×OSCAR winning director Bong Joon Ho has finally returned with his next film - a book adaptation - Mickey 17 from Warner Bros. Pictures. This was easily one of my most anticipated films of the year because Parasite is easily one of the best Best Picture winners of the last decade and it made history by being the first International film to ever win Best Picture. Mickey 17 looked like a complete blast from the trailers but I also immediately knew this movie would be dead on arrival in cinemas because the marketing was just a little too gonzo for general audiences. Early buzz for the film was strong so I went in hyped. Is Mickey 17 on the level of Parasite? Find out in this review! Mickey 17: Written and Directed by: Bong Joon Ho Based on the novel "Mickey 7" by: Edward Ashton Produced by: Dooho Choi, Dede Gardner, Bong Joon Ho, Jeremy Kleiner Executive Producers: Pete Chiappetta, Peter Dodd, Jesse Ehrman, Marianne Jenkins, Andrew Lary, Brad Pitt, Anthony Tittanegro Music by: Jung Jae-il Cinematography by: Darius Khondji Edited by: Jinmo Yang Casting by: Francine Maisler Production Design by: Fiona Crombie Costume Design by: Catherine George Cast: Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Anamaria Vartolomei Synopsis: Unlikely hero Mickey Barnes finds himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.…
After six and a half years, Daredevil has finally returned to screens! That's right, Daredevil: Born Again has finally premiered on Disney+! It has been a long and tumultuous road getting to the moment of finally getting this show. From the highly publicized creative overhaul to the incredibly naive & silly comments made by the show runner just a few weeks back, this show hasn't exactly had an easy road getting to our screens. For those of you who are unaware, the Netflix Daredevil series might be my single favorite show of all-time; it's CERTAINLY my favorite comic book show ever and that will likely never be topped. Daredevil himself has always been one of my top three favorite Marvel Comics characters and Charlie Cox's iteration of the character is a better version than I'd ever imagined we could get onscreen. It just feels right for this show to continue, but Marvel Studios & Disney+'s track record hasn't been great, especially of late. Are the first 2 episodes of Daredevil: Born Again AS GOOD as the original show? Find out in this SPOILER review!…
Hello, everybody! Welcome back to MOVIE Morning where, today, we'll be discussing the 2025 Best Picture nominees! More specifically, I'll be ranking them based off my preferences, NOT by how likely they are/were to win Best Picture at the OSCARS this year. This is always a really interesting ranking because these films are supposed to be the best of the year, but they rarely represent that for me personally. At the same time, there are very few Best Picture nominees that I actually dislike. So, how do I rank this year's Best Picture nominees? Find out in this episode! Make sure to let me know which one is your favorite on the Spotify Polls!…
The time is almost here. The 97th Academy Awards are days away so, as always, it’s time to give you my official winner predictions for the categories, all of them in fact. I believe I’ve missed the last couple of years but this year, I’ve definitely seen more of these films than ever so it’s going to be an interesting episode. I’m not only going to be providing my predictions, but also who I think SHOULD win in each category, which is, unfortunately, more often than not completely different from who I think WILL win. Who’s getting Best Picture this year? Will Sean Baker finally get some OSCARS love or is Conclave sweeping in late? Find out my thoughts on everything OSCARS-related in this predictions episode. Enjoy!…
So, the first season of the latest Spider-Man animated series - Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - has now wrapped up on Disney+. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed the first 2 episodes and have been eagerly awaiting each set of episodes every week. I've also been really excited to delve deep into the show and discuss the entire first season, in full spoiler detail. Continue on if you've seen the show and want to hear a lifelong Spider-Man fan give you his very surprised thoughts on YFNSM - season 1!…
The Gorge - the latest film from Doctor Strange and Sinister director Scott Derrickson - has landed on Apple TV+. Welcome back to MOVIE Morning for another review and this time, we'll be talking about a streaming movie; I feel like it's been a while. I think Scott Derrickson is a very talented director: I'm, of course, a huge fan of Doctor Strange and Sinister, but also of the fantastic The Black Phone and the very underrated The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The Gorge, though, hasn't looked great from the previews and I really can't bring myself to get excited for streaming movies nowadays, unless they're titled Knives Out and directed by one of the all-time greatest filmmakers. Is The Gorge a solid thriller for Valentine's Day weekend, or is this one a pass like most streaming films? Find out in this review! The Gorge: Directed by: Scott Derrickson Written by: Zach Dean Produced by: C. Robert Cargill, Sherryl Clark, Zach Dean, Scott Derrickson, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Gregory Goodman, Don Granger, Adam Kolbrenner Executive Producers: Korey Budd, Marc Evans, Miles Teller Music by: Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross Cinematography by: Dan Lausten Editing by: Frédéric Thoraval Casting by: Sophie Holland, Mindy Marin Production Design by: Rick Heinrichs Costume Design by: Ellen Mirojnick Cast: Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sigourney Weaver Synopsis: Two highly trained operatives grow close from a distance after being sent to guard opposite sides of a mysterious gorge. When an evil below emerges, they must work together to survive what lies within.…
The first MCU movie of the year - Captain America: Brave New World - is now out in theaters. Honestly, I've been shockingly not excited for this movie. As much as I love Sam Wilson and I did enjoy Falcon and Winter Soldier more than most people, the behind the scenes drama on this movie and the creative team announced just kept killing my excitement as we got closer to release. I've liked the tone of the trailers but all we heard from behind the curtains weren't spelling good news for this movie at all. Of course though, I went in really wanting this movie to be good; the only reason this podcast even came to be in the first place is because of my love for the MCU and Steve Rogers has always been my favorite character in the franchise. The movie has now released worldwide. Does Captain America: Brave New World continue a winning streak for Marvel after Deadpool & Wolverine... or are we going to have to wait for Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four (two MCU movies I AM excited about) to get the good stuff? Find out in this NON-SPOILER review! Captain America: Brave New World: Directed by: Julius Onah Screenplay by: Rob Edwards & Malcolm Spellman & Dalan Musson and Julius Onah & Peter Glanz Story by: Rob Edwards and Malcolm Spellman & Dalan Musson Based on the character Captain America created by: Jack Kirby and Joe Simon Produced by: Kevin Feige and Nate Moore Executive Producers: Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth Music by: Laura Karpman Cinematography by: Kramer Morgenthau Editing by: Madeleine Gavin, Matthew Schmidt Casting by: Sarah Finn Production Design by: Ramsey Avery Costume Design by: Alexis Forte, Gersha Phillips Cast: Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson and Harrison Ford Synopsis: After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.…
Well, here we are. The final five episodes of Cobra Kai have finally arrived. Needless to say - if you've seen my reviews - I have been endlessly frustrated with Cobra Kai - Season 6 so far. In every way, the last ten episodes have been a bridge too far for me, even for a show as silly as Cobra Kai. More importantly, most of the show's plot lines (if not, all) were wrapped up by the end of season 5. All that's left is a bunch of dumb karate and stupid teenage melodrama. All that being said, I've still been hopeful for the final few episodes of the show because of how much I enjoyed so much of this show and how much they've made me love these characters. And of course, seeing the wrap up of a 40-year arc between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso is going to be emotional. Did the final few episodes deliver and is it a worthy end to an unforgettable chapter in the Karate Kid saga? Well, let's discuss it in full detail!…
Super Bowl weekend has now come and gone, and for all of us non-sports watchers, it's TYPICALLY a weekend of an abundance of trailer/teaser drops for movies. Anyone who was online yesterday very quickly learned that it was going to be a largely quiet year on the trailer front.Don't even get me started on the whole Superman Puppy Bowl debacle. But, the one new major trailer we did get was the new trailer for Marvel Studios' upcoming May release: Thunderbolts*. this is now the film's third trailer but I actually hadn't covered either of the previous trailers, for whatever reason.Because of this (and how much this trailer blew me away), I decided I'd give you my (hopefully) quick reaction to this Big Game Trailer. Enjoy!…
I'm over a month late... but it's finally time to count down my top 10 favorite films of 2024, with quite a few honorable mentions. This is by far the most new release films I've ever watched in one year, and it's largely due to me attending college in the U.K. and having way more access to many more films, particularly awards films. I spent an extra month trying to make my coverage of 2024 films more robust and watching some of the other 2024 movies that people are really excited about. Yet, I've still missed quite a few big ones but I felt it was time to finally throw in the towel and do this list. So, continue on to the episode to find out MY top 10 favorite movies of 2024!…
OSCAR-winning actor Ke Huy Quan, originally of Temple of Doom and Goonies fame, has made an epic Hollywood comeback over the last few years. Now, he’s leading his very own movies. Love Hurts is the latest production under 87 North, the same people behind the original John Wick, Violent Night and Nobody. It’s also being directed by a stuntman and Quan himself, during his near 4-decade absence from the silver screen, worked sometimes as a stuntman. I’m just so happy for him and most of my excitement for this one comes from seeing him be put fully into the spotlight. Is Love Hurts a must-see action film in theater? Find out in this review! Love Hurts: Directed by: JoJo Eusebio Written by: Matthew Murray & Josh Stoddard and Luke Passmore Produced by: Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, Guy Danella Executive Producer: Ben Ormand Music by: Dominic Lewis Cinematography by: Bridger Nielson Production Design by: Craig Sandells Costume Design by: Patricia J. Henderson Cast: Ke Huy Quan, Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, Sean Astin, Mustafa Shakir, Lio Tipton, Rhys Darby, Marshawn Lynch, André Eriksen Synopsis: A realtor is pulled back into the life he left behind after his former partner-in-crime resurfaces with an ominous message. With his crime-lord brother also on his trail, he must confront his past and the history he never fully buried.…
The dinosaurs are back! The first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth - the seventh installment of the Jurassic franchise - has finally hit theaters .This movie had a FAST road to production, with Jurassic World Dominion only coming out three years ago and this movie only being announced about 18 months ago. For context, the time gap between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion was FOUR years. The first Jurassic Park is a top 15 movie of all-time for me... but this franchise has basically now disappointed me five straight times. I don't think Lost World is horrible and I have some fun with the first Jurassic World but the pairing of David Koepp and Gareth Edwards has always given me some hope for this entry. I've liked all of Edwards' movies but haven't quite loved ay of them, but he's certainly the kind of director who can inject some worthy visuals back into this franchise and bring the thrills. The question has been: are the characters and story going to live up to the visuals though? Those areas have been my issue with all of his films so far, but with Koepp on board, I've had some hope. Also, because this movie shot large chunks in Thailand, I'm immediately going to be pumped to see it. Does the trailer give the impression that this is going to be the best movie in the franchise since the original? Find out in this initial reaction!…
It's finally time! The first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps (fittingly releasing on F ebruary 4) has, at long last, arrived online. This has been one of my most anticipated films for my whole life. I love these character so much and they have NEVER been done justice on the big screen. The fact that I live in a world where people think characters like the F4 and Superman are boring is insane to me... but all that changes come July. Did this first trailer for Fantastic Four get me as excited as that recent Superman trailer or do I not like the direction they're taking to introduce Marvel's First Family to the MCU? Find out in this initial reaction!…
Companion - a horror film "from the producers of The Notebook and Barbarian" (one of the greatest taglines I've ever heard) - has released in theaters worldwide. This was a movie I had very little interest in until seeing that very mysterious first trailer and seeing the reviews that have been coming out from critics over the past 2 months, which have been GLOWING. I had the chance to see the film just recently but the question is: will this movie start a glorious revival of the all too dead horror-comedy? Is it as amazing and as shocking as Barbarian? Find out in this review! Companion: Written and Directed by: Drew Hancock Produced by: Zach Cregger, Roy Lee, J.D. Lifshitz, Josh Mack, Raphael Margules Executive Producers: Jamie Buckner, Andrew Childs, Adam Ridley, Ryan Ridley, Tracy Rosenblum, Paulina Sussman Music by: Hrishikesh Hirway Cinematography by: Eli Born Editing by: Brett W. Bachman, Josh Ethier Casting by: Nancy Nayor Production Design by: Scott Kuzio Costume Design by: Vanessa Porter Cast: Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, Rupert Friend Synopsis: A billionaire’s death sets off a chain of events for Iris and her friends during a weekend trip to his lakeside estate.…
Hey everyone, the first 2 episodes of Disney+'s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man have dropped. This show has a bizarro release schedule and will only be on for the next 3 weeks, despite having 10 episodes. Episodes 3-5 and episodes 6-8 will be grouped together for the next 2 weeks respectively, and then the final 2 episodes will premiere on February 19. This is a show that I was hyped(!) about when they first announced it as a prequel show to Tom Holland's MCU iteration of the character. However, that announcement was over four years ago and since then, this show has clearly undergone a slew of changes. The show that was instead announced later was a What If...? style-show of Norman Osborn (voiced by the great Colman Domingo) mentoring Peter instead of Tony Stark. Since then, my excitement has been fading for this show and that trailer did NOT help. All that being said, the reactions to the WHOLE season definitely sparked my curiosity. How were the first 2 episodes? Find out in this NON-SPOILER review!…
