREAK THE HECK OUT about what's going on with this losing streak. There are things to be concerned about (we'll discuss those too), but the overall trend is still very much up for this team. Plus, a REAL journalist joins the show! Jonathan McNicol of WNPR in Connecticut joins us to talk about his podcast, "The Second First Season" which is currently following the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats through their first season in Hartford and second season in existence. It's the 109th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Melt it down and jump into it!…

So this whole three-team race thing doesn't seem to be going anywhere, yeah? It's nearly the end of June, and YOUR Colorado Rockies are caught in one heck of a battle with the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles for first place in the National League West. This week, we're diving into the heat of the race with D-backs pre- and postgame host and one of your favorites on MLB Network Radio, Mike Ferrin. We'll discuss the most recent couple of Diamondbacks-Rockies games, which we don't really *want* to do but do anyway, plus why these teams are built for sustainable success, the Coors vs. Chase debate, why there are so many more homers in the big leagues this year, and more. Nolan Arenado is superhuman. You already knew that, but Sunday's walk-off blast to complete the cycle took him to another level. We'll discuss Nolan's greatness and what it means for the franchise. Plus #AskPDP is back with questions ranging from possible trade targets to al dente pasta and more. It's the 108th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! The Rockies won a baseball game Thursday night in which their bullpen blew a lead of eight (8) runs with three (3) innings to play. Generally, that approach is not good, but it worked last night. While the walk-off celebration was fun for everyone who wasn't Giants broadcaster Jon Miller, did it unmask a soft underbelly in this Colorado bullpen that's been so strong this year? And, if so, should you be worried? And, if you should be worried, what can the Rockies do to address the situation upon the returns of Jon Gray and Tyler Anderson and potentially Chad Bettis? And just how many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Rly makes u think. Denver sports radio host Renaud Notaro joins the show this week to discuss what it's like being a Denver sports radio personality who actually knows and loves and understands and talks about baseball. Beyond his thoughts on the 2017 Rockies, Renaud also tells us what it's like the be the older brother of one of the greatest standup comedians on the planet and how he intends to save his adorable young nephews from being Dodgers fans while growing up in Los Angeles. Plus Raimel Tapia has finally arrived. In his success, the Rockies have been sitting franchise luminary Carlos Gonzalez. How long does that last on both sides, and what does it mean for the rest of CarGo's time in Denver? It's all on this week's edition of the PDP! Punch yourself in the face with it!…
In case you've ever wondered what it's like to attend a Rockies game with Tyler and Anthony, wonder no more. In a lengthy full inning of Wednesday's victory over Cleveland, the guys flipped on the ol' recorder and had at it. There are some thoughts about the Rockies in here. There's some cheering. There's a replay review to determine the outcome of a play we called correctly live from atop The Rooftop, like 500 feet away but an umpire at gorund level missed. (Replay got it right, by the way.) And there are passersby yelling profanities of one kind or another. It's avant-garde PDP! Get into it!…
Today is June 1, and your Colorado Rockies currently have the best record they've ever had on June 1 in franchise history. Read that again. Today is June 1, and your Colorado Rockies currently have the best record they've ever had on June 1 in franchise history. So why is everyone flipping out about a three-game slide? We'll dive into the psyche of why we're all afraid to love gain because we've been hurt so many times before but ALSO why this year's team feels different. Plus Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes radio voice Josh Suchon joins the show to give his takes on top prospects like Jeff Hoffman, Raimel Tapia and the newly promoted Ryan McMahon as well as surprises like Mike Tauchman and Noel Cuevas.…
It's getting close to the end of May, and they're still playing well. YOUR Colorado Rockies have the most wins in the National League and just finished yet another series victory away from Coors Field. This week, we discuss some of the reasons behind why that success is sustainable and what changes could be in the offing. Is Tyler Chatwood's rotation spot secure? After another shaky outing on Thursday, we'll debate how long his leash goes to stay in the starting five. Plus a lengthy breakdown of Chris Rusin's impressive role in the Rockies bullpen and how he's basically turned into Anthony's favorite baseball player of all time.…

The season keeps going, and the Rockies keep winning baseball games. This week on your favorite (?) Rockies podcast, Anthony and Tyler discuss Colorado's hot start to the season while doing it with an absurd amount more work coming from rookie starting pitching than any other team in baseball. Plus Trevor Story heads to the 10-day disabled list. We'll talk about some of the reasons behind his early season struggles and whether a similar move could be in the offing for Carlos Gonzalez as he continues to battle a slump early on. Jason Schwartz, radio voice of the Class A Advanced Lancaster JetHawks, joins the show to talk about a really talented roster in the California League. Jesus Tinoco appears to be back, having taken a perfect game into the seventh inning on Thursday night. Brendan Rodgers is REALLY back. The Rockies' top prospect is crushing the level after starting the year on the disabled list. All that and more on a jam-packed edition of the PDP. Cram it into your earholes!…
Hello, dorks. We're back. Even though baseball season was canceled after the Rox got obliterated by the Nationals at home last week, they continued playing games (wishful thinking or something?), and when they did, they played well! Colorado regurns home for a big three-series homestand coming off of series victories over Arizona and San Diego. We'll discuss their turnaround. We'll also take a look at Carlos Gonzalez's slumping start to the 2017 season ad what it means in the immediate future. Plus, despite their good starts to the year, are there reasons to be concerned about things we're seeing from Kyle Freeland and Antonio Senzatela? I mean...maybe, but we'll of course harp on them because without things to complain about, are we really Rockies observers? There are other things in here! I assume, anyway. Kinda forgot. But it's a decent episode! So tune in.…

Many people say the first 100 episodes of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast were greater than any first 100 episodes any other podcast has ever done. We've accomplished incredible, incredible things. Our next 100 episodes will be even greater, and it's going to be a spectacular, beautiful, tremendous achievement of love, people. We kick off our second 100 with one of the best minds in baseball, Jonah Keri of CBS Sports and elsewhere. Jonah goes from talking to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his own podcast last week to talking to us two morons this week in what is likely the greatest discrepancy in podcast quality for one man in human history. Denver's favorite adoptive son tells us about how dreamy and cool Trudeau really is in person plus his thoughts on the possible future return of baseball to Montreal, early observations about the 2017 Rockies and more. We're going a different route for our opponent preview this week. The Rockies hit the road to Arizona, and noted D-backs backer -- and future Mrs. Anthony Masterson -- Nicole Dimtsios joins the show to discuss her hometown team, their terrible song after wins, and why she doesn't think CarGo is the hottest Rockies player (it's in the hidden track). That Nationals series never happened. Don't worry. They struck that one from the record. But we'll still talk you off the ledge from it.…

So now that we've made it to the watershed moment that is our 100th episode, we have settled on one thing: it's your fault you still have to deal with this on a weekly basis. But hey, we love you for it! #PDP100 is here, and it's one of our longest (and arguably best) ever. Denver comedian Andrew Orvedahl joins the show to talk about his time growing up as a sports fan in the Mile High City, Denver's pipeline of successful comedians, why he has an allegiance to another National League West foe, and how that causes friction with his coworkers. And oh yeah, his coworkers! Andrew is one third of legendary Denver comedy juggernaut The Grawlix and, along with Adam Cayton-Holland (the PDP's first-ever guest all the way back on #PDP2) and Ben Roy (a future PDP guest), also one-third of the creative creators behind TruTV's "Those Who Can't" which returns for its third season this fall. Comedy, working in television, the Rockies, and his adorable kiddo's former YouTube cooking show are all on the docket for this week's episode. We're talking Clayton Kershaw and his FEELINGS this week as well as Trevor Story's sluggish start, German Marquez's shot at a rotation spot in Jon Gray's absence, updates on prospects like Riley Pint, Yency Almonte, and Mike Nikorak, and lots of other basebally things. Plus, we give you a snippet of our crossover episode with Beyond the Box Score's "In Play Pod(cast)" with Nick Stellini and Evan Davis. To hear the full show, go subscribe to their podcast. In fact, just do that anyway. They're great. We never would've made 100 episodes without you, and we love you all. Really.…

Barely over a week into the 2017 campaign, baseball season has come to a close due to the Rockies' first back-to-back losses and Twitter's subsequent reaction. But the good news is they've qualified for a playoff spot, so we'll preview that. PDP 99 is arguably our most unscripted, meandering, stream-of-consciousness episode, and to be honest, while writing this description, I don't even remember half of what we discussed. The Rockies are 5-3 and took down Clayton Kershaw over the weekend. That's good. I know we talked about that a little bit. They're also not getting much contribution offensively from anyone not named Mark Reynolds or Gerardo Parra. That's less good. We talked about that, too. What happens when David Dahl and Ian Desmond get healthy again? Is life just a futile pursuit of the carrot of happiness dangling forever out of our reach? (Yes.) Also, we somehow go off into the weeds for about 15 minutes dissecting the Troy Tulowitzki trade (again!) because of last week's deal that sent once-promising flamethrowing flamingo Miguel Castro to the Orioles. There are some #AskPDP questions in here. Tyler describes how he saw Denny Neagle at the home opener. Anthony talks about Greek Easter. It's really one hell of an episode for the Turk Wendell Edition of the PDP. Enjoy.…
The home opener is here. YOUR Colorado Rockies return from their season-opening road trip to Milwaukee on a 3-1 roll behind timely offense and a bullpen that has been -- dare we say -- #good. Now the home tests begin. Denver native Kyle Freeland takes the ball for Friday's home opener against the National League West-champion Dodgers at the ballpark where he grew up attending games. That's pretty cool. We'll talk about it. Plus, we'll give our initial reaction to the series in Milwaukee with discussion about Greg Holland's terrific start to his Rockies career, Antonio Senzatela's impressive big league debut, and more. Happy home opener, you mongrels.…

The 2017 Major League Baseball season is upon us which means it is nearly time to stare into the abyss of our own mortality and wonder why we bother caring about anything when love and happiness are fleeting emotions that will consume and destroy us all. Or HEY MAYBE NOT. The Rockies look like they could be good this year. Seriously. This week on the PDP, we're going long (literally, it's our longest episode ever) with the inimitable Jesse Spector for the national perspective, Bryan Kilpatrick of Purple Row talking Rockies nuts and bolts, and Beyond the Box Score's Travis Sarandos who gives us the view from the other side on Colorado's season-opening opponent, the Milwaukee Brewers. We had a ton of fun with this episode. Listen in awe as Anthony goes silent while watching the bees make their assault on Wednesday's Rockies-Padres game, and stick around after the show for arguably our greatest hidden track ever. The season has nearly arrived, and the Joe Beimel edition of the PDP is here! Get pumped!…
Hours from first pitch of the United States' first appearance in a World Baseball Classic championship game, Anthony and Tyler are live together in Los Angeles. The guys preview the Americans' matchup with Puerto Rico and discuss the tournament and atmosphere so far through two semifinal games at Dodger Stadium. Also, Nolan Arenado is going to be fine, you clowns. Plus, the Rockies got some rough news with the announcement that Chad Bettis's cancer has returned. A week into spring training, the Rockies have gotten their first hit of bad news. We'll discuss what that means for Colorado's Opening Day roster and who, if anyone, should play instead of Gerardo Parra if Dahl isn't 100 percent healthy by the start of the season. The World Baseball Classic's fourth installment is here, and Anthony and Tyler break down why people seem to be so averse to it despite their love for things like, you know, every other sport's highest level of international competition. Plus, we're taking tons of #AskPDPs this week, which you can always submit on Twitter or through the ol' email inbox. A sampling: is bread, once toasted, still bread? (Yes. Spring training is here and, with it, actual games are on the horizon. This week, Anthony and Tyler go long on the Rockies' strengths and weaknesses as camps open. Colorado's bullpen, one would think, will be decent this season, and after discussing newcomers to the relief corps last episode, the guys discuss returning players who could factor in with pivotal roles in 2017. The Rockies' minor league affiliates have a change this year with the Lancaster JetHawks in as the club's new Class A Advanced affiliate. Anthony and Tyler talk with Jason Schwartz, radio voice of the JetHawks, about the new affiliation, the changed landscape of the California League, and more.…
So the Colorado Rockies' bullpen was historically bad last year. In the interim, they've tried signing players to make it less bad. That, of course, has generated nothing but mockery from many segments of the media, both local and national. In this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we break down how the Rockies' relief corps could be (gasp!) improved in 2017 because of the additions of players who are less bad than good. Plus former Double-A New Britain/Hartford manager and 2017 Albuquerque hitting coach Darin Everson joins the show to discuss his last couple years heading up two talented teams in the Eastern League, his duties with the 'Topes for the new year, and much more.…

The Purple Dinosaur Podcast returns for 2017, much to your dismay. This week, we're talking Ian Desmond and how we were pretty positive we'd be talking way more than just Ian Desmond by January 3rd. But hey, we're not. Ian Desmond may well be the Rockies' starting first baseman on Opening Day, so I guess we all start getting used to that idea. What does it mean for the club, and what does it say about the front office and its plan for the future (or lack thereof)? Former Sporting News MLB editor Justin McGuire joins the show to discuss his new podcast "Baseball by the Book" in which he interviews authors of some of the best baseball books around. We'll also ask Justin if, as we fear, members of the national media look at the Rockies and go, "Yeah, nobody knows what they're doing out there." Finally, #AskPDP returns with new theme music and all your best and most pertinent queries. The answers are revelatory and include Tyler's wedding plans with Cecily Strong.…

Two years after we brought Craig Goldstein onto the show to preview his family's monumental pie collection for Thanksgiving 2014, he returns with a recap of Thanksgiving 2016. We'll discuss what almond substances are best use to adhere filings to crust, what a "black bottom" pie is, and other pie-related things. Also, we talk a few crumbs -- ;) ;) ;) -- of baseball with Craig, since he works for Baseball Prospectus. Included is a discussion of the now-agreed-upon Collective Bargaining Agreement, its major sticking points, and what things in the deal could mean going forward for labor peace in the game. The Rockies haven't done much yet, but a new CBA ensures the Winter Meetings will start on schedule on Dec. 4. Colorado needs a new first baseman and bullpen components. Could Chris Carter or Mark Melancon be in the mix? We'll discuss.…
The Rockies are headed into the meat of the offseason with a new manager. Former Padres skipper Bud Black will take the reins for 2017, making him the seventh manager in Rockies history and second with a name that's some type of variation on "Bud" somehow. On this week's edition of the show, we discuss the hire and what it means for the organization. With Black's experience as a manager, pitching coach, and pitcher in the big leagues, how will he approach handling the Rockies' staff at altitude? What about working with pitching coach Steve Foster and bullpen coach Darren Holmes, both of whom have been retained for 2017? Plus, Nolan Arenado captured his fourth gold glove in four big league seasons this week. We'll discuss just how rare that is and what Nolan's standing on the national stage says about him at this early point his career.…

The Walt Weiss Era has come to an end in Colorado. That's the big topic of discussion for Episode 89 of your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast. Who will Weiss' replacement be? What's his legacy as a manager? What does the move mean for Jeff Bridich? Also, David John LeMahieu won a National League batting title this week, which of course was cause for the Denver sports media to dump all over him and try to delegitimize it by questioning Weiss' decision to sit DJLM during the season's final week. Does it cheapen Deej's accomplishment? (HINT: Hell no, stop being an idiot.) Plus, we dive into an early offseason edition of #AskPDP in which we field some of our most ludicrous questions and spend an inordinate amount of time discussing if cereal can be considered soup. (HINT: It cannot.)…
Jorge De La Rosa's days as a Colorado Rockies pitcher are likely done. So are those of the Class A Advanced Modesto Nuts as a Rockies affiliate on the farm. First, we discuss DLR's complicated legacy. For nine seasons, he's been the Rockies' most consistent presence on the mound and has done things at Coors Field that no other pitcher has accomplished. Yet at 35, he leaves a Rockies team with a pitching staff full of young prospects eyeing the future. We break down what he's meant in Colorado and what the next chapter means for Rockies pitchers behind him. This week, we also look at the future composition Rockies' farm system. Now out of Modesto, does Colorado look for a return to the Carolina League? Plus, Nolan Arenado should be in the MVP conversation. He won't win it, but he should be in the discussion, at least. Anthony explains why.…

After a couple weeks away, the Purple Dinosaur Podcast returns to talk Colorado Rockies baseball and finds itself stunned that the Rockies have only gone 9-10 since the last episode of this podcast. That's strange because it feelsl ike they've gone 0-the century. This week, we're back to talk about Colorado's continued struggles against bad teams with Episode 87 coming on the heels of a thrilling three-day head-bashing at Arizona. We'll also discuss the rookie wall pitchers like Jon Gray, Tyler Andeson, and Jeff Hoffman appear to be hitting -- and why that's not necessarily a bad thing. Walt Weiss is also on the docket this week. Will the Rockies skipper make it through the 2016 offseason as the Rockies skipper? Also, did you know he coached at a high school before taking this big league managerial job? It's true! Finally, we'll take some #AskPDP questions, but none of you really took your assignment with those seriously this week. You've really just disappointed us and everyone around you. Just kidding, love you.…
You asked for it, and here it is. Tyler's traveling this week and Anthony's -- I dunno -- probably doing something, too. So no regular PDP for the final week of August. HOWEVA, for the first (and probably only) time, we're bringing you a throwback edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast with one of our most sought-after interviews. Back in the early days of the PDP, the world of podcasts was the Wild West. Our fancy new intro music hadn't been discovered yet, and you used to have to walk the podcast to the podcast station to be uploaded onto iTunes -- uphill, both ways, in the snow. It was in that unforgiving era that we came upon Adam Cayton-Holland, favorite son of Denver and perhaps the greatest Rockies fan you know. In March of 2014, when this interview was recorded for our second episode (the first we ever did on the PDP, by the way), Adam had just found out that he'd be throwing out a first pitch at a Rockies game in April, the culmination of a social media campaign united under the banner of #ACHFirstPitch. Since then, Adam has gone on to create and star in "Those Who Can't" on TruTV, one of last year's brightest comedy debuts that returns for its second season in October, as well as continue building himself as one of the top rising stars in comedy. We love Adam. Adam loves the Rockies. You should love Adam, too. He's cooler than all of us combined. So for those of you wishing you had a way to hear this episode: here it is. You're welcome.…
The Purple Dinosaur Podcast returns with not one but TWO (2) conversations this week, and you don't want to miss either of 'em. Top 2016 Colorado Rockies draft selection Riley Pint talks to Tyler from Grand Junction where he dishes on his first season in pro ball, Pioneer League road trips, what he's most excited about for his first professional offseason, and more. Plus Nick Stellini of Baseball Prospects, places elsewhere on the internet, and of the great Spoonerism names on Twitter joins the show. Noted Yankees fan Nick doesn't seem like the regular PDP guest because, you know, Yankees. HOWEVA, since we cheer for a team in a place where drafting and developing prospects was once called "a scam" by a prominent sports columnist in a city with too few of them, we discuss that philosophy through the eyes of a different system. If you're struggling to see the positives in what the Rockies are doing by building within, we use the Yankees' similar modern approach as an allegory to tease it out. Trust us, you'll be surprised by just how much the two franchises are on the same track. Just ignore the fact that the Yankees will have a quarter-billion-dollar payroll to supplement their developed stars because that part is depressing to us. Jeff Hoffman made his debut and flashed a lot of promise, despite his final line against the Cubs at Coors Field. We break it down and discuss the positives to an extended audition for Hoffman and his fellow rookie Tyler Anderson. All that and more comes your way on the 86th edition of the PDP.…

The Purple Dinosaur Podcast returns to talk about a Colorado Rockies team that has fallen mostly out of the playoff picture. It's probably because we all noticed and started talking about it. Dang. But hey! Still things to get excited about. Doug Maurer, friend of the PDP and radio voice of the Class A Asheville Tourists, joins this week's edition of the show to talk about the Tourists' 2016 season and dive into an evaluation of top prospect Brendan Rodgers's first full professional campaign. Beyond that, we discuss slugging first baseman Brian Mundell, struggling pitcher Jesus Tinoco, three-toddlers-stacked-on-top-of-each-other-wearing-a-trenchcoat Peter Lambert, and much more. Will the Rockies call up pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman? The answer is YES, but we didn't know that when we recorded this. So you'll get a lot of discussion of why the Rox will or won't call him up (reminder: they already are) and what it could look like if they do (again). Finally, we'll discuss what the Rockies' affiliate family could look like in 2017 with the club likely forced out of Class A Advanced Modesto via that team's purchase by the Seattle Mariners. Could the Rox head back to the Carolina League? It's possible. We'll break it all down.…

Yeah, that Nolan! Colorado Rockies third baseman and three-time Gold Glove Award winner Nolan Arenado joins this week's show to talk about playing meaningful games in August, the future of the franchise, being a leader at just 25, and more. We'll break down a rough week of Rockies baseball, including the mighty struggles of the bullpen in crucial games of late, but also give you reasons to feel positive about the way things are heading. David Dahl is on a record-shattering pace. Jon Gray is still an ace. They're playing ball at a clearly .500-or-better rate. On this week's show, we also attempt to answer the question of what the Rockies do with outfielder Gerardo Parra, who is healthy and off the disabled list but still struggling to find a way on base. Parra's rough season comes at a time when Dahl is breaking out and Charlie Blackmon continues to surge. What does it mean for the outfield picture going forward? Plus, Bryan Kilpatrick of Purple Row joins us to talk about the Rockies' 2016 season, look at what could be ahead for the offseason, discuss Walt Weiss' current status as manager, and much more.…
Holy cow, you guys, the Colorado Rockies are playoff contenders in August of 2016. How did we get here? How long will it last? What will our crushing depression do to us in the inevitable event that they don't win the World Series? On the 83rd episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we attempt to answer all those questions and more. Jon Gray and Tyler Anderson have been eye-openers. How? David Dahl refuses to go a game without getting at least one hit. How? Also, why does he have to be so good looking Is Walt Weiss a competent manager now? If so, what does that mean? Trevor Story is out for the rest of the (regular) season, but can the Rockies replace his production with a rebounding Nolan Arenado and a surging Carlos Gonzalez? Plus Richard Bergstrom from Rockies Zingers joins the show to offer up his takes on the Rockies' inaction at the trade deadline, what has made Colorado's pitching staff successful in recent weeks, and what he'd do in the 2016-17 offseason. STOP FREAKING OUT, OK? THEY'RE CONTENDING, AND NONE OF US KNOWS HOW TO HANDLE IT, BUT JUST STOP FREAKING OUT.…

Last season, the Colorado Rockies won their 49th game to pull within 21 games of an even record at 49-70. Last night, they won their 49th to pull to 49-52. Progress is here, and its name is Jon Gray. Actually Jon Gray is just one of many pieces, and we'll discuss his ace-like performance for 2016, David Dahl, the Rockies' successes in pitching -- and winning -- on the road this season and much more in the 82nd edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. PLUS, Craig Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus joins the show. We talk a bit of Dahl, a bit of Brendan Rodgers, a bit of Jeff Hoffman, and a whole hell of a lot more that has nothing to do with baseball in our longest PDP interview ever. Come for the analysis, stay for the riveting coverage of '90s sitcom crossovers, a stirring game of "Which Golden Girl Are You?" and Anthony's surprising knowledge of boy bands.…

Nearing August, the Colorado Rockies are falling out of any sort of meaningful conversation in the 2016 season which is basically what we all expected. But hey, that's not necessarily a bad thing. In the 81st edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, Anthony and Tyler break down what a selling mindset could mean for the Rockies as the MLB non-waiver trade deadline approaches on August 1. Plus Purple Row's Chris Jackson joins the show from Albuquerque, and the guys go long discussing Jeff Hoffman, David Dahl, Tommy Murphy, and much more. Also, we explain where the term "bush league" came from, just because we can, and explain just how ugly the seasons have been for the only two teams below the Rockies in the National League West.…

Bobby DeMuro is one of the scribes at noted Rockies $hill site Purple Row, and he was so kind as to join us for the 80th edition of this noted Rockies $hill podcast. Inside, you'll find all kinds of goodies about the Modesto Nuts, like Tyler Matzek's journey through rediscovering himself, top prospects such as Dom Nunez and Forrest Wall, and more. Plus, Bobby reveals if he'd rather fight 100 duck-sized Anthonys or one Anthony-sized duck and answers the question that spawned the headline to this episode. After visiting with Bobby, we dive into a topic we've been teasing for a bit. Rockies fans exist outside of Colorado (really!) and even outside the United States (seriously!). We had some of those brave souls tell us why they'd subject themselves to the torture of being fans of this team, and their stories are pretty awesome…

We recorded a really good version of this episode today until we got finished with it and realized that the recording didn't work. So what you're getting is the shorter, probably not-quite-as-good edition of this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Consider yourselves lucky. JUST KIDDING, we've got a ton on the show for you this week, our first episode back after a three-week hiatus due to Anthony getting engaged and then leaving the country without his fiancee becuase he's sweet like that. Inside, we talk about Trevor Story's predictable All-Star Game snub because the Final Vote is stupid, Carlos Gonzalez's trade demand meeting that never occurred, Tyler Anderson's historic start, Adam Ottavino's remarkable return from Tommy John surgery, and much more. We spent like six hours recording this nonsense today to bring you an hour's worth of beautiful, sweet content. So enjoy! Hope it doesn't suck for you. But, as always, we make no guarantees.…
We recorded the 78th episode of this Colorado Rockies baseball podcast prior to the official word coming down about the Rockies' decision on Jose Reyes. And in this episode, we explain all the options laid out before the Rockies and why they would likely not DFA him. And then they DFA'd him. ¯\_(?)_/¯ Nobody ever accused us of being smart. But HEY, there's lots of other fun stuff in this episode including a look at the Rockies' options on the roster in light of Gerardo Parra's injury and possible DL stint, the successful run of the rotation over the last 10 days, Tyler Anderson's debut, the signing of first-round pick Riley Pint and more. Plus we take your PDP questions on everything from walk-up songs and visiting fans at Coors Field to fast food restaurants and more!…

After checking in on the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes last week, we continue down the Colorado Rockies affiliate chain on the 77th edition of this here baseball podcast. The Rockies continue to pitch impressively on the road and play confoundingly at home. Anthony and Tyler try to dissect why that is as well as offer some signs of strong encouragement in guys like Jon Gray, Tyler Chatwood, and even Eddie Butler. Plus, the MLB Draft is this weekend. Since it'll probably be over by the time you listen to this, we don't discuss it much. But there's some Draft conversation in there too. So. There.…

Plus, Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes broadcaster Josh Suchon joins the show prior to a 'Topes doubleheader to talk about a host of topics from Jeff Hoffman, Tyler Anderson, and Jordan Patterson to the revolving door of rehab appearances for Rockies players in Albuquerque and life as a Pacific Coast League radio guy. After weeks of saying they would, Tyler and Anthony FINALLY take some of your #AskPDP questions from hats to home/road platoon lineups to the possibility of a reverse Coors Field effect in national hype if the Rockies ever had a full-blown ace. We discuss why maybe you shouldn't feel too terrible about the last two weeks of Rockies baseball. On the other hand, there are Jorge De La Rosa and Jordan Lyles, two things we should all feel very bad about. What are the next steps for each rotation veteran, and where do the Rockies go from here with their starters? As always, minor league updates are in the offing with a very promising return from Double-A right-hander Antonio Senzatela, Brendan Rodgers set to come off the disabled list, encouraging signs from Tylers (both Anderson and Matzek) and more.…

We made sure to record the 74th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast prior to the official news about Jose Reyes's discipline coming down. That was smart of us. BUT we still have all kinds of talk about Jose Reyes, the potential of offloading him and/or his contract, and how the trade looks now. It's mid-May, and the Colorado Rockies are hanging around in the National League West due to a strange season of baseball in which they're good on the road and terrible at home. So that makes sense. We'll try to explain why, but it's a tough question to tackle. Outside of Colorado, Troy Tulowitzki and Corey Dickerson have not been what a neutral observer would call "good" this season. Is it possible the Rockies knew what they were doing with both trades? We'll debate and discuss as well as look at where Colorado's return currently is form those deals. Plus Rockies first baseman/outfielder Benjamin Paulsen joins the show! Shortly after we recorded, he was sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque. Sorry, Ben. We'll take the blame for that.…
We feel comfortable saying it: what you are about to listen to is the most adorable edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast yet. Mother's Day arrives on Sunday, and to celebrate, we're talking to A MOM! Tyler's mom Lucille joins us to discuss her memories of growing up a baseball fan in New York City when the Big Apple sported not one, not two, but three big league clubs as well as give her memories of the Rockies' arrival in Colorado and a scouting report on her son's (non-existent) high school baseball prowess. There's a whole lot more in this jam-packed edition of the show, too! We're talking Colorado Rockies baseball from the top down with a recap of Thursday's ridiculous 13-run inning in San Francisco, Hartford's basically unbelievable pitching staff, Brendan Rodgers and Jeff Hoffman continuing to wreck their respective levels, and a lot more. Keep your voices down. Put that beer away. And for God's sake, put a tie on and comb your hair. There are moms here.…

Hey, but Brendan Rodgers is destroying the South Atlantic League! For the third straight week, the PDP drops an episode with the Colorado Rockies above the .500 mark. Then the baseball gods remembered Rockies fans aren't allowed to have happiness and struck down Miguel Castro with shoulder inflammation while also giving the Reds a series win over the Rox. Fun! Anthony and Tyler talk Colorado's surprisingly good work on the mound lately, the renaissance of Chad Bettis, what Castro's injury could mean for the bullpen, Gray's return, and much more on the 71st edition of the PDP. Plus, Episode 71 is named in honor of Chin-hui Tsao, former top prospect in the Rockies system. Tsao is somehow back in affiliated baseball these days, and we take you on a long and winding journey along his bizarre last several years in and out of the game. Stick around for this one. Trevor Story is the talk of the baseball world. Colorado's next shortstop star has blasted his way into the record books, and his team is 2-1 leaving Arizona after the first series of the 2016 season. Is it all sustainable? Well...I mean, no, but CAN'T YOU LET US ENJOY THIS FOR A MINUTE?! GOSH. Really though, the Rockies have shown some encouraging signs through the season's first three games, as they do every April. Trevor Story is foremost among them, but Miguel Castro is another. Carlos Gonzalez continues to be one of the game's best players inning after inning. And even though Nolan Arenado has had approximately 674 hits taken away from him via the shift, he's ripping the ball to start 2016. We'll look at Colorado's solid start, some concerning Weissian moves with the bullpen, and talk with our good pal Cameron Goeldner of Purple Row on what is sure to be the nicest episode of the PDP yet…

Corey Dickerson is gone, you guys. Traded Thursday for (would you believe it?) a Schlotzky's sandwich and a handful of Enron stock. SMDH. Oh wait no, left-handed reliever Jake McGee and minor league starting prospect German Marquez (who is not German, just FYI) are on the way to Colorado to complete the deal. The Rockies also sent minor leaguer Kevin Padlo, a fun and talented prsopect blocked in the system, to the Rays. What does it all mean? The initial reaction to this trade is basically that the sky has already fallen, Jeff Bridich is a knucklehead who throws darts at a spinning wheel of pizza to make his roster decisions, and life is a willful and yet empty pursuit of nothingness. We'll try to calm that down a bit with some numbers that suggest maybe the Rockies aren't quite as different a team minus C-Dick as you think. In as rambling and incoherent of an episode of the PDP as we can recall (just kidding, that's every episode), we've got a whole lot of topics on tap. First and foremost is our conversation with Rockies pitcher Tyler Matzek who is back with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes and having success with a clear mind on the mound. We talk with Tyler about his hiatus, his new mental approach and what it's like to be yelled at by the lady who lives in Walter White's house in Albuquerque. Plus Tyler and Anthony dive into how long it's been since the Rockies won back-to-back games at Atlanta and some other things possibly related to Rockies baseball.…
With the rousing success that was #PDPositivity on Thursday night, Anthony and Tyler are back in your ear drums with a softer take on all things Rockies baseball. Just kidding, it's the standard buffoonery. This week, we discuss stories that are non-stories, the release of Drew Stubbs, and who we envision in the Rockies' rotation come Opening Day 2016. Plus Matt Repplinger, Rocky Mountain SABR legend and yoga guru joins us to talk about what his yoga plans could be bringing to players in the Arizona Fall League and possibly a ballpark near you.…

Former Rockies pitcher Jason Hirsh, now of ROOT Sports, joins the 56th edition of the PDP to break down some of the major storylines in Rockies pitching. What's behind Eddie Butler's struggles? What's with Jon Gray's pitch limit? Just how good does Gray have the potential to be? Are the Rockies choosing a new path in their organizational pitching philosophy? We tackle that and more in an arduous interview that took us two days to complete. Plus Anthony and Tyler discuss other Rockies-related things, we're sure. That's usually what goes on this podcast. Intro and outro music this week from The Knew! Check them out at theknew.bandcamp.com.…

Finally. Finally. FINALLY. Jon Gray has arrived with your Colorado Rockies. We'll break down the rookie's Major League debut as well as what the rest of his season could look like for the Rockies. Also on tap this week, a discussion of Kyle Parker's first week back in the big leagues, a recap of how the three pitching prospects the Rockies acquired in the Troy Tulowitzki deal are performing, and a lengthy conversation with Chris Jackson of the Albuquerque Examiner about some of this season's highlights and biggest storylines with the Isotopes.…
The 54th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast is a short one because the Rockies did nothing at MLB's non-waiver trade deadline. Carlos Gonzalez, John Axford, Wilin Rosario, Charlie Blakmon, and a whole lot of others have one thing in common: they're still Colorado Rockies. We'll attempt to explain why the club stood pat at the deadline (especially in light of the Troy Tulowitzki trade on Monday night) and give you an idea of moves that could (COULD) still be on the way.…
WHAT JUST HAPPENED? Troy Tulowitzki is gone, and in return, the Rockies got a bunch of prospects you've probably never heard of (and Jose Reyes). We'll break down the deal, our thoughts on it, what you can expect from these prospects and more. Mike Ferrin of MLB Network Radio joins this special edition of the show to discuss the trade from a national standpoint including what the Rockies received, what it means for the Jeff Bridich administration, and what Jeff Passan's Tuesday for Yahoo! Sports says about the Rockies' front office. Just breathe. Everything's going to be fine. We promise.…

Plus we dive into an interesting topic inspired by a conversation Anthony had with Pete Rose: could a player/manager work in today's MLB? And if so, which Rockies player could fit the bill?…
Our hero returns from his sojourn to Cincinnati for the 2015 MLB All-Star Game, and he's here to tell you all about it. We'll discuss harrowing tales of Anthony taking creepshots of Raimel Tapia from his seat in the outfield during the Futures Game. We'll hear electrifying yarns about the weather that almost killed Anthony and the rest of the Queen City (that's actually not too far from the truth). And we'll discuss the 2015 Home Run Derby and All-Star Game which were both awesome. Plus this week we bring you a conversation with our good pal Bryan Kilpatrick of Purple Row previewing the back half of the 2015 season. What will the Rockies do at the trade deadline? Anything would be an upgrade on nothing which has been the organization's philosophy for the last 15 years…

Plus the Rockies make a push to get Troy Tulowitzki to the All-Star Game in Cincinnati. You enraged local media members with your willingness to vote on Twitter, so that makes us happy. Benjamin Hochman of The Denver Post joins the program to discuss the Rockies' owner and his latest attempts to be tactful or something with fans. Somehow that conversation turns into us discussing how to obtain the email addresses for famous and/or important people. Plus we dive into some All-Star Game talk, including our takes on ESPN's "coverage" of the Home Run Derby, and a brief (very brief) look ahead to the second half. It's a hoot. A real hoot, we tell ya.…

Alright, folks, we're going to lay it out for you. This is probably the best you're ever going to get with us. Jason Parks from Baseball Prospectus joins Tyler and Anthony for the Todd Helton Memorial Edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! We'll talk Jon Gray, Eddie Butler, Tyler Matzek, Raimel Tapia, David Dahl's dashing good looks, and much, much more. Seriously. Parks is so much more awesome than any of us will ever be. Plus, it's been a rather insane couple of weeks. We discuss Dick Monfort's candid interviews and saltiness with fans, Tulo trade rumors (he's not going to the Yankees), and a whole lot of other stuff that inspires us to yell and be angry.…
Anthony and Tyler start out all super positive and 'Merica happy on this Fourth of July edition of the show. Then, we start talking Rockies, and things generally devolve from there. Trade talks, uniform conversation, and a whole bunch of other nonsense follows. We discuss whether or not we need to start having the "how do they approach 2015" conversation. And then we have that conversation. So there's that. But hey, next week, Jason Parks from Baseball Prospectus joins the show! So get excited for that!…
Rosters have been announced for the 2014 MLB All-Star Futures Game, and just one Rockies prospect is among them. We discuss Rosell Herrera with Drew Creasman of PurpleRow.com. Plus, we'll banter about the start to the Short-Season Class A and Rookie campaigns as well as the Rockies' ability to somehow use a DOZEN starting pitchers before the season turns three months old. It's Episode 15 of the PDP! Come with us!…

Episode 14 of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast is jam-packed with awesomeness for your earholes. We're talking Dodgers, Rockies, prospects, and the minor leagues with Craig Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus. Then, Craig and Tyler commiserate on what it's like to be forced to know Anthony in real life. Things get heavy. Plus, why on earth isn't Corey Dickerson getting an every day shot? Why does Atlanta's David Carpenter get a fine while the Rockies' Nick Masset gets a suspension resulting from last week's ballyhoo and brouhaha? How does Kirk Gibson still have a job? Which mascot would you take a cross-country road trip with? You know. The pressing issues of our time. Also, we bid farewell to Mr. Padre.…

Purple Dinosaur Podcast keeps plugging along despite the Rockies' atrocious May and June collapse. Colorado is 3-14 over its last 17 games since the demise of Nolan Arenado's exploding finger. Then came the last week. Eddie Butler's out. Michael Cuddyer's out. Carlos Gonzalez is out. Prospect Daniel Winkler is headed for Tommy John. Fun, right? But on this week's show, WE PRESS ON, SO NEVER FEAR. Still some bright spots! Sorta! We'll hear from prospect Tyler Matzek ahead of his MLB debut Wednesday night against the Braves. Plus an interview with Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino, in which we ask him about the @OttavinoSlider twitter account, and much, much more!…
It's a good week to look to the future for observers of the Colorado Rockies. On Episode 12 of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we're talking a lot of Eddie Butler, with the Rockies' top pitching prospect set for his big league debut on Friday against the Dodgers. Butler dominated the Double-A level this year, in his third professional season, and will take the rotation spot of Franklin Morales, who is headed to the bullpen. Plus, we'll preview Thursday night's 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft with Purple Row's Bryan Kilpatrick and get a look at some of the possibilities on the Rockies' radar. Finally, we look ahead to Saturday's bloggers/writers event at Breckenridge Brewery with Matthew Repplinger of the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).…

We're tackling hard-hitting issues in Episode 11 of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, such as: what, exactly, is the second line behind "JOSIE'S ON A VACATION FAAAAR AAAWAY" in Charlie Blackmon's walk-up song? Plus, we chat with Nick Groke about the Rockies' next move to solve issues in the back end of the rotation, including Tyler Matzek's prospects for a call-up, possible trade rumblings, and more. It's a full-length episode this week! So, for that, we apologize for the hour and seven minutes you'll waste on it!…
We'll level with you straight out: this episode sucks. There, now that we've gotten that out of the way... Episode 10 is here! You guys clamored so much on Twitter, we figured we'd let you have it. Be forewarned, it took many hours in the PDP labs to make this sound even remotely listenable, thanks to atrocious Atlanta hotel internet. But baseball talk you want, and baseball talk you shall HAVE. This week, we go guest-free and talk lots of roster stuff. Mostly: pump the brakes with all this Eddie Butler/Jon Gray speculation. We tell you why. Plus, the joys of playing meaningful games in May (that's sad, isn't it?) and a promise for a better show next week. Join us, won't you?!…

We're taking a trip in the wayback machine on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Matthew Repplinger, president of the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) joins the show. We'll talk Denver baseball history, from the origins of the sport around the Mile High City to the Denver Post tournament glory days between the world wars and up to SABR's mission to mark home plate from Bears Stadium at Sports Authority Field at Mile High (which Tyler calls "Invesco Field at Mile High" in this episode because corporate naming rights are stupid.) Plus, we chat about the similarities between the Rockies and Royals with Mike Vamosi of KingsofKauffman.com, from the difficulties of graduating top prospects, frugal ownership, and more. We'll also discuss the Rockies' impending rotation decision on a struggling Franklin Morales, but that's depressing. Do with it what you will. ESPN Denver's Nate Kreckman joins the only all-Colorado Rockies podcast on the web to talk mostly about the Cubs or something. We cover what it's like to be a host who wants to talk baseball in a market with callers who likely only want to discuss ownership and the mascot. Also, Nate makes fun of Tyler a lot. Good deal. Plus an interview with Rockies starter Jordan Lyles about what it felt like to be traded and his adjustment to being a member of the Colorado organization, a breakdown of the unlikely success of the Rockies' jam-packed outfield, and more on this week's Purple Dinosaur Podcast.…
