Simon McQuoid will return as director of the 'Mortal Kombat' sequel.
The Australian director made his debut behind the camera for the 2021 film and insiders are now claiming the filmmaker will return for the continuation of the project.
Based on the popular video game series of the same name, 'Mortal Kombat' is a reboot of the films following the release of two 'Mortal Combat' flicks in the 1990s. Last year's film was a box-office hit and one of the most popular flicks on the streaming service HBO Max. Studio execs were quick to develop a sequel to the project, with one of their first acts being McQuoid again to bring on board as a director. Jeremy Slater will write the screenplay for the sequel. The first 'Mortal Kombat' video game appeared in 1992 and spawned a hugely successful series, with the latest title 'Mortal Kombat 11' coming to gaming consoles in 2019.
