We had the privilege of sitting down with Mars Wright (@mars.wright) while he graciously shared his journey. From spending his early youth in the LA area to moving to a smaller town and the subsequent bullying he faced. We cover a lot of serious topics with Mars, some of which are disordered eating, bullying, transitioning while in a relationship, top surgery recovery, policing and requirements within the trans* community and so much more. While we talk about A LOT of serious stuff there is a constant theme of perseverance and finding self love and community. Comments? Questions? Whatever? Tweet us at @Trans_Wisdom. Join us this week for our first Nash and C in person episode! We sat down, together, in the flesh and discussed what is commonly referred to as the 'Real Life Test or 'Real Life Experience'. While neither of us have first hand experience with this 'test'- it was the only option offered to Nash when he wanted to begin his transition in New Jersey! That and other reasons ultimately lead him to move to Seattle. We discuss what the real life test actually entails and our beliefs of the dangers it presents. We go on a bit of a tangent on the medical red tape faced by trans* folx, but it's all related- we promise. And may even lead to further episodes, stick around and find out. Comments? Questions? Don't sleep on this episode. Nash sits down with the absolutely hilarious Jen Winslow, a Los Angeles trans-plant from Indiana. Jen is a comedian, actress, writer and also just happens to be trans*. They discuss how she got her start in comedy and how her transition has played and not played a role in that arena. This episode covers a lot of serious topics, they talk about her early life, transition and 20+ year marriage, and how transitioning impacted that relationship. They also talk about Jen's own nonbinary child and how navigating that coming out has gone. While this episode is serious, Jen has such a way of incorporating comedy you're sure to laugh (and maybe cry) along the way. Comments? Questions? Whatever? Tweet us at @Trans_Wisdom. As we return to new episodes this week, we're diving into the interesting and ever evolving topic of PEEING! Nash examines his peeing habits and challenges pre transition, during transition and post phalloplasty. Nash's experience peeing post phalloplasty proved to be a bigger adjustment than he imagined, so he reflects on this and also shares the ways he utilized his creativity to document and track changes, including the information he used to establish stricture patterns post op. This week Nash sits down with Lee Te and Rev. Keith Mozingo from Founders Metropolitan Church-or what some people call ’the gay church’. Lee opens up about her catholic upbringing in the Philippines and how some of those experiences began to warp her relationship with religion, spirit and ultimately herself. She also shares her struggles with finding purpose and self love and how re-connecting with faith ultimately aided her in this journey. Rev. Mozingo talks about how his church is vastly different than what most would expect. Comments? Questions? Whatever? Tweet us at @Trans_Wisdom. You can also find us on Instagram @transitionalwisdom. We had the immense privilege of sitting down with the wonderful Sarah Parlow who opened up and shared her journey as a trans women transitioning over the past 24 YEARS. Sarah shares how she lived as a gender nonconforming youth while growing up in an extremely conservative-and homogenous- area of Pennsylvania as well as the experience of medically transitioning in the late 90’s. She speaks brilliantly on the topic of shame both surrounding trans* people, and those who date us- and ways that we can combat these false stigmas. She also discusses disclosure and how to judge when is the right time- it’s tricky and every situation and person is different. The knowledge and insight we can gain from our elders is invaluable, listen to them, learn from them, thank them. Comments? Questions? Whatever? Tweet us at @Trans_Wisdom.
