We had conversations with Christopher Jackson and Jean-Sébastien Caux, two researchers who have started open access publishing platforms. They both told us that academics should be more in charge of the publishing system than they currently are, because publishing is too important for academia to be left at the discretion of the commercial players. Christopher Jackson is a professor of Basin Analysis at Imperial College in London. He has been one of the initiators of EarthArxiv (built on the Open Science Framework. Jean-Sébastien Caux is professor of theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Amsterdam and a recipient of ERC-advanced grant.
