In this episode, I welcome Jessica Patterson, yoga teacher and therapist, writer and educator and studio owner and sage as she shares a little bit of her wisdom around all things yoga. Jessica shares how she came to yoga as well as some significant stops along the way in her journey. She talks about the deeper aspects of a personal yoga practice, the ways in which her practice has evolved over the last 20 years, and the one thing that defines it. Jessica also shares her definition of yoga, her thoughts on the use of the word pose and posture to describe the physical portion of yoga, as well as the term ‘advanced practice’. We also discuss how our culture’s preoccupation with the body has impacted yoga in the western world and how we approach our bodies as a site of either conquest or liberation and where the ancient texts tell us we should focus our energy.
