He and his community have been embroiled in a long-standing legal and public relations battle against Enbridge, a Canadian energy company, to protect their ancestral lands. This struggle has been documented in "Bad River," a documentary film released in early 2024, which showcases Bates and his fellow activists within the band. Joe joins Jay to share his personal journey of activism, the profound influence of past generations of tribal and environmental activists on his own path, and the ongoing fight against Enbridge, which affects the future of water protection in America. Send a message an d let us know what you think of this episode! Oh my, Listeners. It's been a hot minute. Between some audio equipment failings, Ellie's Big Move and the school year hitting full speed we're, well, a bit behind to say the least. On this week's episode, Ellie discusses the creepy and mysterious Roop Kund and tries to offer some explanation for all those bones. Abby, meanwhile, talks about an old fashioned cure for rabies. On this episode, Ellie takes us to her Chemistry class to learn about isotopes and radioactive "cures" for illness throughout the years. Then, Abby talks about an...interesting experiment on a poor innocent baby by some mad man who (incorrectly) assumed that babies were amphibious and couldn't drown. Oh, you have follow up questions? Send a message an d let us know what you think of this episode! On this episode, Ellie discusses the pair of Tsavo Lions who ate "very few humans" (very few is in the eye of the beholder, we suppose!) as well as their post mortem fate. We're going to Maine, everybody! In preparation for the trip, Abby discusses the Wood Island Lighthouse's real life horrifying terrors and rumored paranormal events and secrets. She tops it off with a wholesome story about a dog we don't deserve. Then, Ellie drags (it's an aviation joke, do you get it?) the mood down by talking about some horrifying plane crashes (right before we get onto our flight to Maine, but go off, queen) caused by hubris and not following Aviation Rules, which we assume is a real thing and not something we just made up for the description.
